I graduated with a BA in jazz studies from Columbia in 2007 and have been teaching since 2005. I have played in many different projects, covering many styles including Rock, Jazz, Latin, Hip hop, classical, orchestral, and country. So, I have a strong understanding on the specifics of each of these styles, and a big part of my lesson plan is to teach my students to be as versatile as possible. Hence they have many options as far as playing music. I also play a wide variety of instruments including Piano, Latin Percussion, Mallets, Drum set, Guitar, and bass, so if at any point a student has an interest in trying something different t they have many options. *** Lesson Details *** Gabriel has been drumming professionally for nearly a decade, and teaching for seven years. Hi! My name is Jenn and I am about to graduate from the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater with my Bachelor's of Arts degree in Music. I plan on making a career out of teaching guitar and I'm looking for students now! My last two years in college I taught lessons through the university. I'm just starting out on my own now, so I don't have my own space although I do plan on having one in the future. However, I am more than willing to have students come to my home! I will be living in the Sussex area for the next couple weeks and then moving across the street from the Marcus Majestic in Brookfield/Waukesha. I enjoy teaching children as I believe it's important to introduce music to them at a young age, but I would love to have students of all ages. Contact me for more information!
Students may enter the Suzuki Guitar program beginning at age 5. The Suzuki "Talent Education" method is based on the principle that all children can learn multiple skills in the same natural way that they learn to speak their native language. Just as children learn to speak before they read, Suzuki students learn to listen and produce sounds on their instruments before reading music. Reading music comes only after basic technical skills have been mastered.
Suzuki students progress through a developmentally sequenced repertoire. It is essential that students maintain and reinforce their repertoire through continuous review, just as children retain all the first words in their language vocabulary. They do this by practicing and by listening to a variety of music daily, including recordings of their current repertoire. This process builds musicianship as well as memory, technique, aural skills, stamina, and confidence.
