Favorite Venues for Singing Performances in Los Angeles
By Noah W. - Los Angeles Voice Teacher
For those of us that live in Los Angeles, we are lucky to have an almost endless repository of great musical performances of all kinds happening all over town. As one of the major artistic centers of the US, our city boasts the highest caliber of performing artists in all genres. The artists may reside locally or they may be visiting from anywhere else in the world, but rest assured that any given evening there is an excellent vocal performance going on somewhere in Los Angeles. Whether you are taking singing lessons in Los Angeles or simply looking for a place to hear some good music, the following venues are a few of my favorite places to go for a variety of vocal performances.
First and foremost, one of the best places to see great vocal performances in the city is also one of the most visually striking buildings in the world: Disney Hall. Designed by Frank Gehry and home to the LA Philharmonic, there are many concerts of all types held every season at Disney Hall, and one can always be assured that the performances will be of the highest caliber. It is well worth any music fan’s time to take a look at what concerts are available to attend each season at Disney Hall.
For the greatest rock concerts in the world, look no further than The Greek Theater, majestically located in Griffith Park. The calendar at the Greek reads like a veritable who's who of great artists, both past and present. Any style of vocal performance can be expected to be seen at the Greek. Similar to the Greek is the Hollywood Bowl, an acoustically amazing outdoor amphitheater situated at the foot of the Hollywood Hills. Again, one can expect to hear the finest vocal performances in the world, from rock to jazz to world to Broadway - the Hollywood Bowl is another venue that has it all.
However, Los Angeles doesn't only offer the biggest acts in the world; it also has a thriving community of local musicians that perform nightly in smaller venues - much smaller. One of my favorite places to go for great vocal performances is The Dresden, an old Hollywood throwback that features the legendary Marty and Elayne on a nightly basis. Marty and Elayne have been performing their unique style of lounge music for 30 years. Their covers range throughout popular music history, from old show tunes to radio hits by artists like the Bee Gees and Stevie Wonder. There are also a large number of guest vocalists that sing with them, augmenting their familiar sound with a new musical flavor nearly every time they perform.
Whatever the flavor of vocal performance that you can imagine, LA has it all. If you are taking singing lessons in Los Angeles, go ahead and see for yourself - you'll be glad you did.
