Diedrich W. Minneapolis, MN

Often times students want to learn more than one style on guitar and I encourage this. If you want to be a serious classical musician, I am not the teacher for you and I can refer you to one who is. But if you want to access certain pieces you love or want to simply explore classical guitar, that is terrific and I have great pieces for this.

About Diedrich

I hold a Music and English degree from Hamline University, but that doesn't make me a good teacher. I've played professionally for over 25 years, have taught English as a Second Language, Hockey and Audio Engineering, taught people age 5 to 75, and have taught private music lessons full time in Minneapolis for the past 9 years, but this doesn't make me a good teacher. What makes me a good teacher is that I have an infectious love of music and a passionate commitment to helping people. I do have specialties, like helping singer/songwriters develop their lyrics, arrangements, voice, and performance as well as helping artists get through creativity blocks, stage fright and preparing for studio recording. My experience as a producer, studio musician and audio engineer has ...

You really couldn't ask for a better teacher than Diedrich. I've been working with him for about a year on songwriting, singing, and guitar, and have improved so much more than I ever expected. I had no songwriting experience when I started, and with his help, I've gained the skills and confidence to write songs I feel good about. He’s patient, supportive, and genuinely cares about helping you be the best you can be. I always walk away from lessons feeling like I understand something I didn't before. He’s inspiring to learn from. You’d be lucky to have him as a teacher.

I’m a lifetime student and decided to take voice lessons this year. Diedrich has been an amazing teacher. He spends time getting to know the student and learning her goals to create the best plan for her. He’s a great listener and observer which allows him to quickly adapt to the students needs.

No need to look for another teacher in the Twin Cities. If you’re reading this, you've found the best and should book your first lesson now.

The BEST Guitar Teacher I've EVER had!

Diedrich,
Is a very nice, genuine person, who is honest, straightforward, and knows EXACTLY what he is doing. He is smart, wise, funny, and very charismatic. He makes taking guitar lessons a joy, rather than a chore.

I would recommend Diedrich to anyone pursuing guitar or bass lessons, whether it is for one or two lessons, or for the long term mentoring and instruction, of which he is extremely capable of providing.
Helen L. Minneapolis, MN

I teach classical guitar, using Duncan method books and other pertinent books with great classical solos

About Helen

I studied voice at McPhail Center for the Arts in high school. I
studied piano, voice, guitar at Augsburg college. I performed in
musicals, small ensembles. I write my own music and have performed it around town for years. I have sung in bands and solo. I recorded two CD's with my original music. My original songs are eclectic and contain jazz, blues, folk, country, and soft rock songs. I love music theory and writing. I taught at Mars music until it closed, then taught at Minnesota School of Music for a couple of years. Then moved my students to my home, where I have been teaching for the last ten years. I teach all ages. My piano students perform in music auditions like "The Guild", my guitar students have performed in school concerts and talent shows, my ...

Helen will get to know your student and meet them where they are.

My name is Trish F-J and my kids Henry and Mary Grace have taken lessons from Helen for over 13 years. Each of my kids is very different in their musical interest and commitment to piano. Helen understands their individual styles and meets them where they are at. Helen challenges them, but knows when to use a gentle touch. A few months ago, my son Henry decided to pursue other interests and is no longer taking lessons. He has told me that one of the reasons he took lessons for as long as he did was because he really liked working with Helen. I highly recommend Helen.

Patient, Challenging, Versatile

Helen is a fantastic teacher. She really takes the time to get to know her students and their goals before diving into lessons. She is patient, but holds you accountable in your progression as a musician. Her home studio is inviting and comfortable, matching her personality. If you're looking for a patient, yet challenging instructor...then you should definitely try some lessons with Helen!!!

Helen is a fantastic teacher!

Helen is a wonderful teacher. I actually think of her more as a vocal coach, life coach, and friend for life! I studied voice with Helen for about two years, and I only stopped because I moved away from Minneapolis. She’s someone who believes in the uniqueness and power of every voice. Helen’s positive energy—along with her knowledge of the body, breath, and a wide range of vocal exercises & techniques—is completely invested in helping each student learn how to love their voice, use their voice, and make their voice their own.

I am a singer-songwriter, and before I took lessons with Helen, my voice was often shy. Helen helped me bring my voice forward, teaching me how to stay present with the emotion of each song and to use my breath to sing with confidence. She is a sensitive woman who is always enthusiastic and encouraging. She helped me strengthen my range, and she helped me not to be afraid of the high or the low notes. Most importantly, she helped me not to be afraid of what I have to say in my songs. With Helen, I learned how to perform my songs instead of just sing them.
