Bass Guitar, Broadway Singing, Classical Guitar, English, Guitar, Music Performance, Music Recording, Music Theory, Opera Voice, Organ, Piano, Reading, Singing, Songwriting

About Me

I have been teaching voice, guitar and piano to students of all ages and levels for over 5 years now. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Berklee College of Music with a BA in Songwriting and Vocal Studies. I teach mostly contemporary musical styles such as Pop/Rock/Country/R&B, but I have also trained and coached many students interested in pursuing musical theater and classical styles as well. I have performed live in countless venues in many cities both as a solo artist, and with a band as a side-woman. I like to emphasize performance skills as well as the basic techniques. I also have a lot of experience in the recording studio, and I relate that to any student interested in recording. As a songwriter, I have co-written with a few of my students and coached them on song structure, melody, etc. I also incorporate as much basic music theory as I can with my students and their instruments, in order that they may understand the language of music better. Overall, I try to cater to the individual needs of each and every one of my students -- and have fun!!

*** Lesson Details ***
I generally tend to be laid back when it comes to my teaching style. After all, music is fun, and I want my students to have fun learning. However, that being said, I do expect my students to practice every day. Ideally I would love for everyone to create a timed half-hour practice session, but I realize that sometimes this isn't possible. So I try to emphasize that practicing a little, even for five minutes every day, is better than no practice at all. For voice studies, I devise my own curriculum according to what level and style the student wishes to learn. Everything is very technique-oriented, meaning that we will spend half of the lesson on vocal technique, and half of the lesson on applying that technique to performance and songs. I wholly encourage my students to choose their own songs; that way, I know that they like them. However, I have quite a catalogue of songs I can choose should the student have trouble deciding.

For guitar and piano lessons, the books and methods vary depending on age and level. For beginners in guitar I like to use the Hal Leonard Beginner Guitar Series, for both children and adults (there is a separate set for both). For piano I am partial to the Alfred catalogue, especially for children. I highly recommend for beginner piano students that they purchase the whole set of books together: Lessons, Technique, Performance and Theory. These books are designed to work together and give the student a better understanding of playing, reading and musical language skills. As with voice, however, I encourage students to bring me material of their choice for piano and/or guitar. Workbooks can be tedious sometimes, and since I want my students to have fun and remain interested, I want to teach them what they desire to learn as much as possible.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Upright piano, 2 acoustic and 1 electric guitar, keyboard with organ sounds, amps, microphones, music stands and books.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide all paperwork and practice material. Sometimes I will bring a portable keyboard for vocal lessons if one is not available. It is important for a student to have a guitar or bass to practice on if they are a guitar student (acoustic or electric), and it is helpful for a student to have a piano or a working keyboard for piano and voice lessons

*** Specialties ***
*Teachers marked as a Student Favorite have taught a minimum of 25 lessons and have received the highest feedback rating from students.I specialize in contemporary music styles, but I am very technique-oriented and I incorporate music theory in every style and instrument that I teach. My methods of teaching range from use of books from beginner to advanced styles, to my own personal lesson plans that I have accumulated over the years. I also specialize in one-on-one singer/songwriter clinics to help better writing styles, melody writing, chord structure, etc.

About Me

Ok well let the game begin :)...I'm not going to talk in third person like " Miss m. was born in blah blah and then she performed in blah blah..." :) So here it goes...Hi! You probably already know my name but I want to let you know of some fun facts about me before starting to talk about all those resume stuff!
!) every body calls me Maryam but there are 23 letters in my full name and YES that's crazy.
@) I love red.
#) I think mermaids are super-cool
$) I wish I had a pet dolphin!
%) I watched a lot of wrestling as a kid and the hardy boys are my favorites!
if you're still reading => YAY. now lets talk about my experience. I started music, theatre and art when I was very very young. I moved to different cities AND countries so I had the chance to be taught by very different perspectives and teachers that had nothing in common but music. All that time beside being humble to my teacher I could still take notes of what they did that I loved and what they did that I hated as a student. Then when I was in high school I realized I loved helping people to learn and I started teaching and using those " words of wisdom" I left for myself. I know what it feels like to be a student believe me. I still am a student in college. I understand your pains and gains and happiness and sadness and everything you go through in your journey. I'm very flexible with different genres. In fact I started as a classical musician then changed to pop then rock then metal then blues then jazz and finally I realized : OK I admit it. I love all of them and I try my best to teach you what you want to learn. Oh and you might also be interested to know that I can also speak fluent Farsi. So what do you say? Lets open the door of Narnia together. It'll be AWESOME!

