It is a pleasure to meet you! You probably came here with both a little excitement and a little concern. Finding the right person for you can be intimidating. A short introduction follows so that you know a little about me and my philosophy; I have been teaching music, performing music and enjoying music since I was a tiny three-year old. My first piano lessons were at age seven, and I just reconnected with my first teacher again on Facebook, what a lovely world this is.

Music has blessed my life in countless ways and given me opportunities I'd never dreamed of. Singing in Carnegie Hall, Performing across Europe and teaching the best students for over 25 years.

I believe strongly that those who spend their time and resources for musical education are some of the brightest and most intelligent people around. Each of my students have their own individual goals and reasons for taking music lessons. I believe that my role is to be a support and tool for them to accomplish the goals they have set for themselves, working with music that delights and educates.

The best teacher offers information, example, practice and performance opportunities and then gets out of the way of the student's voice so that they can be free to create their own style.

In our lessons, we work with a predictable schedule of balance. We have weekly exercises to make strong fingers and or voices, and technique and theory practice to hone skills that will improve our performances, whether they are for others or for our own benefit. Each student of piano learns how to create and write their own music in time, gets to choose their own pieces to work on, and has a say in their classical and performance goals.

We have a program of advancement, so you and your loved ones can visually see your progress and measure your skills.

What you learn, has everything to do with your commitment. Practice doesn't make perfect, Practice makes permanent. Only perfect practice makes perfect.

Learning the piano ought to be FUN. I believe in playing the piano, not 'practicing' it. Enjoy what you do, and you'll do it longer and with celebration instead of duty.

About Me

I have been teaching voice, guitar and piano to students of all ages and levels for over 5 years now. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Berklee College of Music with a BA in Songwriting and Vocal Studies. I teach mostly contemporary musical styles such as Pop/Rock/Country/R&B, but I have also trained and coached many students interested in pursuing musical theater and classical styles as well. I have performed live in countless venues in many cities both as a solo artist, and with a band as a side-woman. I like to emphasize performance skills as well as the basic techniques. I also have a lot of experience in the recording studio, and I relate that to any student interested in recording. As a songwriter, I have co-written with a few of my students and coached them on song structure, melody, etc. I also incorporate as much basic music theory as I can with my students and their instruments, in order that they may understand the language of music better. Overall, I try to cater to the individual needs of each and every one of my students -- and have fun!!

*** Lesson Details ***
I generally tend to be laid back when it comes to my teaching style. After all, music is fun, and I want my students to have fun learning. However, that being said, I do expect my students to practice every day. Ideally I would love for everyone to create a timed half-hour practice session, but I realize that sometimes this isn't possible. So I try to emphasize that practicing a little, even for five minutes every day, is better than no practice at all. For voice studies, I devise my own curriculum according to what level and style the student wishes to learn. Everything is very technique-oriented, meaning that we will spend half of the lesson on vocal technique, and half of the lesson on applying that technique to performance and songs. I wholly encourage my students to choose their own songs; that way, I know that they like them. However, I have quite a catalogue of songs I can choose should the student have trouble deciding.

For guitar and piano lessons, the books and methods vary depending on age and level. For beginners in guitar I like to use the Hal Leonard Beginner Guitar Series, for both children and adults (there is a separate set for both). For piano I am partial to the Alfred catalogue, especially for children. I highly recommend for beginner piano students that they purchase the whole set of books together: Lessons, Technique, Performance and Theory. These books are designed to work together and give the student a better understanding of playing, reading and musical language skills. As with voice, however, I encourage students to bring me material of their choice for piano and/or guitar. Workbooks can be tedious sometimes, and since I want my students to have fun and remain interested, I want to teach them what they desire to learn as much as possible.

I provide all paperwork and practice material. Sometimes I will bring a portable keyboard for vocal lessons if one is not available. About Me

I've played flute since the day I fell in love with it. When I was a little girl I saw the flute for the first time and wanted to play it ever since. I had a rough start in learning how to play the flute but over the past 13 years I've developed enough skill to be an advanced musician.

