About Me

Hey Students and Parents!

I've been performing and studying music since I was 8, and I can honestly say that music is my life. Music has changed my life in so many ways, and few things give me more joy than sharing that with others.

I've been teaching for six years and in that time have seen my students admitted to some of the country's best music schools. My specialty is keeping lessons exciting, fun, and soulful, never losing sight of the feelings that drew us to music in the first place.

Learning to play an instrument well is challenging, and sometimes frustrating. But having been through rigorous conservatory training myself, I know how to tackle most technical and musical challenges in a streamlined way so that my students can progress quickly and consistently.

I teach all styles and levels of guitar, beginner and intermediate drums, beginner piano, songwriting and composition, and computer music production. When I'm not teaching I'm either gigging with several bands (R&B, Rock, Hip Hop, and World Music), playing out as a solo classical guitarist, DJ'ing, at home creating electronic music, songwriting, composing pieces for classical ensembles, or producing local indie artists.

I have years of live and studio experience under my belt, and can confidently prepare dedicated students for real-world careers in music if that is their goal.

For those students who simply aspire to learn an instrument well and play for and with family and friends, we'll focus on learning and finishing songs to show off with!

Some of my teachers and mentors have been Jamie Haddad (Paul Simon, Herbie Hancock, Paul Winter,) Kevin Hanson (The Roots, Jay Z, Jill Scott,) Lukasz Kuropaczewski, Stephen Aron, and Tony Moore (Usher, Patti Labelle.)

Lessons with me will be fun and stimulating, and you can expect consistent progress.

We'll make sure YOUR musical goals are met.

We will use songs from a variety of styles to gain new skills and experience.

We'll focus on all aspects of being a musician, including ear training and listening, instrument technique, rhythm, improvisation and composition, reading, and performance.

The music we work on will be the music that you love, as there's no better way to progress than to love what you're working on and genuinely want to improve at it!

I'll also introduce you to new music that you've probably never heard, but could very well grow to love.

If appropriate we'll use tried and true method books to make sure all bases are covered.

If you're a student of music production, we'll work on getting to know your computer program of choice. Whether you're looking to produce a huge Dubstep banger, or mellow music for film, I'll make sure you are consistently FINISHING quality tracks that you can share with the world.

Whether you're a guitarist, pianist, drummer, or producer, You can expect to be finishing songs. You may end up performing for your uncle and your dog, at your school talent show, or on stage in front of a huge crowd. Wherever you may share your music with others, you'll be a confident and proud performer because through our lessons you'll have learned how to MASTER music.

About Me

I have been teaching music for 16 years. I grew up on the 2nd floor of my father's music store in Central PA and have been around music my whole life. I earned a bachelor’s degree in Music Performance from the University of the Arts where I studied jazz guitar with Pat Martino, Jimmy Bruno, Steve Giordano, and Tom Giacabetti. I was one of the original teachers during the formative years at the Paul Green School of Rock Music where I later went on to be the Music Director of the Philadelphia and Downingtown Schools. During that time, I helped many students prepare and get accepted to music schools, ran and developed music summer camps, and organized concerts where the students performed the music of Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, and many more of rock's finest band at every major venue in Philadelphia.

I have been active in the local music scene recording and playing sold-out shows at the Khyber, TLA, Trocadero, Johnny Brenda's and World Café Live with such acts as 722, Bebek, Franzschubert, Sensi Star, Clean Equations, The Black Lodge Ensemble, Dani Mari, Ashley Phillips, and The Smash Brothers. I have played jazz at the Kimmel Center, musical theater at the Walnut Street and Prince Music Theaters, reggae bass at the Jersey Shore, and rocked out at CBGB’s. I have toured throughout the east coast and as far as Shanghai, China. I bring all this range of experience to each lesson.

I am a very easy going and patient teacher. My objective is for a guitar or bass lesson to be both educational and fun. I do not adhere to a strict curriculum because I have found over the years that everyone learns differently. I cater my lessons to the individual goals and tastes of my students.

Whether it is a 7 year old successfully playing a D chord or teenager connecting the dots of music theory, the most satisfying experiences for me is when a student has that “ah hah” moment. I feel it is my job not only to channel creativity but also to help students develop discipline. A typical lesson will consist of learning new skills such as working on rhythm and developing a good ear but most importantly, we will do a large amount of playing.

