Zarni d. Seattle, WA

Songwriting is one of my favorite things to teach. If you believe that it 'cannot be taught' I would say that I would've agreed with prior to my 5 years at Berklee studying Songwriting. If you can study writing and poetry, you can certainly learn how to communicate your emotional thoughts in a more poetic and poignant way. There are so many tools out there I never would have guessed and I use them daily in my own songwriting

About Zarni

Hello!
My name is Zarni and I am a recent graduate from the Berklee College of Music with a Bachelors in Music Education and Songwriting. During my time at Berklee I received two scholarships, The Korg Endowed for Early Childhood Education and the Scott Benson Scholarship, the highest award given for Songwriting. Most recently I won Most Promising Music Educator Award in the Choral department, an award given by the Dean of the Berklee College of Music.
I am just as passionate about writing, listening to, learning and analyzing the popular music that you listen to!
I have taught in several different environments. I taught for two years at the West End Boys and Girls Club (an after school program for teens ages 10-18) as a vocal and piano teacher. I also started a songwriting program ...

My son Mike took lessons from Matt for 2 years and really enjoyed it. He and Mike really hit it off. Matt has very advanced active listening skills and really tunes in to providing his students with a positive learning experience. Matt's passion is music, and he wears it on his sleeve. He has quit his "day job" and totally dedicated himself to music. When he isn't teaching, he's either learning or playing somewhere. Thank you Matt for being such a positive influence on Mike's life

Great Teacher!

Katie Ilen is an amazing singer with a knack for teaching. She is patient, kind, informative and highly skilled. My daughter loves her and talks about her all the time. After taking lessons with Katie my daughter has gotten so much better it is surprising. Katie also incorporates recording into her lessons and now we have 2 adorable recordings of my daughter singing. Priceless! Highly recommended!
Larry B. Woodinville, WA

I have been a songwriter for 40 years, writing in a number of styles for television (NBC) and Showtime. I've also had a children's musical that is being done by theatres around the country.

About Larry

I've been a professional singer and teacher for over 40 years with a B.M.E. degree in music education and a M.A. in Vocal Performance. A long-standing member of the Nat. Assn of Teachers of Singing. I work with a variety of styles from classical to pop, country, jazz, and Broadway. My students are currently performing in some major theatres and with top name musicians. I honestly believe "anyone can learn to sing" and take students from "pitch-challenged" to pros who want to tweak their voice. I have demo videos to show how my lessons work.

Larry is a great teacher. His professionalism, enthusiasm and experience speak volumes. He is very approachable and easy to work with. My technique has improved enormously since I started taking lessons with him because I find it easy to understand concepts when he explains them. In addition, Larry teaches in a fully equipped studio, so you can record your work and really hear how you're doing. I cannot say enough to recommend him!

I have been with Larry since 2000 when I first started doing musical theater. From the start I was amazed by Larry's beautiful voice and vocal knowledge. Larry is very talented in keeping students engaged and best of all his teaching style is molded around the students needs. Since starting with Larry I have delved into so many different styles including Broadway, classical, blues, rock, music performance, songwriting, and even audition prep. Over the past fourteen years Larry hasn't just become my vocal teacher, he has become a lifelong friend, and I look forward to every lesson I have with him.

We were very lucky to find Larry. At the age of eight years, my son got his first lead in a musical play ("Oliver"). Since that time, year after year, through junior high and high school he continued to get the lead character in musicals. Larry also helped Chris win First Place in Puget Sound NATs vocal competition during his Sophomore, Junior and Senior years in high school. His vocal performances did not stop there but continued into many genera such as classical, rock, soul, Reggie, R&B etc. Chris is now 21 years of age and often takes the lead his the Pomona Men's blue and white A Capella group. Whenever Chris is back in town he is asked to do various performances and he always drifts back to Larry for help. Larry is a kind, patient and skilled vocal instructor.
