Great teacher

I had been teaching myself how to play guitar for a few years and felt like I was not making any progress, so I decided to take some lessons. I feel very fortunate that I was able to find Chuck and work with him.

Chuck is a very talented musician and teacher. He communicates and explains musical concepts in a way that's easy to understand. Lessons were challenging, but in a good way, and Chuck is always friendly and supportive. He gave me great recommendations for what to work on in practice and always had listening suggestions that reinforced what we were working on.

I wish that I had started taking lessons with him sooner, because I learned and improved more as a musician and guitarist in 2 months of lessons with Chuck than in the 2-3 years I had been teaching myself how to play. I can't recommend him enough, especially for beginners or someone who needs a little help to take the next step in their musical journey.

The are four basic levels to which I try to develop students' ability. In the beginning, I focus on getting students comfortable with the instrument, showing them some songs they'll have fun with, and developing the dexterity in their hands. You'll get a huge amount of help from in learning songs as I'll give you sheet music, play along with you, and basically talk you through being able to play the song.

Once you're comfortable learning songs with that amount of help, I'll start giving you sheet music and having you take it home and practice, and then go over questions or problems you may have the next week.

When you're able to teach yourself songs from sheet music, then I'll start giving you some easy songs to try to learn by ear. I'll give you some hints in the beginning about what chords are used, or what key the song is in, but eventually I'll take the training wheels off and throw you in the pool, so to speak, and make you learn the songs by ear, and then tell you if you ...

About Derrick

I've been playing the guitar for twenty-six years now, and I've been working as a guitar teacher for the last twenty years. I've been making a living as a guitar teacher in the Boston area for fourteen years now, and I teach in two locations - Brighton and Dedham. Prior to that I also taught at Guitar Attention Center in Springfield, Ohio while I was in college, where I graduated with honors at Wright State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Mass Communications.
I've also played in a variety of original and cover bands, and have written a number of songs of my own. I'm working on recording these as instrumentals in my home studio.
I also play in a rock cover band called Element 78. We play out every weekend, and even on some Sundays. The singer and ...

About Bil

I am one of those individuals for whom teaching is just something that I have to do. I started giving music lessons sometime in the 80€™s and have loved working with all levels of skill and experience. My students say that I am patient, adaptive and encouraging, committed to making music fun.

I have a Masters of Music from New England Conservatory in Jazz Piano and am comfortable and fluent in a number of musical styles, including pop, rock, gospel, traditional hymnody, jazz, and R&B. Although I love and study classical music, it is not something I teach at this point.

In addition to private lessons and performing, I do music transcription, workshops, and all forms of vocal and instrumental arranging. Having served as a church musician for more than 30 years, I ...

His method of teaching is amazing. He makes music accessible and joyful. I feel challenged without being intimidated. This experience is so valuable because of his ability to bring out the musician inside of me and to help me understand why and how to make beautiful sounds.

Bill is a remarkable teacher. After 22 years of not playing I am truly grasping music theory which is opening my ears and hands up to music in a way that I have never experienced. Bill's teaching style is mellow and exciting at the same time, he is clear with the information and can sense when I get it and when I don't. His communication relates so well to tangible examples that I am able to grasp that it is making the learning easy and fun. Bill is quick with praise and kind with corrections.I look forward to seeing him every week.

About George

Music Instruction is the art of helping people demystify music and cultivate the techniques to accurately and beautifully express themselves. It's also showing someone how to strum campfire chords on a guitar and making them laugh in the process. I have over 10 years of teaching experience in a one on one or small group setting and I have had the most success with students above the age of 10 and below the age of 100. Yes, You can learn an instrument. No, You're not too old.

Learning to play music is like learning a trade craft, such as masonry. You need hands on experience and practice, and while YouTube and DVD's can be great assets for the self motivated student they are no replacement for real person to person tutalage. Two very big aspects to becoming a good player ...

The guitar is a fantastic and extremely popular instrument. Many people can pick up a guitar and play a few chords, or sing one song. I strong urge guitarist who come to me to be interested in learning the musician aspects of the guitar as well. Most people who learn to play an instrument have to learn theory, scales, and harmony as well. On the guitar you do not have to learn these things to be able to "play" the instrument but I urge people to because that will show in the music you make.