My teaching studio is furnished with two practice amps, a small PA, and a music stand. I have several guitars both acoustic and electric, plus a bass, keyboards, and several percussion instruments around the house to play with. I really enjoy working with students to develop their own music and am equipped to record demos. I also have an extensive songbook and guitar tab library as a resource to learn songs from. I do have two cats, just to let you know, and my house very easy to get to via public transportation.

About Me

My name is Pete. I've been playing guitar for over 15 years. In 2011 I graduated from the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston with a degree in Professional Music. There, I spent several semesters studying with Tomo Fujita (former teacher of John Mayer and Eric Krasno). I've also studied with legendary guitarist Pat Metheny and Jack Pezanelli. Stevie Ray Vaughan, Wes Montgomery, and Jimi Hendrix are responsible for inspiring me to play guitar and I specialize in teaching blues and jazz guitar, bass, and piano. I firmly believe that every serious musician should study ear training and music theory and I incorporate these areas in my lessons as long as the student wants to study this way. I've performed with a bunch of great artists in the Boston and Philadelphia area.
In 2011, I successfully obtained my master's degree in Jazz Studies from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. The master's program was an intense submersion in music performance that shaped me into the musician that I am today. I was lucky to study with Don Glanden, Mike Kennedy, and Kevin Hanson.
I am also well versed in computer recording software and DAWs. I teach students how to use software programs such as Logic and Reason as well as notation software like Sibelius and Finale. With some basic training in these programs, I can teach a student how to effectively record and produce professional quality recordings so that a student can write, record, and produce their own music.

Because I've studied with some legendary teachers who have taught some legendary students (like John Mayer), I'm able to pass on to my students the same knowledge that these incredible teachers passed on to me. I guarantee that I will be unlike any guitar teacher that you've had before. Along with instrumental training, I offer extensive lessons in music theory and ear training. My family is full of educators and I've experienced the teacher-student relationship from a young age. I am fully committed to developing lesson plans based on the route that a student wants to take, whether it's just learning the basics and playing along to your favorite songs or engaging in serious study and preparing for college auditions. I am available to teach at any location within the Philadelphia area.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Living Room: guitars, amps, music stands, recording set up with mac, mics, couches and chairs, parents can sit in on lesson

*** Travel Equipment ***
If necessary, I would be able to temporarily provide students with an acoustic or electric guitar for lesson purposes. I would expect most students to have a guitar of their own, and preferably an amplifier if they choose to learn on electric. I can also provide copies of the books I teach out of but I will ask students to eventually buy their own copy.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in jazz and blues. At Berklee, I was able to take instrumental labs that spent an entire semester focusing on the playing style of certain guitarists. I've taken the Wes Montgomery lab, the Pat Martino lab, the Jimi Hendrix lab, the John Scofield lab, and the Stevie Ray Vaughan lab.

About Me

I am a husband and father of 3 girls [Elaine, Grace and Emma]. I studied Music Performance with a concentration in Classical Guitar at Eastern University, where I met my wife Allison who currently teaches Voice and Piano with Take Lessons. I just recently received my Honorable Discharge for 8 years in the US Army and work at The University of Pennsylvania in the School of Medicine. I am currently taking classes at the University of Pennsylvania to finish my degree in Music.

I'm very easy going and patient. I focus on technique and music reading skills rather than building repertoire. I would rather a student that is confident in their ability to play a few songs to a high standard than an unsure student that can play many to a lower standard.

As far as my own musical interests, I love classical guitar and the folk/singer songwriter genre. Artists I listen to regularly include The Swell Season(Glen Hansard), Gregory Alan Isakov, Iron and Wine, The Milk Carton Kids, Simon and Garfunkel, M.Ward, Mumford & Sons, Nick Drake, Elliot Smith, Ray LaMontagne, The Mountain Goats, Andrew Bird, Dawes, Neutral Milk Hotel, Woodpigeon. I'm just realizing that could go on for a long time... I stay up to speed on most contemporary artists for the sake of my students. I regularly teach songs by Gotye, Adele, Bruno Mars and other current pop artists.

