Subjects Taught

Audition Prep, Broadway Singing, Classical Voice, Gospel Singing, Jazz Voice, Musical Theater, Music Performance, Music Theory, Opera Voice, Piano, Singing, Speaking Voice, Vocal Training, Voice Acting

About Me

Sheena R., recently praised in the New York times as "a light, perky soprano", has appeared in numerous operatic roles and song recitals. A graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, she had the opportunity to work with world-renowned voice pedagogue Richard Miller as an assistant at the Otto B Schoepfle Vocal Arts Center. She completed her Graduate Study at the New England Conservatory, and had the great privilege to study with James McDonald and John Moriarty. She sang the Soprano Solo in Brahms' Requiem under the baton of choral icon Sir David Willcocks, as well as Zerlina in the Boston Opera Collaborative production of Don Giovanni. During her time in Boston she was also fortunate enough to sing for Renee Fleming and perform in the Boston premier of Steve Reich's Daniel Variations as one of four vocal soloists. She lived in New Orleans, where she was affiliated with the Louisiana Academy of the Performing Arts. She maintained a private studio of nearly 60 students, and helped them prepare for recitals, auditions, musicals, and choral performances. Since moving to New York in 2010 she has performed over 12 roles with Light Opera of New York, The Blue Hill Troupe, and Amore Opera, among others.

*** Lesson Details ***
I have taught students at all levels, and cater my lessons to meet the students individual needs. For voice lessons, I teach classical technique (relying heavily on the training of classic pedagogues such as Lamperti, but also more recent teachers like Richard Miller) which I have found can translate well to any vocal style (jazz, musical theater, pop, etc.). A strong foundation in breath support, proper vowel articulation, sustaining exercises, and vocal agility make up the majority of my teaching method. Once the technical ground work has been set, I spend about half of the lesson working on vocal exercises and half working on repertoire.

For piano, I like to use the Faber method books, which I have found to be the best combination of theory and execution. Each student will spend equal time on lesson work, technique, theory, and performance preparation. I work most often with younger beginning students, teaching them proper posture, five finger positions, and simple melodic concepts. I am very patient, and love to see the progress that even a 4 or 5 year old will see in just a few lessons.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Living Room, 88 weighted keyboard, amplified, sofa, parents can wait in same room

*** Travel Equipment ***
For the first lesson I can provide recommended books, but after that I would like the student to provide their own materials.

*** Specialties ***
Classical voice performance is my strong point.

Daniel C. New York, NY

Subjects Taught

Audition Prep, Broadway Singing, Choir, Classical Voice, Country Singing, Jazz Voice, Musical Theater, Music Performance, Music Theory, Opera Voice, Singing, Speaking Voice, Stage Performance, Vocal Training, Voice Acting

About Me

Daniel was most recently described by Tim Page with the Washington Post as a “funny, exuberant and enormously likable” Papageno during Summer Opera Theater’s performance of The Magic Flute. Previously, the Post critiqued Daniel in Opera Theatre of Northern Virginia’s Barber of Seville as a “bright and bouncy” Figaro who delivered his lines with “aplomb.” Daniel has performed as a young artist in the Studio Programs of El Paso Opera, Kentucky Opera and Portland Opera. He has sung the roles of Sharpless in Madama Butterfly, Sid in Albert Herring, Figaro in The Marriage of Figaro, Belcore in L’elisir d’amore, Jupiter in Orphée aux enfers, Dr. Falke in Die Fledermaus, Bottom in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Masetto in Don Giovanni, Schaunard in La Boheme, the Clock in L’Enfant et les Sortileges, Mandarin in Turandot and Haushofmeister in a world premiere of Dorian Gray. Daniel has had the distinct pleasure of singing with The Metropolitan Opera, Washington National Opera, Fort Worth Opera, Kentucky Opera, Bel Cantanti Opera, Amarillo Opera, Crested Butte Opera, Opera Southwest, Waco Lyric Opera, Concert Royal, Ash Lawn Opera Festival and Seagle Music Colony. He was a finalist for Dallas and El Paso Opera Guild Competitions, the NATS Singer of the Year Competition and the NATSAA National Competition. Daniel resides in New York City and is a doctoral student of Shirley Close at Florida State University.

Adrielle B. New York, NY

Subjects Taught

Acting, Broadway Singing, Opera Voice, Singing, Speaking Voice

About Me

Hi there! My name is Adrielle and I am a classically trained singer that specializes in Opera, Musical Theatre, Jazz, Pop-Rock and R&B! I love performing, teaching-and watching my students reach all of their musical hopes and dreams-and I hope to sing with you, very soon! I graduated from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy: College and Conservatory of the Performing Arts in Manhattan, and have since landed starring roles in shows like Dreamgirls and High School Musical (the musical)! I am also the Founder, Executive and Artistic Director of a non-profit musical theatre program. My program was recently named as one of the Peak Performing Arts Classes for children in the Tri-State area, in Time Out New York Magazine!

I offer a fun and personalized approach, which fosters a love of music and singing through a supportive and easy-going learning environment.

I can provide you with effective learning tools that not only stem from my professional performance experience, but that are based in my extensive training on the anatomy of the voice, vocal pedagogy, music theory and music composition. I truly believe that anyone can learn how to sing at a professional level, when given the proper tools, the right teacher-and a ton of practice and encouragement!

*** Lesson Details ***
In my voice studio, my students will develop and maintain strong vocal technique, which will allow them to tackle and master any material-whether it be Pergolesi or Pop-Rock!

In 3-6 months, a beginner student will have mastered diaphragmatic breathing, have a basic knowledge of the anatomy of the voice and will be more aware of the physicality and placement required to produce the various tones and vocal styling. My students will have increased flexibility in the voice, breath control and range.

All of my students work on classical repertoire to some extent, in order to strengthen their head voice. Even if you don't have dreams of Carnegie Hall- the skills and parts of your voice that singing classical aria's will develop will also help you to belt out the high notes in more contemporary material!

I also incorporate ear-training and basic music theory into lessons in order to build musicianship, and prevent the common problems with intonation- or, as they say on American Idol, being "pitchy".

I will push you beyond your 'walls' or self-imposed limitations. I will require you (regardless of age!) keep an at-home practice-log and to dedicate at least 2 hours of vocal practice per week. That is easily accomplished with just 20 minutes of vocalizing every day!

I am very fun and laid-back- however, my voice studio is also a no-excuses zone. I want you to get your money's worth and to be constantly improving-so I will hold you accountable for a lack of preparation in between lessons, or otherwise slacking off! Whether this is a hobby or a profession, it's important to tap into that passion and always try your best!

I am as dedicated to my voice students as I am to my own career, and will be with you every step of the way until you master the art of singing!

**Please bring a recording device to all lessons in order to maximize learning!

*** I have a wonderful cat named Pop Tart at my Home Studio, who loves meeting new people! If you have allergies, please schedule lessons at my 72nd street location!

**Please note: I am not an accompanist. If you would like to sing a particular song with full accompaniment, please come prepared with a Taping of your song, or email tracks in advance. I do read music, and am able to help you with any problematic melodies/rhythms on my Keyboard.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Keyboard
USB Microphone/Laptop software recording capabilities
Guitar
Professional Camera for recording Reels etc.
Extensive Collection of Sheet Music

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in beginner to advanced classical and contemporary vocal coaching for ages 7 and up!