About Christopher

Welcome! My name is Christopher S. and I am a classical guitarist, song writer, and experienced music teacher. I began learning music when I was nine on the piano however by the time I turned twelve I discovered my passion for the guitar. I began by learning songs and playing in band with some of my school friends. This was the start of my journey into music. I started with blues, rock, and pop music but I quickly moved into more complex genres such as funk and Jazz music.

In college I began my studies of the historically endless and huge world of classical music. This is also when I began teaching and taking students of guitar. I studied classical music at Hofstra University and completed my degree at Humboldt State University in Northern California. After earning my degree I began ...

Noaa R. Jamaica Plain, MA

Playing music is an active, conscious reprogramming of the mind- and I find that approaching this from a place of relaxation, joy, and pleasure ingrains these characteristics into your unique code. It’s a much more effective way of retaining information, finding ease in execution, and finding joy at every step of a process that is so often presented as tedious and difficult.

When we feel overwhelmed by the volume of work we have in front of us, it’s probably because we've lost sight of the fact that we literally can’t do it all at once, and that’s not the point. There is a balance between being and becoming – work on one thing at a time and hear the music in it. Relax with that one passage, with that one scale pattern, and hear how beautiful the small unit is in its simplicity. Find creative ways to alter it, to keep yourself engaged. Break more challenging material into bite-sized portions. When we speak of difficulty, we speak of a lack of familiarity. Together, we can ...

About Noaa

A current student at Berklee College of Music, I have found myself led holistically to teaching by my innate aptitude in areas of communication, interaction, and creativity. I grew up playing everything from punk to fingerstyle to jazz all around California's Bay Area, and had the pleasure of performing with amazing musicians such as Michael Manring and Alex Degrassi (with whom I also studied privately). I continued to receive world-class instruction at Berklee from David Gilmore, Bret Wilmott, Norman Zocher, and others. My background in the physical arts, most notably my studies in freestyle embodiment with movement practitioner and TED presenter Aaron Cantor, informs my approach to learning and teaching as an exploratory process that emphasizes inquiry, presence, pleasure, and ...

This super committed guy is awesome and I can't recommend him enough.
Noaa is not only way skilled and knowledgeable, he is an incredibly effective, patient and adaptive teacher. Having taking lessons from Noaa for about 2 months now, he's helped me make a ton of progress developing my technique, ear and music theory knowledge.
He's a totally chill dude and his easy to understand and digest lessons have left me feeling motivated and inspired every time. His easygoing, friendly personality and serious passion for music is easily apparent and I don't plan on witting lessons with Noaa anytime soon.

have known Noaa for a few years now both as a fellow musician and music teacher. We even shared the stage once in 2011 when we opened up for the infamous punk rock band Agent Orange in Reno N.V. Noaa's musical skill and wisdom has been truly inspiring and I was amazed by his talent when I first met and played with him, and I think he was only seventeen! I was driven to push myself to my full musical potential, and not settle on the idea of "well I'm good enough". A few years later Noaa was home for the summer from Berklee School of Music when I decided it was time for me to learn something knew and Noaa was the guy to help me. I have taken many guitar lessons throughout my life from many teachers, but I've never had a teacher who was so detailed and passionate about their craft. Noaa seems to have this amazing ability to asses a students needs and deliver a comprehensive lesson that the student will understand. I truly felt like he helped me grow and progress as a guitar player and would definitely recommend him.

To whom it may concern:
I have been playing guitar for some 27 years and used to study with serious heavyweights. After a nearly 16 year hiatus from taking lessons I asked a young man who had done studio work at my recording studio, is clearly a skilled guitarist, and who was studying at Berklee College of Music if he could fit in a lesson or two for me as I wanted to transcend my plateau and reach into the higher dimensions of non-diantonic and diatonic real time melodic improvisation. I could not have been more pleased. Noaa was able to customize the material, the style, the pace, and the presentation of advanced theory and application base don my own comments on my own particular learning particularities in real time while we studied without even blinking. His knowledge of theory, technique, the structuring of a path to build on, as well as his pure joy in music itself is comprehensive, infectious, and inspiring. Meanwhile, he let m film him covering some key concepts so that I can review the material in the approximately 2-3 years I expect it to take for me to absorb the material he exposed me to in 4 extended lessons. I would highly, highly recommend him to any player wishing to take their playing to the next level, even advanced players. Feel free to call me with questions about Noaa, as I could go on, but trust me, this cat is for real. Nick Peters Toothless Monkey Music, LLC & BodydeepMusic Studio.
