Hi, I'm Garret S. For the past 20 years, I've been a successful recording and performing artist, an award-winning singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist (primarily voice, guitar, and bass, but I also play piano, mandolin, and harmonica.) Music has been a faithful friend most of my life. And nothing gives me a greater sense of reward than sharing that gift with others, teaching them these skills I've acquired—much more rapidly, by the way, than I was ever able to learn them myself. It's truly gratifying to see it when a student experiences for the first time what it feels like to express yourself through music. My approach is very intuitive and bypasses the drudgery normally associated with music instruction. You don't need to READ music in order to PLAY music! I teach you to hear it in your head, feel it in your soul, and express it through your hands, your voice, your words. You'll sound better than you ever imagined! Does this happen overnight? Probably not. But with a little effort, it can happen a lot faster than you think.

I attended the Berklee School of Music in Boston, and I have a BA in Music. I am a working pro musician, regularly playing all different kinds of gigs with different bands, as well as solo, and regular gigs on TV. I have taught music lessons, and guitar in particular, for 17 years. I play all styles, but my favorites are Rock, R&B, Country, Rockabilly, and Blues (I also enjoy playing jazz, classical, and other styles as well). My main instruments are guitar (electric and acoustic) and voice, but I play keyboards, bass, mandolin, and drums also.

Hi, I'm Glenn. Thank you for viewing my profile. I've been teaching students for over 20 years, playing all styles and levels of music, from day-one beginners to seasoned pros seeking to sharpen their playing skills. I teach both traditional notation and tablature, writing my own teaching methods in both formats. I can transcribe any song or solo for you, and can arrange the music to fit your particular level of skill.
I earned a B.A. in Music Composition and an A.A. in music theory, and have worked as a professional musician since graduation. I play in a variety of bands that cover rock, jazz, surf, oldies, and country, and also write and arrange music for those bands as well as writing my own music that can be heard on my own Youtube channel.
The first song I learned to play was "Pipeline." I own and play several acoustic and electric guitars, as well as ukuleles, mandolins, bass guitars, and lap steel guitars. I'm personable and patient, and my lessons include songs, techniques, and instruction for improving your musical skills. I look forward to meeting you and having fun learning and playing music together.

I've been playing music my whole life, but it was as a high school student when I was asked to teach the school's guitar class that I became a teacher. Since that time I've gone on to earn several awards, played in many different types of projects, and earned a Master's degree. You might have heard my music before too if you've ever listened to a podcast, TV commercials, indy films, or played any video games. My most successful student thus far however, would have to be Jacob Tilley from the rock band Young the Giant.
Not everybody wants to be a rock star though, and there are many aspects to the world of music. During the course of my musical adventure I've played with orchestras, been in rock, bluegrass, reggae, pop and blues bands, classical ensembles and more. I have also had the opportunity to play for celebrities and diplomats. Basically I've done a little of everything and I believe that it is this diversity of experiences that makes me a better teacher. Having worked in so many settings gives me a broad understanding that I use to help you reach whatever goals you might have.
I have also become adept at writing, recording and producing music, studying under Frank Wright of the legendary rock band Chicago. If you have an interest in creating and/or recording music I can definitely help you get there! Check out my chill/downtempo instrumental album 'Night Music' by Kparx online.

I have been happily playing music for over 12 years now and it has always been the light in my day. Now it is my hope to shed that same light onto you or your child. I am a very friendly and fun teacher with a great deal of professionalism and patience, even more importantly I LOVE teaching and I LOVE music with a passion. I have been playing an instrument since the 4th grade (cello) and, as I learned how music works, was slowly able to pick-up a greater variety instruments with an increasing degree of ease. In high school, I decided to pick-up the guitar just to "have fun and rock out". I joined a band, played in the high school orchestra, joined the high school jazz band and began to practice songwriting and cover songs - at this point, guitar had become my primary instrument. Still, it was not until after I took my first class on music theory that I knew how much I not only loved the thrill of playing music but the discovery of how it worked. With this experience I can show you or your child why learning an instrument can be not only an exciting experience but an interesting and enthralling one as well.
I have been teaching music for 4 years and have had experience with children as young as 5 to adults in their late 80s. I am a very attentive teacher who can not only help get you moving in the right direction but keep you on that path until your are a self-sufficient musician. A status that allows you to learn what you want on your instrument by yourself, whether it be for business, pleasure or for mere self-improvement.
I have had the chance to study with graduates of the Musician’s Institute (MI), the California Institute of the Arts (CAL Arts) and Berklee College of Music. This has given me an inside look into how and what each institute teaches, as well as a first hand look at the techniques and ideas that the great players from these remarkable schools have come to produce.
My formal music education consists of 2 years at Pasadena City College where I obtained my general Associates Degree (much of the studies included music) and a semester at California State University Long Beach as a Jazz Guitar Performance Major. Additionally I have taken a great deal of classes in California State University Long Beach's teaching credential program, where I learned strategies and theories of how and what to teach my students - making me that much more effective at my craft. At Pasadena City College I studied with jazz/classical guitarist, Ron Berman, who has played with such jazz greats as Herb Ellis and Jimmy Wyble. At Cal State Long Beach I studied with jazz guitarist Ron Eschete, a former teacher at MI who has toured with the likes of Ray Brown, John “Dizzy” Gillespie and Jim Hall.
Most importantly I hope to show you or your child a new way to love and appreciate music. And to provide you with the ability to have the most fun on your instrument as possible.
I am also part of Takelessons new Skype lessons program (lessons that take place on the internet via Skype) for those looking for a more convenient or affordable way to take music lessons from home.