*** Lesson Details ***
I want you to improve. I want you to put time and be great at what you do. I truly love all my students and I want your happiness. As of teaching goes, I'll make sure to meet all your needs but it's you who can make a difference. I don't believe in talent , I believe in hard work and practice. everybody is born with the same blank canvas it's what you draw on it over time that matters. If you let me know that you have other things than music or you're maybe busy to practice a lot, I'll give less things to practice  after every 3 month ( what I call a semester) you can choose songs to record in my home studio. I don't have a fancy studio but I have enough equipment to record and edit demo songs. I'd love my students to participant in talent shows and I'm always looking to put you out there in the real world of music.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Any thing a student and their parents might need.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can bring my guitar to accompany but the student needs to also provide their own instrument. I will also need the voice students to have a keyboard or a piano as a lot of voice technique exercises need the piano accompaniment.

*** Specialties ***
I'm professionally an electric guitarist.. Started with classic guitar and then changed genre to rock and metal and then started exploring jazz but I consider myself a rock solo guitarist with some spices of jazz and i still play classical. I'm also a pop/rock singer with flavors of jazz and I've been singing classic music as well.

As a private guitar instructor, my primary goal has always been the development of each students' musical creativity. Whether a student of mine hopes to become a songwriter, composer, or jazz guitarist or if they simply wish to learn guitar for their own enjoyment, I can guide them in the right direction. I firmly believe in the value of music theory, sight-reading, ear-training and music history. All of these aspects of music will be incorporated into each lesson. However, when I cover such material with students, I make sure that it directly relates to the style of music and/or material they are interested in learning.

*** Studio Equipment ***

*** Travel Equipment ***
I would expect the student to provide his or her own guitar, amplifier and cables. I would be willing to bring books, charts, sheet music and anything else that would be needed to teach each lesson.

*** Specialties ***
Although I teach guitar styles ranging from jazz, blues and rock to classical and flamenco, I am most proficient as a classical guitarist/teacher. The majority of my training as well as musical interest is in this style.

Kenneth K. Stockton, CA

Subjects Taught

Cello, Classical Guitar, Music Performance, Music Theory, Opera Voice, Piano, Singing, Upright Bass, Viola, Violin

About Me

My philosophy of teaching has many facets:
1.) The students physical health must be taken into consideration when playing an instrument.
2.) Only through hard work and practice can a student make lasting improvements.
3.) Repetition is the key to long-lasting learning.
4.) A teacher needs to be a cheerleader and a task-master at the same time.
5.) I use the Suzuki Method in as many ways as possible along with reading exercises for most ages.

*** Lesson Details ***
I do have high expectations of my students, but I am considerate about schedules and family conflicts.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Office/classroom, seating for parents, piano - it is his so reservations won't be an issue

*** Specialties ***
I am currently training with a violin/viola master teacher who specializes in teaching the Suzuki Method. I have been training with her since 2009. My method of teaching is applicable to every field in which I teach. I believe a musician produces the best tone with the most efficiency when their body is free of any unnecessary extrinsic muscle tensions. My students learn how to produce music in very healthy way. I don't listen for all my students to sound exactly the same, rather I listen for them to sound free of tensions.

Bass Guitar, Classical Guitar, Guitar, Music Performance, Music Recording, Music Theory, Piano, Songwriting, Ukulele

About Me

Hey there! Maybe you are just getting started playing and need some guidance. Maybe you have a firm grasp on things but feel like something is missing. No matter the case, you've come to the right place to expand your musical knowledge. Not to mention have a lot of fun doing it!

My name is Dylan M. Let me tell you a bit about myself. I have been playing music since I was 8 years old. I received 2 local music scholarships and a general academic scholarship. I am currently attending college for my music degree. I spent much of my time being a teachers aid for the music classes at the high school I attended. I love playing music and do it every chance I get. To me there is nothing more fun than learning a great new song and playing with other musicians.

I spent years studying music and putting the pieces together. I want to help you avoid the frustration of not knowing what to practice and how to practice. I can help you discover your talents by teaching in a straightforward and common sense approach. I encourage a relaxed but focused learning environment.

