About Me

I am a recent college graduate from Carthage College in Kenosha, WI with a degree in Music Education. I have been taking vocal lessons for 8 years and been providing vocal instruction and aiding vocal teachers for 6 years now. I am a soprano and can teach both broadway style and operatic voice.

My performance credits include: Dido and Aeneas (First Witch), Little Women (Aunt March), Seussical the Musical (Wickersham), and The Marriage of Figaro (Marcellina).

My awards include: 1st Place Singsational Competition (Spring Grove, IL), 1st Place Lake County Fair Talent Competition (advanced to IL State Fair Competition), 1st place Gurnee Idol 2008, and 2nd Place Waukegan Idol 2007.

*** Lesson Details ***
Students should expect to learn about the vocal chords and how to manipulate them. My philosophy is that without the understanding of the vocal mechanism, students can not effectively learn how to use them. I, therefore, will do a lot of vocal exercises with students before they actually sing songs, so they learn all the different colors of their voice.

I also like to put a lot of emphasis on performing, and not just singing! I help students really perform and feel the song, and not just sing the notes.

I am pretty laid back, but I expect students to practice at home! But, if students are having trouble learning, I am very patient!

Lessons in home studio and utilizes a piano to teach. Parking on driveway or on the street is fine.

I do have a keyboard that I can bring with me if the student does not have one in their home.

*** Specialties ***
I teach the Estill method of voice pedagogy which focuses on the actual vocal mechanism (vocal chords, nasal passageways, etc) and uses terminology that describes the look of the vocal chords (thick folds, thin folds, etc) which create different kinds of vocal sounds. I use this method to teach classical voice and broadway voice.

About Me

Music Director of the Chicago Philharmonia Orchestra since 1985, Farobag has also served as Managing Director of the University of Chicago’s Performing Artists Series from 1989 through 2002 and principal conductor of its resident professional ensembles. A skilled interpreter of Baroque literature as well, Farobag continues in his capacity as Artistic Advisor to the Baroque Masterplayers, a virtuoso ensemble that concatenates period performance techniques with modern instruments thus creating a unique voice within the realm of 17th and 18th- century repertoire.

A double graduate of the Eastman School of Music and the University of Rochester, Farobag studied under Anastasia Jempelis, a pioneer of Suzuki violin pedagogy in the United States.

Befitting his penchant for encouraging artistic interest amongst younger members of his community, Farobag is also the principal conductor of the Zoroastrian Symphony Orchestra that offers a unique mixture of young and seasoned professionals sitting side-by-side in a strictly professional setting. Since the year 2000, the ZSO has staged highly successful performances at various venues in Houston, Chicago, and Toronto.

Having also taken graduate-level coursework in educational psychology, mathematics, and philosophy at the University of Chicago, Farobag offers tutelage in various areas of elementary and secondary education as well as in SAT, ACT and GRE test preparation for the mathematics sector.

*** Lesson Details ***
Sheer technique is necessary but insufficient to play an instrument well. Aural skills, that include the study of functional tonality and voice-leading are important factors that impart musicality. This is of great import if the prospective musician wants the audience to truly enjoy his or her performance !

Whether it be the 3 Rs or preparation in the performing arts, a remarkable instructor must go well beyond the subject matter at hand and help imbue the student with a spirit of wonder that, in due time, will foster enthusiasm necessary for excellence.

A child emulates and learns to communicate in his or her mother-tongue through a supporting and nurturing environment. Likewise, a student needs to be sufficiently motivated to embrace learning in a familiar supportive manner.

About Me

Mezzo Soprano, Andrea began her career in music at the age of five when she began accordion lessons. It was apparent at an early age that Andrea was a natural and not long after, she was entered into local, national, and international competitions. Andrea competed in organizations such as American Accordionists Association, International Couple Mondiale held in Hungary and Slovakia, and Grand Prix held In Geneva, Switzerland, to name a few.
After making a name for herself on the national and international scene, Andrea decided to further her music career by earning her Bachelor's in Music from Saint Xavier University, studying under Jan Bickel, DMA. She earned her degree in Voice Performance and performed several roles and solos in concerts throughout her undergraduate degree. Andrea could be seen in roles such as Dido in Dido and Aeneas and Miss Todd in the Old Maid and the Thief.
While earning her degree in Vocal Performance, Andrea participated and performed in several ensembles, distinguishing herself as a diverse and unique musician. Andrea studied piano and voice, taking pedagogy and literature courses for both instruments, and performed in various ensembles on each instrument, as well as accordion.
After earning her Bachelor’s degree, Andrea decided to go on for a Master’s Degree in Voice Performance at Roosevelt University, where she studied under Mark Crayton. Andrea was heard as Third Lady in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte and Armelinde from Viardot’s Cendrillon while at Roosevelt.
Andrea earned her Master’s Degree in 2012 and is currently performing the Chicago land area as a recitalist. She also sings in churches around the Chicago-land area as a soloist and apart of choral ensembles.
Before and during her college years, Andrea operated her own private teaching studio, where she taught students of all ages and levels, accordion, piano, and voice. With a background rich in performance experience, teaching experience, and education, Andrea is ready to help you achieve your goals.

