About Me

Hello!

I offer lessons to the north Dallas/Ft. Worth area. I received my Bachelor's degree in Music specializing in classical guitar in 2011. In addition, 10 years of experience playing rock, blues, folk, and alternative styles with electric and acoustic guitars allows me to confidently enjoy playing and teaching these styles as well. I can teach you or your child the skills needed to pursue hobbies or serious musical goals! Personal enjoyment, gigs, performances, recitals, university auditions, or just playing for your friends. My mission is to help you to achieve your own unique goals in an encouraging environment where you or your child feel free to ask questions and set the pace of the lesson. When you meet me it will be clear immediately that I'm not an intimidating person and I honestly want you or your child to feel comfortable and enjoy learning from me. If you are a beginner, great! No bad habits yet. If you already have experience, great! We'll fix those bad habits, if needed, and take your playing to a higher level.

Some of my accomplishments include:

Performing in Master Classes for virtuosic classical guitarists such as Michael Partington, Andrew Zohn and Richard Savino.

Performing solo and group repertoire at a concert level with classical guitar.

I am well versed in western music theory ranging from Ancient to Modern.

Passed examinations in sight reading, transposition, scales and performance for guitar, percussion and keyboard instruments.

Various band gigs with electric and steel string acoustic guitar. I also played drum set. Not at the same time.

*** Lesson Details ***

No two of my lessons are exactly the same. Each lesson is tailored and modified to meet the needs and desires of each student. I want to figure out who you are and where you want to go musically and use that as a foundation to build lessons on. I teach with a laid back style and never yell or scold. The more comfortable you feel during the lesson the more we can get accomplished. The perfect lesson environment is one in which you or your child feel free to ask questions and play an active role in the learning experience.

I use the Aaron Shearer and Suzuki method books, primarily, for classical guitar lessons. These books help you develop your technique and theory. At the same time, we integrate various songs and pieces at your discretion that are appropriate for the current level of playing and that appeal to you personally. For rock, blues, folk, country, etc. I have various technique books to get us moving along until we know which direction you want to go.

*** Studio Equipment ***
private studio w/ 2 classical guitars, an electric guitar, an acoustic guitar, a computer with internet access and printer, box w/ amp, and seating for parents

Ben H. Euless, TX

Subjects Taught

Acoustic Guitar, Bluegrass Guitar, Blues Guitar, Classical Guitar, Composition, Country Guitar, Ear Training, Guitar, Mandolin, Music Performance, Music Theory, Singing, Songwriting

About Me

Hello, my name is Ben and GUITAR IS MY BUSINESS...AND MY BUSINESS IS GOOD so please consider me. I've been playing guitar for over 18 years and have been in playing bands for 12 years. Recently after the band broke up, I decided to further my education and went to Musicians Institute in Hollywood California. There I was taught by the best guitar players in the world. Marty Friedman, Paul Gilbert, Scott Henderson, Tommy Emmanuel and Johnny Hiland were just a few of the great players who gave clinics there. I received a degree in Guitar Performance and the knowledge I received there made me UNDERSTAND the mystery that is the guitar.

I can teach Rock/Metal, Country (lead and rhythm), Blues, Alternative, Acoustic, Classical, Chord Melody, Melodic Soloing, Twang, Chords, Scales, Modes, Many different lead and rhythm techniques and more importantly any song you want to go over.

I feel learning to play your favorite songs is the most important and the most fun about guitar playing. After playing songs, some of the information given (scales, chords, theory, ear-training) starts to make some since and you begin to slowly figure the guitar out.

Theory and Ear-training I feel are very important to learn when trying to understand music. It just gives you a basic mathematical way of understanding how music works. It can be very frustrating to learn and takes some time to sink in so if you don't want to learn it then that is great. Ear-training is cool because when you start to understand it you can actually hear music and not just listen to it. You can listen to a chord progression on the radio and go home and play it and also improvise over it.

I encourage BEGINNERS through EXPERT to at least hear what I have to say. I have A LOT of information to give about the guitar. I played for ten years made 2 demo CDs, one full length album, another demo specifically for Metal Blade Records, was in a big cover band and so I thought I knew it all and was a great guitar player. Then I went to GUITAR SCHOOL in Hollywood and reality hit me.
I wasn't as good as I thought. When you hear the best guitar players in the world everyday for a year and a half like I did at Musicians Institute it makes you want to be better and practice, practice, practice. I learned everything there about guitar and music and I know the Right way to teach.

Please consider me for your guitar teacher I will make it fun and a good learning experience as well.

Thank you,
Ben

*** Lesson Details ***
It depends on what level the student is on and that is where we will go with the lesson. If you are a beginner we will start with the very basics. I try to make it to where you can easily understand everything taught. The most important part of the lesson is you are having fun with playing the guitar and also getting as much information as possible. Upper level students may want to go over a song they are learning or want to know about theory or chords. Usually we will talk about where you are at with your playing and then go from there.

Thanks.

