About Mike

Music is my life and air. I started playing the drums when I was 12 years old. I played in every band and music ensemble I could throughout junior high, high school, and college. I have played in bands outside of school with music styles ranging from Rock, Punk, Hardcore, Metal, and Hip Hop. Since 2008, I have been teaching private drum set lessons and marching percussion to students of all ages and backgrounds, including Special Needs.

Recently, I attended the University of Texas at Arlington where I furthered my education in music teaching, music theory, performance, and percussion. I am also an experienced Djembe and Didgeridoo performer. Teaching and encouraging others in music comes naturally to me, and my degree in Music Business supports knowing how to prepare lessons and ...

Great drummer and great guy

Mike volunteers drumming for the band I lead at a local church. Regardless of how difficult the song selection is, he nails his part every week. Mike's experience with diverse musical genres allows him to draw upon a wide range of rhythms and techniques. In addition to his talent, Mike's character stands out as well. Each week he arrives early, is prepared, and friendly.

We met up with Gerson at Murphy's Music in Irving for our drum lessons. Gerson is as he describes himself, "very laid back and easy going". I would add that he was always professional and knows when to challenge and help his student grow.
He will make you feel at ease and meet you at whatever level you are at.
You can tell he has a great passion for music and why he makes it his chosen profession. We found him to be very reliable and yet flexible should schedules change.

Billy H. Arlington, TX

I have mostly taught beginner drummers to get the basics down. -separating the limbs to work independently - rudiments - basic beats and grooves used in popular music - and how to read it and write it on paper if you are interested.

also - "how to count" ...and "understanding song structure"

I have also worked with a few excellent, established drummers on "what to play in the studio" and how to be a good session player...how to be consistent and simplify.... etc

About Billy

I teach my students how to understand how music is put together so they can learn even more on their own.

I read, write, and play all styles and I focus on teaching the student fundamentals that work in all styles of music ....AND I get them going on the style they are interested in - pop, rock, country, folk, etc.

I have spent my entire life in the music industry and I can show you how to use what I teach to apply to the real world. I have also been a successful songwriter and I can work with students to learn about song structure and song writing.

I am also good at preparing students for college music classes.

Full drum kit lessons can consist of basic rock beats all the way to metal blast or even hip hop funk. It all depends on the student. Muscle building techniques will be practiced along with metronome skill sets. Cover songs will help get the student familiar with new technique along with flexibility on the kit. Basic note reading will be included along with knowledge of basic music theory and show presences when behind the kit. Loads of fun waiting to happen!

About Max

I have been playing guitar for about 5 years and drumming for 3. When it comes to teaching I want to make the hour seem like 20 minutes making the lesson as fun and attainable as possible. Exercises should never be dull and boring, you learn the most when your enjoying the moment. Currently I am a drummer in a band, Warriors of Terra, and we are getting ready to record our album. I've been apart of shows all over Fort Worth and Dallas and I've gotten a good taste of what the industry is really like, all knowledge will be included in lessons! Lets get started and have some fun making music!

Emily D. Denton, TX

I have been playing the drumset for five or six year now, and I love it. I have drawn from my knowledge of classical percussion instruments, piano background, and my music reading skills.

About Emily

I have been playing percussion since I was 11 years old. I played on drumline in high school, and minored in music at Southern Virginia University, where I just graduated from last May.

While in college I had a teaching internship, where I taught both the Middle and High School Percussion in Buena Vista, Virginia.

I believe that the most important parts of playing percussion are learning to read music and having fun! Lessons with me will begin with the basics of reading music, and your skills will only get better from there!

Aside from music, I love fishing, laughing, and Virginia. I love to teach those who want to learn.
