About Me

David is a gifted and highly motivated musician with very diverse talents. The owner of Studio K Music in Geneva, Illinois, he has mentored hundreds of youth and adults in piano and keyboard instruction since 1991. Studio K has become the most successful piano studio in the western suburbs of Chicago, with an enrollment of nearly two hundred students. His secret to success has been helping kids and adults develop a love for piano and keyboard by keeping it fun and using a great deal of popular music, as well as standard repertoire.

David is also a highly sought after Christian musician, facilitating worship for large and small events and services throughout the Chicagoland area with his passionate, contemporary style of musical leadership. He is capable at communicating with all different aged groups of people. David graduated in 1988 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Keyboard Performance from Northern Illinois University, with an emphasis on organ, jazz piano and harpsichord. Since 1985 he has been a Freelance Jobbing Musician, playing solo piano, jazz quartet, and with various big bands for numerous events, weddings and corporate parties in the Chicago area. In 1990 he coached a student to the Yamaha National Electone Festival Finals, and in 1991, he was himself a finalist, composing a piece dedicated to the war efforts in the Persian Gulf entitled "Persian Gulf Update".

In 1997 David released his first solo piano CD entitled “In Search Of Christmas,” which has sold thousands of copies locally. Between 2002 and 2004 he released three CDS: Gift Of Christmas, Jazz Piano Christmas, and the newest album, Journal Of My Soul, an ethereal compilation of original improvisations.

*** Lesson Details ***
Each one hour, semi-private lesson provides students with the opportunity to practice what they learn, giving them a higher retention level. A half hour private lesson, the student plays pieces, the teacher writes in the notebook, and the time is up!

David is the primary instructor for every class and private lesson. Teaching assistants are also on board to ensure that each student receives the instruction and attention needed. The hour allows students to learn more material and drill on the fundamentals: note reading, rhythms, scales and chords, improvisation, etc…

Each piano station is equipped with a laptop computer for recording, writing, rhythm drills and music theory work. Once a child has enough recordings compiled, he or she also receives the experience of making a CD of the performances!

All of the music the students work on is available for listening and playing along with on this website. A growing library of video help files are also available for individual pieces.

David teaches IMPROVISATION, something the most other teachers won't even touch. Here, music theory is put into practice by teaching the students how to create his/her own music and improvise on pieces they play.

The class experience gives students the chance to play with others through duet and ensemble pieces, something most private students never have the opportunity to do.

Subjects Taught

Guitar, Organ, Piano

About Me

"Music is the catalyst that helps to enhance the quality of life.We as musicians and educators MUST pass it on."

I am a 27 year practicing professional musician, songwriter, arranger, and music educator. Music is my passion. I currently teach guitar, piano, and organ, and serve as minister of music and staff musician for two Chicago area church congregations. I have played guitar and keyboards for local bands, and am well versed with a variety of musical styles.

*** Lesson Details ***
I specifically tailor my lessons for each student....I do not use a "cookie cutter" lesson style. To achieve the best lesson approach for the most positive student outcome, I conduct a student assessment during the first lesson (first lessons are free for a limited time) to determine student skills, goals, and objectives. After the assessment, I structure a comprehensive, contemporary lesson plan that includes fundamentals, technique, theory, and songs relative to the lesson in a fun and productive manner that engages the student and promotes his/her creativity.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Acoustic piano (A 440), Hammond X-C3 organ, 6 string acoustic/electric guitar, 6 string classical guitar

*** Travel Equipment ***
My expectation would be that all students I visit in home would have an acoustic piano properly tuned, or a digital piano or keyboard with 88 weighted keys. Guitar students should have a 6 string, acoustic or electric guitar (with an amplifier). I will supply music books and teaching materials.

About Me

I am a graduate of Kansas State University and I am currently attending dental school at Midwestern University in Downers Grove. I have experience tutoring biology at the college level, and worked for two years as a teaching assistant. I love spending my free time learning everything I can about science, politics, and even appropriate grammar.

I have seven years of experience teaching piano to students ranging from 4 to 54 years of age. I knew when I was three that I wanted to play piano, and I love teaching others so that they can experience the same joy that I feel when I sit down to play. I started playing organ at the age of 14, and was playing for my church congregation by 16. In addition to my own recitals and competitions, I have played for a number of church and school choirs, vocal and instrumental soloists, weddings, funerals, and so on. I studied piano and organ at Kansas State University while completing a degree in biology prior to entering dental school. I currently enjoy playing for the children at church and accompanying my beautiful wife who plays flute.

I started learning Spanish while living as a child in Panama. I also studied Spanish throughout grade school. I became fluent while living in Peru for two years during my college years. I often work with Spanish-speaking patients as part of my dental education.
