About Me

Education Experience:

Private Lessons - 22 years
Public and Magnet Schools - 7 years

I've tutored 100’s of students from ages 4 to 58. Teaching primarily saxophone I've also tutored on Clarinet, Flute, piano, guitar, bass, percussion, tuba, trumpet and voice. I also give instruction in music theory, improvisation, arranging, composition, engraving, music notation, and general studio operations from recording to engineering. I have given lessons privately and under many school and magnet programs from Iowa, Miami and currently the Nashville school systems.

I hold a Degree from the highly accredited University of Miami in Coral Gables Florida, and have also taken courses at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls Iowa in classical performance and education.

Professional Experience:

As a musician I have traveled to and performed in over 51 countries around the world, all the major cities in the US and many famous venues in New York City, London and Rome. I've appeared with such artists as: Michael Brecker, Arturo Sondoval, Jerry Bergonzi, David Sanborn, Bob Mintzer, David Liebman, Joe Lovano, Jamey Aebersold, Bobby Shew, Poncho Sanchez, Duffy Jackson, American Idol's Kimberely Locke, Earth wind and Fire, Lionel Richie, Clarence Clemets, William Shatner, The Miami Heat American Airlines Arena Band, and most recently in Nashville with Steve Martin’s Bluegrass Band.

Student Lesson Details:

Most importantly, I believe music should be fun and music lessons should also be fun. Not only is it important to learn music but also to PLAY IT! I teach a simple and effective system to all students learning music or an instrument for the first time. It is my goal to achieve that students potential in the shortest amount of time and at the highest level.

It is important that all students learn the fundamentals of the language of music however I’m very flexible to each student’s individual needs and desires.

Teacher Equipment and Studio:

The lesson studio is located in the heart of Nashville’s Music Row. It is a professional recording studio and an isolated space offering a noise free environment. The studio is also equipped with a waiting area where parents can view the lesson through a large glass window. There is also a lavatory and free parking.

The studio offers professional recording gear and an 88 weighted key piano. I can also provide all lesson materials and books required for learning and some additional instruments are also available.

**Special services**

For the same price as the lesson time I can also provide instrument repair service. I have many years experience working on saxophones, clarinets, flutes and other instruments dealing with general maintenance, to complete overhaul. Please inquire for more details.

Zander W. Nashville, TN

Subjects Taught

Banjo, Bass Guitar, Classical Guitar, Flamenco Guitar, Guitar, Mandolin, Music Recording, Music Theory, Ukulele

About Me

I am a Nashville session musician, sideman and music teacher. I received a Bachelor of Music degree in Commercial Music with a Composition and Arranging Emphasis from Belmont University and I am currently pursuing a Masters in Music at MTSU. Coming from a family of Classical and Jazz musicians, I have been exposed to music my whole life. Over the years I have had the opportunity to play and record with many great bands and artists ranging from Country/Bluegrass to Rock to Jazz. I teach all genres of guitar, bass, banjo ukulele and mandolin.

*** Lesson Details ***
I believe the ability to play an instrument is only part of musicianship. I also strive to teach my students the theory behind the music they learn. I work hard to make sure that my students are doing everything in the easiest way possible. I want to ensure that they are able to progress quickly enough so that they can see the difference. The most rewarding moment as a teacher is when a student points out how hard something once was and how easy it has become.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music store environment. No pets.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I travel with all teaching equipment needed but a music stand is recommended for the lessons and for practicing.

*** Specialties ***
I am a very versatile teacher and player but I am often recommended based on my knowledge of Gypsy Jazz, Swing, bluegrass, country and rock teaching acoustic guitar, electric guitar, banjo, mandolin and ukulele

Matthew D. Nashville, TN

Subjects Taught

Guitar, Music Theory, Songwriting

About Me

An Ohio native, I began playing guitar when I was 6 and came from a musical family. I am an active performer, producer, and composer. My goal as a teacher is to foster a lifelong interest in music and give my students the tools they need to develop their art.

If you want to get the most out of your practice time and build a solid foundation on which you can continually develop, a great teacher can accelerate your development and get you where you want to be. If you are a beginner or even a seasoned player looking to advance your playing, knowing which direction to go and how to continue developing can be a challenge. Methods are many, principals are few. Understanding how music works will allow you to become your own teacher in the long run and that is my goal with all of my students.

Practice is a discovery process. We start with the basics, keep it simple, and develop all parts of your musicianship while having fun. Fretboard knowledge, improvisation, and music theory are later used to expand on these fundamentals and take it as far as you would like to go. Some students learn better visually, some auditory, and others are more mechanical. The lessons are adapted to the student's weaknesses, learning style, and pace. Have fun, grow, and create!

"I have come to believe that a great teacher is a great artist and that there are as few as there are any other great artists. Teaching might even be the greatest of the arts since the medium is the human mind and spirit."
- J. Steinbeck

Subjects Taught

Accompaniment, Acoustic Guitar, Arrangement and Composition, Audio Engineering, Audition Prep, Bass Guitar, Classical Piano, Composition, Drum, Ear Training, Guitar, Music Performance, Music Recording, Music Theory, Organ, Percussion, Piano, Singing, Songwriting, Synthesizer

About Me

As a graduate of University of Memphis (Bachelor of Music, composition/percussion, 1983), I have since been a professional musician for over thirty years, performing in 49 out of 50 United States, Canada, U.K., Japan, Malaysia, and Singapore, and on over 100 nationally released recordings. I believe everyone has music inside that needs to be nurtured and shared, so I began teaching contemporary keyboard lessons privately in upstate New York starting in 2010. In 2012 I was invited to be the main keyboard teacher at the Paul Green Rock Academy in Woodstock NY, whose namesake was the original founder of the School of Rock franchise, and within the first year helped to quadruple the student body, while guiding them through learning the demanding music of Yes, Queen, and Frank Zappa. Now returned to Nashville, I am looking forward to teaching--and being inspired by--interested students in the Music City! From piano to organ to the latest in synthesizers and samplers...I can help!
