About Me

I have been studying music in many forms for most of my life! I started taking piano lessons at the age of 8 and voice lessons at the age of 15. I attended Southeastern Louisiana University where I earned a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance in the studio of Scharmal Schrock. On the SLU stage I performed in several operas and musicals, including The Music Man (Marian), The Sound of Music (Maria), A Little Night Music (Charlotte) and Dido and Aeneas (Second Woman). With my classical training, I am able to adapt to many styles that interest me- including musical theatre, jazz and pop.

After graduation I moved to New York City where I spent over 6 years working with various acting/singing coaches and studying with acclaimed voice teacher Judy Hages. I performed 2 off broadway cabarets at The Duplex Cabaret Theatre. I was also featured in Pittsburgh's Flash Opera production of Dido and Aeneas (Second Woman/First Witch).

I have recently moved to the DFW area and look forward to more performance and teaching opportunities in this great community!

About Me

Hi! My name is Jennifer J. I just graduated with my Masters in Music from the University of Redlands. I received my Bachelor's Degree from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. Through my college career, I was able to perform in many musical productions. Some of these roles include: Yvonne in Miss Saigon (Louisiana Lyric Opera), Mother in Hansel and Gretel (University of Louisiana at Monroe), Erma in Anything Goes (University of Louisiana at Monroe), Euridice in Orfeo ed Euridice (University of Redlands), and Suor Angelica in Suor Angelica (University of Redlands). There are many performance coming up this year, also!

During my time in Undergrad, I had the opportunities to study abroad for two summers. I was accepted into University of Miami's Salzburg program (2009), and the following summer did Westminster Choir College's Florence Voice Seminar (2010). Throughout both of these experiences, I was able to work with world renowned teachers and coaches. These programs helped me grow as a teacher and a performer.

I am a member of NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing)

With the experience I have, I hope to start teaching you someday!

About Me

I believe you can sing! Whether you’re a beginner wanting to find your voice, or a more experienced singer looking to further refine your natural talent, I’ll be there with you every step along the way.

I began singing in choirs in the third grade. In middle school, I had a very enthusiastic and supportive sixth grade choir teacher who encouraged me to see where music would take me. By 2000, I had also taken up the violin with a private teacher. I took my first private voice lesson in 2004, and began to benefit immensely from the personal attention and support that lessons provide.

I later studied at Texas Tech University, where I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education. In my time at Tech, I was a member of the Symphony Orchestra, Women’s Chorus, University Choir, Madrigal Singers, Jazz Ensembles I/II, Lubbock Moonlight Musicals, and studied privately under several incredible faculty members. My favorite musical experience in college was singing with the University Choir at Carnegie Hall in May of 2010.

I continue to play violin and currently use my classical training to teach choir, voice, and mariachi violin at a public high school in the Dallas area. When I’m not teaching or performing, I enjoy practicing yoga, riding bikes, spending time with my fiancÚ, making jewelry, and learning Spanish.

*** Lesson Details ***
Unlike other instruments, the voice is not something you take out of a case and then put away when you’re finished playing it. It is unique to you, and has unlimited potential. Simply put, you don’t know if you can do it until you try. If you’re here, I know you’re ready to discover where your voice wants to take you!

In our lessons, we will begin by building a strong foundation of posture, breath support, tone production, and placement. Once those basic elements are set, there is no limit to what you can achieve! I want to build versatile and well-rounded singers, but I also want you to have the freedom to sing the music you love. You are encouraged to bring any solo or audition pieces you want to prepare, but we can also work on your favorites. We will work to find a balance that works best for your vocal development.

If you choose to study violin with me, it is essential that you have your own instrument to practice with at home. Most beginning violin students rent their instruments at first. In our lessons will work on appropriate playing/bowing technique, music reading skills, and intonation. Repertoire selected will vary based on your experience level and personal goals.

Understand that learning to sing or play an instrument doesn’t happen over night. It may look easy on TV, but the reality is that life is not like an episode of Glee or American Idol. Those performers had to start somewhere, work extremely hard to get to where they are, and continually work to improve and excel in a competitive atmosphere. As your teacher, I will use what I know to help you grow. Whatever your goal(s) are, with positivity and determination, we will strive to reach them together. At the very least, we will build confidence in ourselves as musicians, and trust in the gifts you have to share!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Upstairs loft music area w/ seating for parents

*** Travel Equipment ***
I would provide the keyboard for use in voice lesson that occurs in my home, an audio/video recording of the lesson if requested, and some initial repertoire to start with. The student would be encouraged to bring any repertoire they are interested in learning. For high school singers I will have access to the All-State pieces after I return from TCDA in late July. Violin students would be expected to bring their own instruments. All students would need to keep a binder with a practice log and lesson notes each week.