My real passion is in Classical Guitar music. There are few things that give me more joy than playing classical guitar. I love any opportunity to share that with someone eager to learn.

*** Lesson Details ***
In my lessons I like to start by reviewing what has been learned in the previous lesson, making sure to address any concerns before teaching something new. To ensure the student is truly learning and maintaining what I teach during our lessons we will do some short musical exercises which apply to that weeks lesson, as well as some musical repertoire that reinforces the new principles taught in that lesson. I feel that correct repetitive practice of these exercises and music will ensure happiness with your progression as a musician. I do my best to learn the musical interests of my students and to personalize each lesson/assignment so that they remain engaged and excited.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have small studio space connected to my family room with a Piano and my guitars (and any other instruments my wife and I have collected over the years). Parents can sit in studio or relax in the family room during lessons. It's a nice quiet suburban area and I have off street parking just outside the door.

Warning: I have friendly cats! They will rub up against your leg and may even purr loudly! In the most extreme cases, they have even been known to fall asleep while snuggling in an unsuspecting parents lap.

*** Lesson Details ***
Mike's approach is to use the student's own musical tastes to develop an appreciation for the instrument. If you like rock, you learn by playing rock. If you like jazz, you learn by playing jazz. Mike's approach makes it painless to learn to read, train your ear and develop monster chops quickly.

2) Private teaching room w/ all instruments and seating for parents

*** Specialties ***
For the last few years I've had good results teaching theory as part of a greater performance focus. I've taught Hal Leonard and Suzuki Method in the past, but find this more enjoyable and rewarding for the students.

Brendan M. Philadelphia, PA

Bass Guitar, Music Recording, Music Theory, Ukulele

About Me

Brendan M. is a true utility player in the music industry. A trained recording engineer and studied musician, he is adept and comfortable behind the board, in the producer’s chair, as well as performing bass, piano, guitar, or ukulele on the other side of the glass.Equally at home at a rock venue, classical concert hall, or jazz club, Brendan’s enthusiasm and love and understanding of many genres of music keeps him in demand as a dude you would want to work with.Formerly touring as bassist with punk/funk band Counter Riot, whose 2011 album was produced by Scott Stallone, he currently plays bass and keyboards for Philadelphia act AlyCat and bass for Wonder & Fury, a band named after a Shepard Fairey painting. As a composer, he has scored music for several films over the last few years, appearing on FunnyOrDie and working with directors from Philadelphia to LA. His 2012 film, “Trouble’s A’Brewin’,” which he also produced for Naut Pictures, his production company, premiered at the 2012 Off-Centered Film Festival in Austin, TX. Brendan is currently working on a documentary about accordion legend Joe Soprani, finishing the score for a psychological drama for Naut Pictures, just wrapped on music for a reality show, and has been working on video and audio productions for Brazilian jazz duo, Minas, and jazz guitarist Steve Giordano. As an engineer, Brendan is constantly involved in the production of sounds, whether it’s working as the in-house producer/engineer for a 79 year-old Philadelphia accordion legend, producing Philly's most talented jazz musicians, or mixing audio for 20,000 people at PPL park for the Philadelphia Union at a MLS game, and all things in between.Brendan received formal training at Lebanon Valley College, where he double majored in Music Recording Technology and Music. He started teaching while still in college, and continues to teach privately and at Forge Recording Studios, where he is also on staff as an engineer/producer.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a firm advocate of teaching the student both what they want and what they need. Often, these things can be very different. For example, a student might want to learn how to play one specific song. We will certainly learn how to play that song, but I will give the student more than just the narrow skill set applied in that song. We will work on the technique needed to play the song, the theory behind the music, and more. These skills are all very important to becoming a well-rounded musician, rather than someone who moves their fingers.Working with me on the recording side is no different. We will dig into much more than just hitting the record button. Concepts and principles of audio are very important to learn, as well as technique and ear training. Anyone can hit the record button, so I focus on the big picture in developing the musical and technical side of the student.Of course, I am laid back, and we will have fun always! Lessons with me are a mixture of hard work and a good time. Otherwise, what's the point?
