Acting for stage or for camera.
Hello, welcome to my profile and thank you for taking the time to check it out. I am happy to introduce myself to you and share that teaching the performing arts is one of the greatest joys of my life. I am a performing artist and teacher in Los Angeles, teaching a variety of classes from music, dance and theatre. I graduated from San Francisco State University in 2009 where I received a BA in Classical Music, a BA in Dance with a focus in choreography, and a minor in Multi-Cultural Theatre. I have such a strong, well-rounded background in many styles because I value creative exploration. As a vocalist, I studied classical voice since I was 16 years old, trained at SFSU and La Universidad de Catolica in Santiago, Chile and consider that as strong foundation, but always explored ...
With a BA in Acting from London's Central School of Speech and Drama, Crystal has learned to use the nuts and bolts of technique to support freedom in artistic choice. With a focus on stage performance, she works with students to find their own unique approach to acting.
Crystal brings a lifetime’s experience of professional musicianship to each of her lessons. Born into a family of musicians, she sang her first solo at age 2. She also benefits her students with an extraordinarily diverse musical background, having worked as a vocalist in gospel, country, musical theater, jazz, classical, rock, pop and soul styles. Her performing career has taken her from L.A. church meetings to London’s Houses of Parliament. Crystal hails originally from Los Angeles, CA - where her musical parents gave her a head start by including her in the family business the moment she was able to contribute. She went on to study classical voice, piano and music theory at The Boston Conservatory of Music. After concluding her studies in London, she returned home and began working ...
"James helped me so much coaching me through my audition. He helped me understand how to break down my scene and make very specific choices when delivering the lines. I found him to be a perfect balance of critical and encouraging."

As an actor you need two sets of skills: auditioning and on set. These are your base and have to be practiced constantly to succeed.. If you need to practice on a scene for an audition, a workshop, or just brush up on cold read skills I can help. We as actors speak a different language and I make sure to communicate effectively to help your performance.
What sets my lessons apart you'll be learning from a real working actor. You'll be able to learn from someone with over 2,500 set hours, someone who's been there and knows what it's like and also has the teaching experience to create a great classroom environment. I have great training to back it all up as a graduate of the Acting for the Screen from the Colorado Film School
Studied at the Colorado Film School in Denver where I graduated there Acting for the Screen Program and received my certificate in Acting. I focused on film & TV acting under Galina Boulgakova. Beginner-Advanced Acting. Trained in Stella Adler Technique, Meisner Technique, Alexander Technique & Stanislavsky
I have taught all ages, K-12 as well as adults into their 80's.
With more than 7 years' experience as a director in London and the US, I have worked to bring out the best in hundreds of actors from various backgrounds, from beginners to actors with decades of experience in professional theatre and film, including Deborah Ann Woll (True Blood) and Nick Thurston (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes).
With a text-based approach, we will look at how to unlock the playwright's intention and use it to create a natural performance.
I can tailor lessons to your needs, from scene study to audition technique toward more nuanced help with a stage or screen role.

I usually teach beginners to advanced beginners, so if you are just starting out I may be the perfect fit for you. I like to have fun and smile while I'm learning so if that's the kind of teaching style you feel most comfortable with let's get started! I always start with the fundamentals of each art form, so if you are advanced please let me know prior to beginning our lessons.