*** Specialties ***
I am classically trained in voice with additional experience singing vocal jazz, pop, and musical theatre styles. I have played the violin for 10 years in orchestral, religious, wedding, mariachi, improvisational settings.

I currently work with HEB ISD and BISD teaching private lessons to Junior High age students. I enjoy working with a variety of age groups, styles and skill levels. I have extensive experience as a recitalist, church soloist and as an opera singer and I specialize in classical voice. *** Lesson Details ***
I teach all styles and types of music and I always want my students to really connect with and enjoy the songs they sing. I like all my students to have a good foundation in the 'basics' of good voice production. No matter what kind of music, the fundamentals of posture and good breath support are the first things I address with any new student. I use vocal exercises tailored to the individual student's needs and goals. After the first 3 months or so a committed student will improve their breath control and coordination and improve the strength and stamina of their voice. I find that personal confidence in all areas of life is improved by the process of understanding and developing the voice.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Living room w/ electronic keyboard, laptop, and seating for parents

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide my own copies of music. Student should provide their own copy of any music or books necessary. Student should provide a piano or keyboard for lessons involving music (not necessary for speech).

*** Specialties ***
*Teachers marked as a Student Favorite have taught a minimum of 25 lessons and have received the highest feedback rating from students.I enjoy teaching all styles, from pop and rock, jazz and blues to Broadway and classical voice. As a performer I specialize in classical/operatic singing including choral styles.

About Me

I am a singer-pianist. Or a pianist-singer. :-)
I have a bachelors degree in voice performance and a minor in piano and theater.
I have a masters degree in voice as well as a second masters in piano literature.
i have a certificate in comedy improvisation from Second City and am a professional actor.
My post graduate work is in vocal pedagogy.
I have been a professional teacher and performer for over 20 years. My students come in every model imaginable - and I wouldn't have it any other way. Raw beginner or veteran actor or musician, professional recording artist, College music major or American Idol wannabe.

The arts are such a great language for communicating. I grew up with two parents who were professional musicians (mom is a concert pianist) and I also raised 3 children who are professional musicians. We made music our native language in our home. We all have the ability to speak music when it is spoken to us. I don’t ever remember not playing the piano. I started winning piano competitions in high school. I minored in piano, and then did additional post graduate work in piano. I “speak” piano. It has served me so well as a teacher, composer, opera coach. It is really a gateway to understanding all other instruments. The same scenario with my singing.

I began my professional career as an opera singer which has taken me around the world. I have premiered works by Leonard Bernstein and Samuel Adler in addition to principal roles and concert work with Pittsburgh Opera, The Pittsburgh Symphony, Dayton Opera, the Tuscia Opera Festival and hundreds of professional engagements. I have also had the wonderful opportunity to belt the National Anthem for several major league teams in a television appearance- and has done so on multiple occasions. (Pittsburgh Pirates, Pittsburgh Penguins, Pittsburgh Steelers, Cincinnati Reds) I am passionate about vocal jazz and musical theater and am frequently found as a performer in various national and regional venues. Feature concert works include PBS (Gershwin in Concert) as well as featured solo concert works (Pergolesi Stabat Mater) on Italian Public TV.

My approach to music has always been to do what you love. I have never limited myself as a performer to a genre or an instrument. I have explored, applied myself to and enjoyed a very diverse musical career. If you have a passion for an instrument or style of music let's start there first... and then let's discover together all the things you do that uniquely define your musicianship style.

*** Lesson Details ***
Your lessons will always be engaging, challenging and fun!

I am very consistent in my approach to technique, my focus on goals and my demand for excellence. I constantly am working to access with you what your goals are and to provide feedback and support to help you achieve them.

I am very flexible in utilizing a wide variety of repertoire, resources etc. Your lessons are personalized to your skill set and your musical interests. I utilize audio and video recordings almost every week for all my students. I routinely promote and encourage my students to participate in a wide variety of competitions, recitals, workshops and master classes.

I have a very low turnover rate for students and a very high rate of students who have progressed to professional full time careers in music. Students like being a part of my studio and really like the confidence they have in their music abilities in a very short period of time.

I do not use the same curriculum for all students, in face, each curriculum is customized for that student. The components are similar: technique, repertoire, theory, listening, composing, recording and performing.

You can expect the following:You will feel very encouraged and supported in your talent. You will have measurable improvement in your skills. You will have a personal advocate to encourage and direct you in finding and creating opportunities to succeed in your music personally, academically and professionally.

I can't wait to get started!
