So, Buzz is pretty much the best! I’m an adult with a full-time career and no musical background, and I've been looking around off and on for years to find a teacher who wasn't stuffy and was open to a non-traditional student with a semi-crazy work-life schedule. Buzz is patient, flexible, and really breaks down the lessons in ways that make sense to my logical thinking. I always walk away feeling that I learned something new and excited to learn more, which I feel is the biggest testament to his teaching skills. His expertise in music theory has really inspired me to do more than simply learn how to read music, too, and I have no doubt that I’ll be taking lessons with him for a long time to come. Plus he’s hilarious, so that helps.

Stellar Teacher

After one of my daughter lessons, she stated "it was like he believed in me." Buzz is a positive non-judgmental teacher. He is concerned about finding the best way to teach you. He is very patient. He has a way of making students feel comfortable and motivated in a safe learning environment.

Buzz is a brilliant musician with professional etiquette that surpasses most teachers.

Fun to be around

I'm a complete beginner on the piano, and within a matter of a few lessons Buzz had me playing 3 or 4 songs. Not only that, but i learned much about how songs are put together, which made me listen to music differently and deepened my enjoyment of what I was listening to.
True to his word, Buzz asked me what I wanted out the lessons and then delivered.

For Songwriting we use these details:

*** Studio Equipment ***
88 Length Keyboard with hundreds of sounds
Studio Mics
Teaching white board
Music Software
& of course a pen and pad

Though we have this cool stuff to work with; the focus is putting together a solid song; and considering and using the multi facets of putting together an awesome song.
( For example: Do you have a goal; a message you want to stand for? Does this song oppose anything you stand for as a person? Is your message clear in the song? Is it catchy, or how can I make this melody catchy? Is current sounding?)

For this private class/lesson I use the materials:

The Songwriter's Workshop: Melody & The Songwriter's Workshop: Harmony, by Jimmy Kachulis (In which I directly studied under him in college)
Jimmy Kachulis studied songs that were in the top tier of the billboard charts over the past few decades; and as a musician broke them down to understand what made them what they were, and put it ...

Brandi is an excellent teacher. She is working with my grand daughter now vocally and she has improved quite a bit. She is highly skilled, intelligent and a very pleasant teacher to work with. She knows how to bring the best out of Kaylan and my grand daughter is doing things with her voice that she didn't even know she could do. I plan to stick with her through the whole process, of singing, vocals, piano and writing. She is EXCELLENT and well worth the investment!

As an adult student, I didn't know what the experience of taking music lessons would be like. Brandi exceeded my expectations for a teacher. She is knowledgeable, professional, and fun to study with. We have a relationship of trust and good humor. In the few months that I have been studying with her, my confidence and knowledge about the mechanics and musicality of singing have increased immensely. I am sticking with Brandi and with my lessons!

Amazing Vocal Coach!!!

I am very grateful to have Ms. Brandi B as my vocal coach. She is so talented, very patient and she is passionate about what she does. She is not only a vocal instructor; she is also a motivational mentor to me. She is always positive an always reassures me that greatness/perfection doesn’t happen overnight. That is a very powerful nugget to me because this is such a true statement. She is also very humble and can relate to anyone. She has such an amazing voice and she is such a beautiful person inside and out. She also remains professional at all times. She has a very calm spirit and you can feel the positive energy whenever she is around. I am constantly learning something different every time I see her. She has thought me so much and I am already seeing major changes in my voice. Because of her, I am now learning how to break my bad signing habits and do different things with my voice I never knew I could do. She is AWESOME and I would never trade her in for anyone else. On a scale from 1 to 10, she gets 100 every time, that’s how GOOD she is. I highly recommend Ms. Brandi without any reservation because she is an AMAZING vocal coach!!!

By learning very basic music theory principles, you can begin to create your very own music. While you're learning that, we'll study how the great songwriters put their masterpieces together. By identifying the elements that legendary songwriters use, you can immediately put it into practice in your own writing

About Dave

In my teaching practice, I've taught kids as young as 5, on up through adults. Part of my teaching philosophy is that the student needs to have fun regardless of what the topic is, so I have a very light-hearted approach. My teaching also has to be flexible because every one of my students has different strengths, and I structure my approach according to those strengths.

I'm new to this website, so I don't have many reviews at the moment through this website. But, rest assured, I have many good reviews on other parts of the web. Come back soon, as I hope to update this page soon.

If you have any questions, please contact me. I look forward to working with you!

Highly recommended teacher

I am in my mid-30s and picking up Mandolin for the first time without much background in music. Scott has been really great to learn from, teaching me not only the basics of scales and chords but he also has me working on songs and solos which I never thought I'd be able to do so early. I would highly recommend Scott.
