Learning piano is a great way to build a musical foundation. Piano students will learn how to use their ears to pickup on their favorite songs, in addition to working through books and fundamentals. Recently, a student who started from scratch went part of the way through the method book until she reached "When the Saints Go Marching In". We learned the chord structure of the song, and she learned to improvise over the structure. She decided to do the student recital, and performed a super fun 5-minute version of the song with a professional band. The whole room was into it and it was magical! Contact me for piano lessons and see what can happen when you understand not just how to read notes, but how music works when you play with a real band.

My students will develop a passion for music and a desire to play!
I like to get right to the experience of actually playing music. I start with learning songs, drum beats, and chord progressions and get to technique and music reading AFTER we have had some fun.
My key to successful teaching is to create a custom curriculum for each student. Some students are interested in the details of how to do it "right", and others just want to rock. I try to adapt to different learning styles and musical goals to give each student an ideal experience.
I want students to learn how to play, not just how to read or do drills. We will listen to music together, and talk about the function of each instrument. For drummers, I play bass lines on the piano ...
I play and teach all styles and all ages. I'm patient and supportive with younger students. A typical comment from older students about my lessons would be: "I've had so many years of piano lessons and this is the stuff I've always wanted to learn.
I have most students improvising at their very first lesson.
I've played keyboards and sang professionally for the last 25 years. During that time my home has been in the San Francisco Bay Area but I have performed all over the country and have toured several times in Germany, Switzerland, and Japan. I’m a two time winner of the West Coast Songwriters “Song Of The Year Award” and I write music and lyrics as well as record and produce songs for myself and others.
Over those years I've developed a wealth of knowledge and experience that I’m very excited to share with my students. I want you to tell me what your musical dreams are and we will develop a plan to reach them and I will be honored to guide you there.

I take students of any age, starting with age 8, who are just beginning with their musical journey, or who are returning to the piano after many years. I teach the basics, including basic rhythms, notation, scales, arpeggios, chords, etc. as well as learning pieces. I am interested in the musical styles of the various periods of music history, and keyboard literature from the Baroque to the 21st century. I structure lessons to suit the needs and desires of each student.
I love to sing, and I have a passion for teaching students to sing well. I have sung in choruses all my life, and have been inspired by fine conductors and great composers. I am certain that music enlivens my life like nothing else, and it can do that for everyone. Whether you sing in the shower, or in the choir, or with a few friends, or in an opera, you can find your song.
Learning to play the piano, from the very beginning, or picking up where you left off in the past, will bring a spark to your life. Whether you want to play for yourself or some friends, or want to get on track to becoming a concert pianist, music will enrich your life.
My students develop an appreciation for music of the Renaissance up through the 21st century. They are willing to delve into exciting territory ...
With over 20 years of piano playing experience, Liz loves sharing the knowledge she's gathered over the years from the beginning of her music career. As the very first instrument Liz began to study, she's gathered immense detailed knowledge of piano music ranging from classical to contemporary to jazz to pop and even show-style.
After graduating California Institute of the Arts with a multi-focus on several aspects of music including African dance, Indonesian gamelan, songwriting, recording, classical voice and piano, folk guitar, and more, Liz had the excellent opportunity to teach theater to a local musical theater summer youth program. Along with this theater teaching experience, she has been teaching piano, guitar, ukulele, flute & voice lessons for over 9 years. Her students have gone from knowing nothing about music to learning and performing entire pieces on their own as well as even auditioning & for agents and becoming signed artists in Los ...

After pursuing a bachelors degree at Miami University of Ohio in biochemistry & microbiology, I went on to work as an engineer in Silicon Valley. Throughout my years growing up middle school, high school and in college, I performed tutoring services in physics, English writing, and music (percussion, guitar, bass guitar, and piano). Music gave me the edge and freedom to express myself, make friends, and challenge my own abilities throughout the course of my life. I wouldn't be the same person without these gifts and I owe a great debt to my parents who encouraged me and the teachers who taught me.