It is a great time to take lessons with me because I am currently taking music courses full time in college so I am immersed in the subject. Music has been my main passion.

*** Lesson Details ***
I teach all levels of guitar and beginning and intermediate piano/keyboard.

Having exercise/song/workbooks is extremely helpful for players who want to learn fast.

Of course, if you have books that are appropriate for you already we can work with those.

And of course, these are just guidelines, we will see what works best. Below are the books I prefer and use most regularly. We will talk before the first lesson and see what we want to do.

GUITAR: For beginning guitar students with no music experience ages 5 to 20 who want a book to help them along I recommend the books Hal Leonard's "Guitar for Kids" and "Guitar for Kids Songbook" by Bob Morris and Jeff Schroedl. I will have the books for you and you will reimburse me $25.00. Despite being titled "for kids" these books are terrific for anyone who needs to get comfortable playing chords: the foundation of guitar playing and music in general. With these books I can help you become a comfortable chord player quickly and we can move on from there.

Special Cases for guitar books: Those who aren't beginners and are comfortable with chords probably won't want to buy the "Guitar for Kids" books. In that case we will see what you specifically want to learn and most likely there will be a book I use that's better for you.

piano: For beginning piano students of any age with no music experience I require you have the books "Alfred's Basic Piano Library Lesson Book, Technic Book, and Theory Book." I will have the books for you at the first lesson. You will need to reimburse me $25.00.

For those 13 and up with some musical experience who have never played piano I recommend you get "Adult Piano Adventures" by Nancy and Randall Faber, which is $17.00.

Available instruments for hands on learning are guitar, bass, and keys. I will explore with you the ways to create original music or I can simply show you what it takes to play your favorite songs. I can keep you engaged by giving you important information from technique and theory books but then immediately show you how what you learn in the books can be applied.

Anyone can be a musician, we all have so much potential. Music is natural in all of us.

I find it very important to teach aspiring musicians a broad understanding of music. We need to understand why it works in order to effectively play and create music.

During the first lesson I will focus on seeing what level your playing is at and would like to get out of music lessons.
From there we will jump in to learning by focusing on material for your skill level and interest. I will help you with your specific needs while also going over what any musician needs to be successful. During lessons I will give you exercises to practice including reading charts/notes and playing. I will identify how you best learn and fit the lessons to you. I have a tried and true approach that will get you seeing improvement as long as you practice and are ready to learn.

It is extremely important that you practice regularly. That way you can see real progress. As you can see, I feel it is very important to structure lessons in order to have success. We will work in sequence and build your skill from the ground up. That said I love catering to individual students needs and want to make sure I teach them what they want to learn. If you have something particular you want to learn. Be sure to let me know.

*** Studio Equipment ***
At my studio I have a great keyboard, several guitars, a bass, 2 amplifiers, and some simple recording equipment, as well as relevant textbooks. I have everything needed for quality lessons. Be sure to have your own instrument.

*** Travel Equipment ***
For guitar lessons I will bring my guitar and any handouts for that lesson. If you are using one of the books I will use your copy to give you practice materials as well. I will bring my guitar tuner, but being a guitarist, it is important that you invest in a tuner, picks, and buy strings when you need them.

For piano lessons I will bring any handouts for that lesson. I will use your book that you purchased at the beginning of your lessons to give you practice materials.

*** Specialties ***
Pop Rock, Pop, Hard Rock, Groove Metal, Contemporary, Jazz, Classic Rock, Pop Punk, Thrash, Blues, Country, Classical

I love so many styles of music. I help students with any style they wish and I love to incorporate different styles together. Seemingly very different music styles such as classical vs more aggressive rock may seem like two different worlds but they really are closely related!
I show students how to know what notes to use over which chords and how chords relate to one another through the teaching of modes, and the diatonic chords within a scale.

With the determination to create this art and the right tools nothing is holding you back!

I teach fingerstyle, picking, alternate picking, economy picking, tapping, appropriate use of the whammy bar, palm muting, inversions, chord functions, progressions, scale degrees, harmonics, syncopation, modes, finger strength exercises, rhythm exercises, speed exercises, and more. And of course, I show you how it all relates and why it's important so you can utilize your new knowledge!
