Hi! My name is Al! I've been playing drums for about 11 years now, I started playing at the age of 12 when my parents bought me my first drum set. Since then drumming has been my life, everything from playing in numerous bands, drum competitions, private teaching, and National US Tours. Leaving my home town of Brownsville, TX behind, I moved out to L.A Summer of 2008 to attend the Los Angeles Music Academy, where I received my Associates Degree in Music Performance. I currently teach private lessons and I gig around town with various artists. I have lots of musical knowledge that Iv'e obtained by studying with LA's Top Drummers. I'd love to pass down my knowledge only to benefit you in your drum learning experience. If you're just a beginner, only want to take lessons for fun, or more ...
Jan has been teaching drums for over 6 years to students ranging from 4 years old to adults in their forties.
He teaches exercises and techniques that allow students to break down the movements of their hands and feet on the drum kit into specific strokes that can then methodically be practiced to attain proficiency, control and speed on the instrument.
To keep things fun and interesting we learn covers in a variety of styles and difficulty levels, and develop our reading skills to further our understanding and technique.
Jan will also allow his students to write their own parts as they progress on the kit by picking up either the guitar or bass and giving them the chance to jam with another instrument, which most students love to do and have a lot of fun with.
Lessons are held with two drum kits so students can easily copy their teachers movements.
Learning an instrument in a music recording studio environment has many advantages and is a lot more fun, creative and rewarding. From your teacher jumping on different instruments for you to develop your independence and timing as a player and recording prepared projects you've been working on, to playing at a higher volume to get to know your gear's real sound, the rocking' memories you'll walk away with will fuel your inspiration to practice and improve fast. My focus is to help you achieve your goals on your instrument. With each individual student, I offer exercises, songs and techniques to practice that will help you to immediately begin seeing positive results. I believe that anyone can play an instrument and take their next step in music. It makes a big difference if you
Can teach beginner to advanced, various styles, emphasis on improvisation and theory. You need your own instrument and the capability to practice daily!

I have been playing drums for 17 years and teaching for over 2 years. For beginning students, I emphasize the development of essential rudiments, timing, and proper technique. This includes learning about the instrument itself. For current drummers, I will focus on the areas in which that student seeks to improve, whether it is learning double-kick drumming, marching snare drum, jazz drumming, etc. Learning to drum should be a fun and enjoyable process, done at the proper pace for each student.