When I first started I had private tutors to teach me how to play. Then I played in elementary, middle, and high school concert band. At Sacramento State, I've performed with the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Marching Band, Concert Band, and Symphony Orchestra.

I'm currently an undergraduate student at Sacramento State majoring in Music Education & Performance in flute. This is my fourth year and I've already learned much about many instruments other than the flute. I've learned to play piano, trumpet, violin, cello, and most of the other instrument families. The cello was especially fun to learn because I love the deep rich sound it creates.

As a teacher, I've had two years of experience with people of different ages but I like teaching younger children the best. I believe in giving children the chance to enjoy and love music to the fullest while still learning the proper way to play beautifully. Every student is different so I patiently work at everyone's various paces. And if some students have more difficulty with the instrument than other students, then I'll go as slowly as they need in order for them to understand the first step before moving on to the next. My hope is that every person can experience music to the fullest.

If you have never held an instrument before then I'll go over all the basics before even playing the instrument. The instrument should be handled carefully and with proper care to make sure it stays in good shape.

Once we got all these basics down, we'll play music! Starting with tonal exercises, scales, short pieces, and maybe even fun pop music that the student likes. It all depends on the students' preference and progress.

About Me

Hello everyone! My name is Kevin and I am a pianist, vocalist, and instrument connoisseur. I have been playing the piano since I was 10 and taught myself how to play by ear. Growing up in a church environment I first taught myself gospel and later jazz. I personally love jazz, and this is one of my areas of strength. It wasn't until I was about 16 years old, while attending my first college, that I started exploring music in depth and as a potential career. As I started to delve deeper, I began to compose and have had some ensemble groups perform my pieces. I have arranged pieces for choirs and accompanied them as well. I also play guitar and bass guitar. As a well rounded musician I can teach you how to play the piano, how to learn music theory, how to compose and the beginning levels of guitar and voice.

I've been teaching and tutoring music students for about 5 years now. I've always loved and enjoyed music, and want to share that same joy through teaching. I started teaching by tutoring my peers in college and realized how rewarding it is. I then started to include students of all ages while continuing my education. I have a knack for music theory as well, this is typically a challenging area for most people, and I find it extremely important for a growing musician. I've been teaching choirs and bands in multiple school districts over the past 2 years, and I love working with children especially. I have conducted my community college choirs, along with their concert band, and orchestra. My true passion lies in conducting as I am a classical pianist with an ultimate goal as a conductor in my future.

I am currently attending college to obtain a bachelor's degree in music, with my emphasis on collaborative piano, conducting, and composition. I have been taught from coast to coast, while gathering much more in between. I previously attended Bard College at Simons Rock (Great Barrington, Massachusetts) at the Age of 15, then moved back to California at the age of 17. I currently attend Cosumnes River College and have plans to transfer this fall to a major four year university to complete my bachelors degree. Presently, I work for the Sacramento Unified School District as a Piano Teacher and Choir Accompanist.

In first meeting with a student I like to establish realistic short term goals, along with an overall goal in mind. Say nothing and teaching them everything. I like to promote a learning style of self-found knowledge. The best way to make something stick, is to discover it yourself. I like to see the "light bulb" effect in my students. Children seem to learn best when a lesson plan is catered to them, and when teaching is shown physically. Adolescence and adults tend to learn from a more technical stand point, with the emphasis on "how it works." My goal is to fuel a students thirst for the instrument and music as a whole. Depending on the student, and their goals, we can have a lesson ranging from really fun and easy going lesson to something a bit stricter that will keep up their progression and focus. I am a very patient person and have experience with ALL ages and ALL types of people.

I use a lot of different materials during lessons. Typically each of my students will have about 2 books at a time, one for the instrument and technique, and the other for theory. Though I love to cover many bases and provide the most knowledge to each of my students, it is also a priority to make sure that the knowledge is affordable. For that reason, I try to stick with more commonly used, easily accessible, and affordable books from publishers like Hal Leonard, Alfred, and G. Schirmer.

