Instruction on how to perform music at a live show
I was introduced to the arts at a very early age. My mother gave me my father's harmonica around the age of four-years old. At that same age, I began drawing pictures by crayon, and then switched to ink pen. Drawing was my art until by the age of twelve I became interested in percussion from watching classmates practice their sticking technique on the cafeteria tables during their lunch period. The next year I enrolled into beginning band and quickly increased my talents to catch-up with my classmates by the next year.
I furthered my studies in music at Emporia State University in Emporia, KS. I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1998, and a Master of Music degree in 2001. While in college, I performed with the Kansas Intercollegiate Jazz Ensemble and a Latin-rock band that ...
You wrote a great song, you play it to yourself for two hours after school or work every day, and finally bring your guitar or keyboard to an open mic night at the local coffee house. You freeze up, your voice cracks, your hands shake, and... you mess up. Familiar? I've been there too, and it doesn't happen to me anymore. There are ways around it, let's work on it!
On a more advanced level, we would be working on subtleties of body movement, the importance of gesture in music, singing into a microphone, how to plan or change your performance based on the audience and the venue, how to get your band or duo to function as a unit, or simple things like why your guitar amplifier doesn't sound the same in your bedroom as it does in a dingy downtown club.
Hi everyone! I'm a hard-working musician with a background in live performance, songwriting, composition, and home recording. I want to help you perform the music you love, whether you're playing to your family, your webcam, or a 15,000 seat arena. I have been teaching private music lessons since 2007.
I am a graduate of UCSD, where I completed my bachelor's degree in music theory and composition. I have taken years of private lessons, played bass, guitar, and mandolin in local and touring bands, and released three albums of original music. I want to make your goals accessible.
*** Lesson Details ***

Technique and poise, performance skills, coping with anxiety, effortless execution. During our lessons you can expect to work on:
1. Performance Routines
2. Practice Hygiene and Preparation
3. Getting into "Flow" State
4. Overcoming "Stage Fright"
For many musicians, performance is the most stressful aspect of music. Our lessons will be in the context of preparing for performances - preparing for one, what to expect, dealing with mistakes, and other things not typically covered in traditional lesson formats.
*WHY TAKE LESSONS*
Study after study shows that strong music exposure at young ages leads to academic success in all subjects. But the benefits propagate throughout your life - confidence, positive self-esteem, and the knowledge that working hard yields fruit. My job as your teacher is to help you or your young child along this path. It's not a stretch to see that music lessons, where you achieve success by diligent practice, teach patience and discipline.
*WHO I AM*
I'm a recent graduate of the Applied Music Program at San Diego Mesa College and a current senior at San Diego State University majoring in Music Performance. I've been teaching since 2011, and have had a blast teaching students as young as 5 and as "mature" as 65 (their words, not mine!). I ...
As the creator and producer of San Diego IndieFest and Say It Records, I have a unique understanding of the industry, and love to share that with my students.
It's paramount to me that each student's lesson be customized to her / his specific goals and needs. Whether those are for personal enrichment or for professional aspirations, your lesson will be personalized according to what's important to you.
I LOVE to teach, and appreciate my wee ones just as much as my elders...those who consider themselves "tone deaf" as much as my advanced students. As far as Special Needs go - I feel we *ALL* have special needs....every child and every adult! ;)
Hello Students / Parents!
I specialize in providing a fun, inspiring and safe space for each student to reach their goals ‚¬Ä¬ď whether that be for the novice singer whose been wrongfully told they ‚¬Ä¬úshouldn't sing,‚¬Ä¬Ě the more experienced singer looking to branch out into doing more with their music or doing it professionally, or the budding songwriter, actor or speaker looking to develop the talent and drive they feel within them.
I always remember the encouragement, patience and inspiration I received from my best teachers, and strive to provide exactly that to my own students. I sing and teach most vocal styles, with the exception of opera, and utilize our studio to create a supportive, empowering experience singing, writing and recording. I ...
The elements of a musical performance are as vast as your imagination will allow. From the composer's first ideas to the first time a listener experiences a composition, there is an element of performance to be considered. With Music Performance coaching you will learn the elements required to create the most fulfilling performance possible, and learn techniques to reproduce these elements consistently in your performance.
I have been performing as a musician for two decades and acting since I was a small boy. I started my musical education as a woodwind player and settled in to the wonderful world of singing over time. Music has opened me up to so many opportunities like touring the world, performing in marvelous concert halls, and working with some of today's most revered artists, as well as giving me the opportunity to expand my acting craft through various plays, musicals, television, and film.
Performing has been my salvation. It has been a best friend and constant source of joy, and I share this gift with others so that it might offer them the same. In this 10th year of teaching, I have new experiences to draw from and share with my students. Having spent my last 6 years performing with ...
