Patient Piano Teacher

I heard of Amy when I was in school, looking for a way to get better at my music. She teaches piano, voice and guitar - I was really looking for help in piano. Her teaching skills are awesome! She understands music theory incredibly well, and has clear-cut teaching methods that help you grasp concepts and make feel smarter than you are! I really do recommend her if you are looking for beginning or advanced teaching. She will take you far.

About Paul

I have played the guitar for twenty years and have studied a wide variety of music including jazz, classical, folk, blues and rock. I’m skilled in acoustic, electric and classical styles of the guitar. I have an open mind about music and can appreciate any style or type. I have a firm background on music theory, so I am able to explain what I am teaching. I excelled in all my classes in college, music and Gen Eds, with a GPA over 3.75. I also have experience in teaching guitar or bass to students ranging from the ages of six to sixty six. I enjoy taking what I have learned and passing it on to someone else to experience. I believe this is one way you can leave your mark in music. I believe the experience I have playing in bands, and learning songs with my ability of having ...

Paul is AMAZING! He is the best music teacher I've ever had. He makes the class so fun and enjoyable, and he makes me love acoustic guitar even more. I started to take lessons with Paul as a beginner knowing nothing about acoustic guitar, and have learned so much from him. He is so patient and knowledgeable, he is able to answer all kinds of questions that I have relating to guitar and music. He has AWESOME personality, when you take lessons with him, time flies. He is very good at learning a new song quickly. Sometimes I pick songs that I want to learn, and show these songs to him during class, some of the songs that he has never heard before, he can recognize the chords right away, and wrote them down and teach me how to play. He is a great teacher, you won't be regretted to take his class!

Paul is a fabulous instructor!! He is so enthusiastic about what he does and takes his time with our lessons. I have never felt rushed at a lesson and we always use up the entire hour. Paul is also very accommodating when it comes to the practice location. He adjusts his schedule to make it easier for me to commute to the destination of the practice. In addition, Paul picks up music very quickly, so any song you want to learn, he will write the notes down for you and teach you to play it! I highly recommend Paul as an instructor because he is very good at what he does.

I have been taking online lessons with Paul for four months now. He creates focused lessons that not only help my playing but greatly expand my knowledge of theory. He is great at taking your input on what you hope to get out of the lessons. He is very open to working with my busy schedule. The online lessons are a great way for someone with limited free time to playing. I highly recommend taking lessons from Paul.

About Ian

I’ve been teaching professionally to all ages and levels for over 10 years throughout the Chicagoland area. I have been playing for about 19 years. Music is my passion. I even own and run an all ages music venue. Teaching is my biggest love and I love seeing students learn! There isn’t a style I will not teach. All music to me is fascinating:)

*** Lesson Details ***
All lessons start with the basics (assuming the student doesn’t already know them). This includes: reading music and chord diagrams (usually using a book for students under the age of 15), understanding rhythm, basic music theory, etc. Meanwhile, we apply this knowledge to songs of the student’s choice- this way they’re learning songs they like, and more about guitar and music at the same time. ...

great teacher for popular acoustic guitar

Ian is a no nonsense well organized guy. He taught me using exercises he wrote out on paper mostly in tabulature form. He used a metronome from the first lesson and always introduced a music theory concept such as rhythm, pentatonic scales, and chord transposition. He will not move past any exercise until you can demonstrate proficiency so there is no choice but to draw your own conclusion that you need to practice more if you want to progress. He teaches out of his local all ages music venue, or will travel to your home.

A great experience.

As an adult, beginner student I have nothing but good things to say about Ian. He has a very good demeanor during class and takes the time to find out what styles you are interested in.

He has the patience and communication skills that are found in superior instructors (I have been to a couple others and have stuck with Ian). His passion for music is infectious.

He challenges me to become better with each week and is good at instilling a sense of competition. I highly recommend him as an instructor.

Improved Tremendously

Lisa is bright and compassionate. She definitely has a gift of teaching, which makes learning guitar fun. Though I had some past music experience, I always was kind of stumped by it as well. For the first time I feel like I truly understand music and rhythm. From building your chord library to strumming techniques taught in a way that intuitively makes sense, you will love music and guitar even more, more than you possibly thought you could.
Joseph M. Skokie, IL

As far as general guitar technique am able to teach to a advanced level except for heavy metal electric and jazz styles. For any kind of fingerpicking can teach to a advanced level.

About Joseph

My Story:

As a guitarist in my early years I spent much time reworking my technique and gaining insight in how guitar playing really works. My early struggles gave way to a solid knowledge of the guitar and music.

This was gained through no small part through my High School music teacher, through master classes of Manuel Lopez Ramos and Abel Carlevaro and others.

These master classes helped me in a big way to develop teaching systems and principles that can help anyone to learn guitar easier and more effectively.

You will gain from the knowledge of these world class guitarists and teachers which will help you to play better and more musical.

And from my musical background-of playing hundreds of songs ...

Great teacher !!!
Tricia S. Skokie, IL

I teach students how to easily learn and move from chord to chord on their guitar quickly. I don't like to waste a lot of time doing the same thing over and over unless that is what a student needs. I have taught so many different types of students that I have developed many tricks and different approaches to learning the guitar that it is easy for me to show a student a different way, if one way isn't working for them. This allows me to quickly assess and switch my method to better navigate the student to success. I encourage lots of hand strumming and short practice session, but often. I'm a fun teacher, and like to motivate students to keep calm, practice, and to remember music is worth their time.
