About Me

Hi! My name is Beckie and I have played music for all of my life. I play many different instruments such as the Trumpet, French horn and Piano. I graduated from Chapman University in 2010 with 2 degrees in music, Music Education and Music Performance on French horn. I also taught elementary school for 3 years and was a brass coach for a Montessori Academy. I have taught privately for 10 years now and love the one-on-one attention that I can give the students. I currently work for the Los Angeles Philharmonic, I perform with two different orchestras and am in a Brass Ensemble called the Vine Street Brass that performs for events around the city.

I look forward to working with your or your child in helping to start or continue a musical instrument!

*** Lesson Details ***
When I teach lessons, I like to go at the pace of the student. I am very patient but I expect the student to practice during the week. I will always work with a student as long as it takes to have them understand what is difficult for them musically. I use a lot of different books like Teaching little fingers to Play and Standard of Excellence. For Adults, I like the Big Beginners Piano book which has easy classical pieces to play! I teach from the rudimentary skills and build on the fundamentals of music. After 3 or 6 months, my students feel accomplished with what they have learned and excited for the next 3 to 6 months!

*** Studio Equipment ***
practice space in home w/ seating for parents and music stand. I also have a cat and a dog, so if you are allergic, please let me know! The cat and dog are always put away during the lesson time.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I have one music stand. I expect the student to provide the music books and their own instruments.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in classical genres of playing.

Troy S. Fountain Valley, CA

Subjects Taught

Flugelhorn, French Horn, Music Performance, Music Recording, Music Theory, Trumpet, Tuba

About Me

Music began for me extremely young ( age 4 ) first with piano, then with trumpet and saxophone. During High School my specialty changed to Trumpet and focused on that instrument.

During my time playing I have enjoyed being a section leader and playing for many great ensembles that bridged many genres including Classical, Jazz, Rock, Funk, Blues, Pop, as well as Orchestral.

My teachers have included many trumpet professionals including Barry Perkins and Dave Evans. I have also been influenced by and attended masterclasses by Wayne Bergeron and Malcolm McNab among others.

I have made the focus of my life music and I love playing and teaching music and I love meeting new people.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a current enrolled Trumpet Performance student at CSUF and I perform with some of the top ensembles in the school. I have taught lessons with all ages ranging from age 5 to age 62. My experience with trumpet is extensive and I am ready to help you with any aspect of your playing no matter if it's range, endurance, flexibility, literature, or anything else! I have also taught instruments other than trumpet including French Horn, Baritone, Euphonium, and Tuba.

All of my lessons are individually tailored to fit the student that I work with so it is hard to let you know exactly what to expect. My teaching style also may slightly change depending on my students age, activity, and attention level. Expect to learn the fundamentals first (but in an interesting way like playing duets or tunes instead of just exercises), then moving on to more advanced techniques.

I can help with school based literature and assignments for your music classes to help you be the first chair in your band!

Some methods you may expect to see me use are: Arban, Stamp (done correctly), Schlossberg, Clark, and many etude books just to name a few.

All in all I am a fun teacher who loves working with anyone to help them improve on whatever they need and want to improve on!

*** Specialties ***
I can play any style and teach any including Broadway musical book type performance. I do specialize some in classical performance.

Miranda S. Los Angeles, CA

Subjects Taught

French Horn, Piano

About Me

With a recent Masters Degree from the University of Southern California in Music Performance, I enjoy performing music as well as teaching both new and transfer students! I grew up in a musical family, playing piano since the age of 5, and French Horn since I was 9. I have been teaching for many years while earning my Bachelors and Masters degrees, as well as the last two years since I graduated.

Lessons involve a well-rounded education in reading music, music theory, and music history. Students and parents can tailor the lessons to their own needs and wants, and repertoire can range from Classical to Pop music depending on the client.

The reason I teach is to provide access to music to anyone who wishes to make it a part of their lives in whatever way they like, I make sure the student has fun while learning a skill that can benefit them for the rest of their lives.

*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons are tailored to each specific student, and since no two students are alike, neither are they ways they learn best! My main goal in lessons are for the students to have fun while learning a skill they will have for the rest of their lives. I make sure that music theory is taught from the very beginning in order to give the student a well rounded musical education. We will work out of lesson books ranging from technique and classical, to popular and jazz.

I allow each student to grow in the direction they choose in order for them to get the most out of each of their lessons. This means that I listen very closely to what the client wants to get out of their lessons, and am very flexible to adjust things in order for the student to have fun and learn at the same time.

Along with repertoire I like to use flashcards, matching games, and I even have a music board game I created that is especially fun for children ages 8-15!

*** Studio Equipment ***
I do most of my teaching at the clients' homes, but I do have a large keyboard for piano lessons, and a music stand for French horn lessons.

*** Travel Equipment ***
For piano lessons, the student should preferably have a piano, but a keyboard works as well.

For French horn lessons, the student should have or rent a French horn as well as own a music stand.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in Classical music and theory.

Brian B. North Hills, CA

Subjects Taught

French Horn, Music Performance, Trombone, Trumpet, Tuba

About Me

I am a middle school band and orchestra teacher and brass musician with performance experience on horn, trumpet, and euphonium, as well as voice. Some of the ensembles I have performed with include the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Masters Orchestra, and Crown City Symphony. I also coordinate the Los Angeles Hornsaplenty Christmas event and invite my students to participate in it as well as TubaChristmas in Los Angeles or Anaheim, because if you don't enjoy playing your instrument, you shouldn't keep playing it!

I hold a BA in music education and a teaching credential from California State University in Northridge, and have studied with Roy Poper (studio trumpeter), David Washburn (trumpet for California Philharmonic and LA Chamber Orchestra), and Brian O'Connor (studio hornist). For this reason, I tend to favor methods from James Stamp and Vincent De Rosa, but feel that every lesson plan should be tailored to the individual student's needs.

With nearly a decade of teaching experience in the Los Angeles Unified School District, I have guided many students in playing various instruments and continue to dedicate my time and energy to refining my instructional delivery so that it makes the trickiest concepts clear in the students' mind.

*** Lesson Details ***
Online lessons are available through Face Time and are conducted while I am in my home studio where there will be a solid internet connection.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Home Studio: Music stand, keyboard, metronome, tuner, sound equipment, and supportive chairs for the student and teacher. Parents may wait in the living room, which has a TV.

School Studio: Music stands, keyboard, metronome, tuner, sound equipment, and supportive chairs for the student, family members, and student. I can also do small group lessons in this studio.

Students are expected to bring their own instrument and any method books or sheet music they seek help with. I have a number of method books and exercise books as well which I can introduce the student to before deciding if they should get their own copy to study from.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Folding music stand, metronome, tuner.
