I am offering singing lessons using a natural, easy-to-understand, experience-based holistic and scientific method. The aim is to freely express the natural and style-free voice, which can be consciously applied to any musical style. Sing with ease, energized and flowing breath, solid technique, resonance, projection, diction, range and poise. No previous experience is necessary. Adults and children of all ages, voice types, backgrounds and levels from beginner to professional are welcome.
I taught singers from such diverse backgrounds as opera, musical theater, pop, soul, R&B, bluegrass, rock, heavy metal and public speaking. I taught voice at The Boston Conservatory, also at The Quincy Point Music Academy and A Street Music in Quincy, Massachusetts. I am a member of Boston Singers' Resource as singer and voice teacher/coach, and maintain studios in Somerville and Quincy.
Described by The Times Herald-Record, New York, as a "firm bass- baritone", and by The Boston Musical Intelligencer as "outstanding dramatically and musically", I am a classical singer with international credits, at home in diverse genres from opera to art song, Broadway to The American Songbook, spirituals to jazz and pop. I am also a professional drummer, pianist and instructor. I enjoy teaching, and view it as making music together in a class setting. Lessons are both disciplined and fun.
Recent highlights include the roles of The Master and Yefim in the U.S.-premiere of the opera "Desire to Sleep" by Moshe Shulman; the narrator in the world-premiere of "Experience" in English by Phivos-Angelos Kollias; world-premieres of "Missa Patri ...
Hi! I am excited to work with students of all ages and levels, and I am here to help you unlock the treasury of our music together. I'm devoted to passing on the joy of music-making to performers of any age, whether you are passionate about musical theater, classical music, popular music, or just for the fun of making music.
As a soloist, I am a frequent performer throughout the Northeast. This season's performances include engagements with Lowell House Opera, Opera Brittenica, Cantata Singers, Opera Providence, and concerts and TV appearances with the award-winning folk music group Voice of the Turtle, as well as numerous recitals. As a classical collaborative singer, I've performed in a choral setting with the New York Philharmonic, the Dresden Philharmonic, the ...
Singing is one of the most challenging and rewarding areas of musical performance. It's so personal and expressive that a lot of us feel uncomfortable approaching the voice at all. I've been singing and performing for over a decade. Using proper breathing technique and customized warm-ups I can help you become the best possible singer you can be! The first step is always the hardest but I am confident that we can do it!
I eat/breathe/sleep music. From writing and conducting my first A Capella piece in high school to playing in bands that have toured around the world (The Fates, Ben Levin Group), I am a music machine! I value nothing more than finding that passion in others and working together to turn musical fantasies into realities.
From grade school to high school I took rigorous classical piano lessons. In 2006-07 I attended two summer programs at Berklee College of Music where I studied jazz/rock performance, and continued to study jazz piano at Washington University.
At Boston University, I studied classical music composition/theory, and was accepted to for a dual degree in Music Composition, Psychology, but decided to pursue music as a minor in order to allow more time for gigging. Since ...
I believe anyone can learn to sing, and that learning to sing should be fun. No snobbery, no stress, just the joy of freeing your natural instrument (through solid fundamentals and healthy technique) to express what you want to express!
Hi! I am a conservatory graduate with degrees in Vocal Performance (BM, Oberlin Conservatory, MM, Boston Conservatory.) I have studied vocal pedagogy at both the undergraduate and graduate level, and have experience teaching and coaching students of all ages. As a pianist, I work in the Boston area as an accompanist, keyboardist, and music director, mainly in musical theater, so I am familiar with coaching singers in that style as well.
I believe that any singing style (classical, musical theater, jazz, pop, etc.) can benefit from a solid technical foundation based in breath, flexibility, and speech-to-singing connection. Although my singing background is in opera, my goal is to teach students to use good technique to free themselves to be comfortable and expressive in any style ...
I have been interested in music for as long as I can remember. I began taking piano lessons when I was six and started auditioning for musicals at eight. I fell in love with performing, and my passion has grown into a career path. I began studying voice privately when I was in thirteen. Music and performing have brought so much joy to my life, and I love to help others develop and cultivate their own passion for music.
I recently received my Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance from the New England Conservatory. I also hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Vocal Performance from DePaul University. During undergrad, I was able to study abroad for a semester in Vienna, Austria where I performed in an opera workshop. I have spent two summers on Cape Cod singing with the College ...
This is my eighth year teaching voice. I have a very holistic approach, concentrating on the whole body and how it works successfully to produce a good sound. Musicianship is important at any age, and we work on solfege paired with the Vaccai (a series of short classical songs) to achieve that.
It's my goal that my students be well-rounded, self-evaluating musicians who above all feel a connection to their music and a love for whatever level they are capable of.
I'm a Berklee educated musician with ten year experience teaching ages two and up in the Boston area. Over the years, I've taught private and group lessons, have been the music director for various musicals, choirs and handbell groups, and have also spent time as a tutor and preschool teacher!
My teaching philosophy is a simple one: I believe everyone has music in them. Growing up, I had a lot of teachers who were strict, stubborn, and unhelpful. It's easy to crush a person's spirit when they open up to you musically, and it's been my goal to only foster and encourage people who are ready to start their musical journey. I form the lesson around YOU: what songs you want to learn, what goals you have for your music, and what aspects you want to learn.
"Steven is very professional and extremely helpful. He always has a smile on and is serious about helping you phrase the music. I would highly recommend him to anyone."
"It's been really exciting so far! Jordan has been so helpful, so knowledgeable. I could not have found a better instructor and I'm getting better and better every day."
"My daughter's wedding was weeks away and I had never been able to dance a step. With Jenny's help, I came further than ever before in such short time in any subject."