In order to help you achieve your goals, I generally use our first lesson together to discuss the goals you want to achieve when taking lessons. I like to discuss background and experience with music and assist you in achieving your set goals.
I am a very interactive and high energy teacher and use various techniques to achieve a desired goal.
I have a strong background in classical music, but am experienced in singing and teaching popular and musical theatres genres as well as classical. My primary concern is that I am teaching my students what a healthy sound looks, feels, and sounds like, enabling a long, healthy career, if so desired.
With my high energy, interactive teaching, you can expect an intense lesson experience where you will be challenged and assisted in reaching your goals. Although I enjoy using the Alfred method for piano, I am open to using various method books, but will supplement if necessary with written coursework and books.

I'm a classically trained singer taking a hard left at the corner of classical technique and real-world application. I studied classical voice for undergrad, but I started work in pop and jazz voice during my Masters degree. As a result, I've turned out to be a very versatile instructor, well-versed in multiple genres and able to teach healthy technique to all.

*** Lesson Details ***
I tend to be pretty laid-back. You give me your time and commitment and I guarantee that I will push for you as hard as I can in order to help you achieve your goals. I have a few recommended books for students to purchase, but no set curriculum. I expect that our lessons will be an exploration of our shared musical tastes with an emphasis upon building a healthy performance technique. For younger kids, I tend to use a lot of folk songs and Disney.

I will bring theory worksheets if I teach music theory. If I teach cello, student would be required to provide their own instrument or to rent one from myself. If there is a piano in the house, I am functional to provide limited accompaniment.

I take music very seriously but at the same time I like my lessons to be fun and a joyous experience. I am very patient and helpful with any struggles that may seem too hard to the student. I will start my students off with the basic vocal warm ups and then move on to material that they would like to cover and if so the student doesn't have material to cover, I will present them with material. Being a singer is not easy at all, so I will challenge my students by giving exercises that challenge them to sing for proficient. I will also bring in material that is brand new and ask the students questions about the piece. The student is in the lesson to learn everything about music, so any type of material that I feel will benefit them and help them move closer to their goal, I will definitely present to them. After 3 to 6 months students will be able to sing in the 3 minor keys and the major key. The student will also have knowledge and know how to sing at least 3 different modes. The singer will know how to read basic sheet music and perform it with solfege. The singer will also have 4 songs of my choice or their choice mastered and ready to perform in front of an audience. Lastly, the singer will have knowledge of proper breath control while performing, usage of a microphone, and intonation.

Lessons are designed to better the performances and techniques of a singer, dancer, or actor.
Techniques such as breathing, diction, pitch, tone, posture, rhythm, smoothness, and stage presence will be practiced. I do my best to develop lessons that are tailored to each student based on their individual needs. Lessons start simply with gentle vocal exercises based on humming and open vowel sounds. Each student can expect to be challenged through exciting a stimulating exercises. I also teach techniques to improve posture, poise and vocal performance. I enjoy using simple scales to improve pitch and volume while also working on clarifying the students voice. A students performance, whether they aspire to be a performer, teacher, or just enjoy performing should have a positive self portrait of themselves. We will work on building confidence so we as performers can take pride in ourselves and what we represent. My students are expected to practice outside of the lesson. I also encourage them to keep a practice journal of when and how long they have practiced. It helps the students to trouble shoot areas of their performance and take the opportunity to ask questions during the next lesson.

I work from a loft apartment, consisting of an area next to computer with a home recording studio area for music and keyboard. There is also seating for parents if they desire to attend lessons.

I highly suggest the student have their own keyboard/piano. I do have a keyboard and music along with theory books and lesson plans, but would expect a quiet work environment for the student to pay attention.
