Acting, Bass Guitar, Guitar, Music Performance, Music Recording, Songwriting, Speaking Voice

About Me

I've been playing guitar since I wans 9 years old and teaching guitar since I was 14. I grew up playing in bands with friends. My parents would drive us (and a ton of equipment!) to wherever we were playing, which was sometimes 50 to 200 miles from home! I later did studio work and played as a solo entertainer. I also studied acting while in college, so being on stage and performing is very comfortable for me.
I have extensive experience in teaching both individuals and groups with regard to several different venues, including guitar, bass guitar, acting, public speaking, songwriting and studio recording.
I also provide a unique service that my students tell me is very helpful. I record instructions, or demonstrations, and email them to you - on the spot! This way you don't get home and wonder "Now how did that go?" or, " How was I able to do that?" You just open the email and listen to it – whenever you like.

*** Lesson Details ***
My teaching style is geared toward each individual student. Everyone has different specific interests and desired outcomes, so my lessons are based on your priorities and your goals. Beginning with your first lesson you should feel inspired and excited! Even if you are just beginning to learn an instrument, you need to have a teacher who can supply you with what you need AND have you playing things that you like within a very short time.
This applies to all types of music; rock, standards, folk, metal, classic rock, popular, country, whatever you want to play. Beginner or advanced. So it's up to you -- just tell me what you want to get out of the lessons, and that is what we do! I may be the instructor, but YOU are the director.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Martin 1963 "000-18" acousticguitar

Digital Video Recorder (portions videoed and emailed to you)
All music, tab, and diagrams are supplied at no additional cost

*** Travel Equipment ***
Guitar, sheet music, diagrams, and any and all notes pertinent to what we work on. I supply everything but the guitar that you are playing.

*** Specialties ***

Phillip Z. Chandler, AZ

Subjects Taught

Bass Guitar, Classical Guitar, Guitar, Music Performance, Music Theory, Songwriting, Ukulele

About Me

I teach music. The guitar, bass guitar, and ukulele just happen to be the particular instruments I choose. Music as a language, discipline, and art, is the goal. I've been teaching, performing, studying, composing, for some thirty years. I've studied and gigged in the classical, jazz, rock, blues, R & B, and country idioms. I've taught composition and improvisation to instruments other than guitar, (vocalists, fiddle, sax, piano, trumpet) I've taught all ages and levels. I currently pursue a doctorate of music in guitar at university. Students learn many things when studying with me. They learn physically how to play a particular instrument while learning music as its own language. Students learn how to learn, learn self-discipline, and access their musical expression, all potential life changing experiences. I am happy and excited to announce I am available for on-line lessons, and will now be able to work with students from all over the world, regardless of distance or location!

*** Lesson Details ***
I am laid back, but at the same time very goal directed. I like to do technique and/or vocabulary, note reading, and songs every lesson. After six months students are able to to 'jam', (improvise over chord changes such as the blues). They are well on their way to becoming literate, probably a third way through the first book. They probably can play a half dozen songs well, and are starting to strum (comp) chord progressions in a musically rhythmic way. They may even have played in a couple concerts by then.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Office studio w/ guitar, bass, amps, and seating for parents, computer with skype capability.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I bring my guitar and writing tools, extra picks, extra paper etc. Students provide their own instrument, method book, staff paper, notebook paper. Hopefully they have a music stand and their own guitar picks and other items relevant for the study of their instrument.

*** Specialties ***
Classical, jazz, rock, blues, country, bluegrass, theory/composition, improvisation

Andrew A. Tempe, AZ

Subjects Taught

Bass Guitar, Classical Guitar, Drum, Guitar, Music Theory, Piano

About Me

My name is Andrew, and I've been a musician nearly my entire life. I have a bachelor's degree in classical guitar performance from Arizona State University, but my background goes far beyond classical music. My performance experiences range from playing violin in my high school symphony orchestra to playing lead guitar in a Santana cover band, and just about everything in between! As a teacher, you can expect me to be positive and encouraging. My biggest goal is to inspire you and help you discover a similar passion for music as I've developed over the years.

*** Lesson Details ***
While I do expect students to practice consistently, I always do my best to tailor the lesson plans to their wants as well as their needs so practice is both fun and challenging. For students pursuing classical music, I'll typically start them in a book and reading sheet music, but for just about anything else, the lesson plans will be more customized to the taste of my students and will not require music reading ability in most cases. After the first few months, my students can expect to have a solid understanding of music, their instrument, and what steps to take to reach their long term goals.

*** Studio Equipment ***
My studio includes a full drum set, electric piano, as well as several guitars and a bass guitar. I would prefer that the student brings his or her own guitar or bass. I always have spare books and music in case the student forgets to bring their own.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I travel with my own guitar and bass guitar, but for piano and drum lessons, the student will need their own instrument and a quiet area to get the most from the lessons.

*** Specialties ***
While I have a degree in classical guitar, I have several years of experience with blues and classic rock, specifically on the electric guitar and drums. Aside from those, I enjoy all genres of music and have plenty of musical experience outside of the aforementioned genres.

Subjects Taught

Acoustic Guitar, Arrangement and Composition, Audio Engineering, Bass Guitar, Bongo, Conga Drums, Drum, Guitar, Hand Drums, Music Performance, Music Recording, Music Theory, Percussion, Piano, Pro Tools Software, Songwriting

About Me

I began as a musician in my high school drum line, where I discovered my true passion for percussion and music performance. Since graduating, I have toured the country with drum and bugle corps, performed Japanese taiko drums with Alice Cooper, traveled to South Korea to perform in a drum festival, and played countless gigs all over Arizona!

In addition to keeping a busy performance schedule, I love to teach out of my home studio in Scottsdale. I have a fully equipped teaching studio with 2 drum sets, plenty of practice pads, as well as guitars, electric pianos, and a white board for music theory and visual aid.

I strive to keep a laid back atmosphere while teaching, so that students are comfortable and encouraged to express themselves through music. I am able to tailor my style to meet a variety of student needs. Whether you are a fresh starter just looking to bang on some drums and learn to write songs with a guitar, or a more advanced player who wants to develop their sight-reading chops; I look forward to working with you and helping you to forward your musical endeavors!

Cheers!

*** Lesson Details ***
My goal is to keep a laid back and positive atmosphere so that you feel comfortable and are able to learn in your own way. Having worked with a variety of learners, and studied with a lot of great teachers myself, I have developed many strategies to help students grasp the material and understand it in their own unique way.

There is plenty of parking space at my home studio in the driveway or on the street, and it is safe day or night. Parents are welcome to wait in my comfy living room, go shopping at the grocery store just down the street, or grab a latte at my favorite local coffee shop.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Pearl Session Custom 5-piece drum kit,
Roland Electronic drum kit,
Bass guitar and amp,
Electric guitar and amp,
Acoustic guitar,
PA system,
Mac Pro with Protools HD and plug ins,
Electric Pianos,
Music Stands,
Large white board and visual aids,
Library of method books, exercises and other resources!

*** Travel Equipment ***
Drums:

I can provide sticks, mallets, practice pads, sheet music and a metronome.

I expect the student to invest in their own sticks, practice pad, metronome, drum set (if needed), and 1 or 2 method books for at home practice.

Guitar/Bass:

I can bring acoustic or electric guitar, small practice amp, tuner and guitar picks.

It obviously works best if the student has their own guitar to practice on, guitar picks, tuner, and method book.

*** Specialties ***
Being a percussion student and performer of over 10 years, I specialize in all styles of drum set as well as marching percussion. I also have students in beginner guitar as well as bass guitar!