Ray M. Arlington, TX

Subjects Taught

Banjo, Bass Guitar, Classical Guitar, Flamenco Guitar, Guitar, Mandolin, Music Performance, Music Theory, Piano, Songwriting, Ukulele

About Me

Born in Arlington, Texas, I began playing guitar and bass guitar in high school. After studying for several years under Joey Faust, I studied Jazz, Classical Guitar, and Music Theory at TCC in Fort Worth. I've been teaching since 2003, my students ranging in age from 3 to over 70. I also play piano, mandolin, banjo, ukulele, and autoharp.

*** Lesson Details ***
I believe lessons should be fun, so all lessons are tailored to the individual student, based on the student's interests and goals. Students are free to progress at their own pace, and to choose their own learning material. Styles and techniques include Rock, Country, Blues, Bluegrass, Jazz, Shred, Slide Guitar, Classical Guitar, and Slap Bass, to name a few.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons in my home studio are definitely more beneficial to the student, because I have all my toys here! Besides having all of my other instruments here for demonstrations, or being able to freely change between electric or acoustic guitar for example, I have access to my computer and all of my teaching materials.
I also find that students who are at home (especially the children) tend to be more distracted, whether it's from lack of privacy due to the area chosen for the lessons, or often (again, this goes especially for the kids) there are pets that they like to play with while I'm trying to talk to them.
When they're guests in my home, however, I find I have their strict attention.

*** Specialties ***
I am primarily a guitar player specializing in electric lead guitar and solo acoustic guitar/vocal performance. I also teach advanced bass guitar, primarily finger-style. In addition I teach slap style bass guitar, as well as slide guitar.

Subjects Taught

Acoustic Guitar, Arrangement and Composition, Audio Engineering, Bass Guitar, Blues Guitar, Classical Guitar, Classical Piano, Composition, Country Guitar, Film Scoring, Guitar, Music Performance, Music Recording, Music Theory, Piano, Pro Tools Software, Songwriting, Synthesizer, Ukulele

About Me

11 years ago, I picked up a guitar and began my life-long pursuit of music. This pursuit has led me in a wide variety of directions. Today, I am the worship leader for Living Life Church, a private guitar instructor at Covenant Christian Academy and Creative Guitar Learning, a freelance producer, film-composer, performing musician, and teacher. Some of my credits and projects are available on my LinkedIn profile and my Reverbnation profile.

I have a passion for a wide variety of styles of music. For several years, I was the lead guitarist, singer, and songwriter for multiple independent bands, the most notable being an indie psychedelic band called Tod The Fox. I have led worship for Grace Fellowship UMC, Brazos Pointe Church, Bear Creek Community Church, The Cornerstone College Ministry at UTA, and the BSM at UTA in varying capacities. At UTA, I studied Jazz and Classical guitar under acclaimed guitarists Sam Walker and Billy Robertson. Here, I also studied theory, piano, sight-singing, and music-production extensively. I graduated Magna Cume Laude with a Bachelor of Music-Media from UTA. I have also played bass guitar for several contract gigs and performances.

My teaching style varies from student to student. Music is a wonderfully diverse subject and every student has his own aspirations. I will do my best to cater each lesson to the student's goals and interests. Whether that is classical guitar method, shredding electric guitar solos, jazz, folk, country, or anything in between.

A few of my favorite artists include: Michael Gungor, Joe Pass, Andrew Bird, Chopin, Led Zeppelin, Glen Hansard, and Radiohead.

*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons will vary significantly from student to student. Not only does every student have different goals in mind, they all learn differently as well. I do my best to customize my lessons for each student's goals and needs. A typical guitar, bass, or piano lesson may involve music-reading, chord studies, technical work, scale practice, and theory.

I consider myself a healthy balance between professional and light-hearted. As much as I want to make efficient use of the lesson-time, my primary goal is for the student to truly understand and enjoy music.

I have worked hard to be a flexible musician and teacher. I am competent in jazz, rock, classical, contemporary, blues, worship, etc., and will be happy to teach any (or all) of these styles to any student.

*** Studio Equipment ***
My at-home studio includes:

- Stools
- A keyboard
- Recording equipment
- Internet access
- A printer
- A library of music resources
- Multiple guitars
- A bass guitar
- Double input amplifier

*** Travel Equipment ***
- Travel Music Stand
- Metronome/Tuner/Recorder
- Guitar and accessories
- Bass and accessories
- Notebooks/binders
- Staff Paper
- Tablature
- Multiple theory/technique/music books

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in contemporary, rock, blues, and worship guitar. But I also have extensive experience in jazz and classical guitar.

For piano, I teach beginner to intermediate level students in a variety of genres. I use piano on a daily basis for composing, arranging, and performing.

For bass, I can also teach a variety of genres. I specialize in blues/rock/contemporary but have experience in classical and jazz bass as well.

***DISCLAIMER***
Although my travel radius says 10 miles, I am very open to trying to work lessons out that are somewhat outside of that radius. As a full-time musician/teacher I travel all over the metroplex for different gigs/jobs throughout the week, so it's completely possible that I am in your part of town on certain days and it wouldn't be a problem for me to stop by for a lesson. If you are outside of my preferred radius and would like to request a lesson with me, simply contact TakeLessons and let them know and they will e-mail me the request. Also, keep in mind that if it is far enough outside of my usual commute i may still be able to take the lesson, but need to ask for a higher rate.