Within 2 or 3 months my students can look forward to having clear knowledge in the basics of their instrument(s) along with the theory behind the music. I will continue to keep an open line of communication with my students to ensure that I am meeting their goals, encourage questions, and ensuring their progress forward.

About Me

I grew up in a household of 9 where music was always center stage. We would sing as a family in different venues and were often called the VonTrapp family. I have enjoyed singing and performing from a young age. I began studying flute at age 8, after scoring highest in the harmony listening exam and began formal violin lessons at the age of 9. I studied all genres including, fiddle, classical, musical theater and 20th century. I have continued to study violin since then and have performed in many orchestras and small groups, such as Honor Orchestra, the Paradise Symphony, the Yuba College Orchestra, Yuba-Sutter Oratorio Society Orchestra and more. I have been concert master and first stand in many of these. I have also soloed in many and have been the first violinist in quartets for countless weddings and other events. I have also played in numerous pit orchestras for musicals.
I have been in choirs and soloing since I can remember. I have performed and soloed in choirs such as the Yuba-Sutter Oratorio Society, CSUS Chamber Choir, the CSUS Women's Choir and more. I have toured to Victoria, Montreal, Ottowa, Oregon and Washington. I have also been in opera productions such as The Magic Flute, Peleas and Melisande and Die Fledermaus (The Bat) with CSUS Opera. I am a recent recipient of the Saturday Club Scholarship, a prestigious award, and have won many competitions (some repeatedly) both vocally and with violin, such as the Tri-County Competition, Young Artist Competitions, and the California Soloist and Ensemble Competitions. Additionally, I have performed musical theater repertoire and have performed as lead in musicals such as Beauty and the Beast and Into the Woods. I have also soloed repeatedly with the Yuba College jazz band and at churches all around.
I have earned my Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from CSU Sacramento. I have my Associates Degrees in both Music and Early Childhood Education from Yuba College.Additionally, I have obtained my certificate of completion of training from Music Together, an organization which trains teachers to teach Basic Music Competence (both in tonality and rhythm), and am currently teaching this curriculum.
I have been teaching music privately for over ten years to all ages, genders and abilities. Additionally, I have taught ages 0-5 years in a preschool setting for 7 years and am extremely familiar with developmentally appropriate practices for both preschool school age, as I am a site supervisor at a child development center with a preschool and after school program. I have had many adult students as well and encourage adults to enrich their lives with music at any age! Additionally, I have experience teaching parent child classes and am familiar with how to teach to the particular needs of each family and student.

I have been teaching since 2002 and have loved every minute of it! I teach all ages. I tailor my style of teaching to each student's goals and to what works for you. If you want to learn Taylor Swift music, I won't be giving you arias. On the other hand, if you wish to study classically, I have repertoire appropriate for you. I teach fiddle, classical, orchestral, 20th century and more for violin students and have experience with jazz, classical, musical theater, pop, religious, spiritual, choral, 20th century and more vocally.
For violin students, I use the Suzuki method as a pushing off point, a tried and true method used in many countries across the world, though I have other repertoire including fiddle, orchestra, small ensemble, solo, concertos, Christmas, and more. For vocalist, I start with the book, Adventures in Singing. I also have warm ups and exercises to keep you vocally healthy. I will teach you anything you want to learn! I also teach how to read music, theory and harmony, depending on your interest and tailored to your current skill level.
I am encouraging and knowledgeable. I will meet you at your current level, be that beginner, intermediate, or advanced. My students can look forward to being encouraged and growing through their time with me. I don't have preset ideas about where you should be in 3-6 months, nor do I have a one size fits all teaching style. Instead, I will work with you individually so that you will become the best musician you can be, meet your goals, and increase your enjoyment and appreciation for music.
