I have played piano and studied its literature for over forty years. As a college undergraduate, I majored in Piano Performance and Music Theory at the Cleveland Institute of Music and The Wisconsin Conservatory of Music. I also have a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Massachusetts – Boston.

I am currently a member of the Music Teachers Association of California (MTAC) and the California Association of Professional Music Teachers (CAPMT).

Music has been a large part of my life since I first started taking piano lessons at the age of six. In fifth grade, I learned to play the flute, and I performed in bands all the way through college. In high school, I also picked up the violin, and enjoyed playing in orchestras as well. I earned my Bachelors degree in Music Education and my California teaching credential from Biola University in Southern California. During that time, I enjoyed playing many other instruments. My primary instruments are the flute, piano, and violin, although I also play (and teach) beginning clarinet, viola, and cello.

In addition to giving private lessons, I also teach school band and orchestra, so I bring the added perspective of a conductor who can help students learn how their part fits in with the whole ensemble. I have taught elementary, middle school, and high school band and orchestra, as well as clinics and small group classes.

I played saxophone, and was only mildly interested in music. I stayed in music in high school, but remained only mildly interested until my Sophomore year. Music is the longest lasting love. I fell in love with music after listening to prayer songs as a child. One of my earliest memories is walking up to the pianist during a prayer and trying to play along. Shortly after that day, I was gifted a small keyboard, which I used to teach myself. I am currently in my last year of graduate school at San Jose State University where I will obtain a Master of Arts in Jazz Studies, with an emphasis in drum set performance. I completed my Bachelor of Music in Music Education from San Jose State where I mainly studied snare drum, timpani, and mallet percussion, but also studied the fundamentals in brass, woodwinds, strings, and voice. Additionally, I took private jazz drum set lessons to focus on becoming a versatile musician and teacher.

As an undergraduate student I had the opportunity to teach percussion courses at a music camp to students between the ages of 6 and 17 that had no prior music experience. I have toured internationally, and have performed at many renowned venues within the United Stated, such as the Blue Note Jazz Club in New York City. I have performed with famous musicians like Bobby McFerrin and New York Philharmonic, and many more.
