Hello! I am a flutist, drummer, and composer who graduated from Lewis & Clark College. I received my BA in flute performance with honors and had many playing and performing opportunities there.
I was the principle flutist of the Lewis & Clark Wind Symphony and Orchestra and was the drummer for the jazz combos, winning the best composer award. I performed as a featured soloist with the orchestra and organized and performed a junior and senior flute recital. I am well versed in music from the baroque era through the 21st century and have studied and played many styles of music. As a drummer and flutist I have played with folk singers, funk bands, in jazz ensembles, experimental groups, and with chamber ensembles. I really enjoy playing different styles of music and I am very serious about making music at a high level in any genre I participate.

I have been teaching since 1998 and am an active musician, composer, and instructor in the Portland-Metro area since 2006. Performing and studying music throughout my years has given me volumes of knowledge that I now share with students young and old.

My early work with Rudimental Snare Techniques in marching bands built a tremendous foundation by which I have adapted to learn other percussive instruments with great effect. I use this background to give my students the same edge I had when working on new music and studying new techniques.

Through college I worked mainly with the Keyboard Instruments (Marimba, Xylophone and Vibraphone) and the Timpani. I consider these instruments to be on the Orchestral side of the percussion world and I am blessed to perform several times a year with Portland orchestral ensembles. Techniques used in orchestral playing are specific to those instruments however, and it is a challenge to learn them, but the foundation built through studies...

I have toured the country, opened up for large acts(Art Alexakis of Everclear, Ron Sexsmith), I currently play in professional symphonies(Columbia and Vancouver Symphony), write music for documentaries and commercials, and am finishing my degree in Percussion Performance at PSU. In addition to this experience, I have studied with drummers Gary Hobbs(Stan Kenton), and Sean Wagner (Cherry Poppin' Daddies"). I have been teaching privately for about 15 years now, and have students that have gone on to do amazing things in music!! I have been playing drums since I was 10 years old. I loved playing drums so much that it became my life work. I was so advanced at an early age that I began giving lessons and teaching drum line when I was 13. I joined my first professional rock band at 15, and I have been playing and teaching music ever since.
I was fortunate to play in one the worlds top drum and bugle corps, the Santa Clara Vanguard, I also studied Jazz from the area's top jazz drummer, Dick Carlo, who was a student of Joe Morello. My technique is a unique combination of Jazz, Orchestral, and Rudimental styles. The luckiest part of my education was that I went to Lynbrook High School, which had the top concert band in the California. This is where I learned to play concert and orchestra music, and I learned about style, and musicianship.

I have over 40 years of drum experience. I have studied Jazz and Rock under Steve Lawerence of the Oregon Symphony and with Dick Hall.
I played snare drum in the Spartans Drum Corps. I was the drummer for Cleveland High Schools stage band, choir and vocal ensemble the Clevelandaires.
I played and traveled with numerous bands with styles ranging from Jazz, Dixieland, Country, Rock, Waltz and Latin Rhythms.
Other groups I have played with/for are Youth for Christ, Plus 1 (not the Contemporary Christian group) Mt. Hood Concert Band and Up with People.
I have been teaching drums for 15 years.
My students have consistently placed among the top 3 of District competitions and have gone on to compete at the State level in Rudimental Snare.
