Learning to play an instrument begins with loving music!
The first question I ask a new student is: "What makes you want to play an instrument?". Some people want to play rock, others pop, and others have many different interests, but it all begins with a love for music.
I teach my students to play their favorite songs right from the start. I believe that when you learn music by figuring it out on your own -- by learning to listen -- you gain something very valuable that you can take with you no matter what your musical goals are.
I'm not a strict teacher, but I believe in being disciplined when it comes to the fundamentals. If you have good technique, it frees you to play anything you want to play.
In a typical hour-long lesson, my beginning students spend from 10-30 minutes on the fundamentals, depending on how much time the student has to practice at home. The rest of the lesson is spent applying what we've learned.
It usually takes just a few months before ...
I started playing drums in my parents' basement when I was 9 years old. It was just me, a stereo, and a bunch of cardboard boxes I made into my first drumset. Every day, I listened to to my favorite songs over and over again to figure out how to play them. To me, there was nothing more awesome in the world than music.
Since then my musical journey has taken me far and wide. I've studied percussion and composition with world class teachers, toured Europe, composed music for commercials, co-written award winning songs, and performed with a variety of artists at such venues as the Hard Rock Cafe, BB King's, World Cafe, 55 Bar, The Living Room, The Bitter End, Shrine, Rockwood Music Hall, and many others. And the one thing that hasn't changed? I'm still totally in ...
While I am primarily a drum set instructor, I infuse a great deal of percussion into my repertoire. Lessons focus on your particular needs and your ability level.
I am a part-time professional recording and touring artist with over 20 years of practical experience and over 12 years as a drum instructor.
I have studied with many musicians, including Al Miller, Jim Chapin, Frank Bellucci, Dan Faulk and Ray Anderson. My goal is to teach music in a fun, informative and relaxed environment. I like to create custom lessons based on your musical tastes, and show you all the tricks of the trade, including musicality, performance and preparation. Whether you are a hobbyist or an aspiring pro, let me show you what you need to know!
When I'm not playing drums, you can find me running the day-to-day operations as the Managing Director at Camps 'R' Us, a summer day camp with 6 locations on Long Island, NY.

My goal as a teacher is to share all the knowledge and experience I have acquired over 30+ years of drumming. Based on my education from such a diversity of teachers and institutions, I have much to offer. I use many techniques to help the student retain what he or she has learned and teach in a simple, intuitive manor. I am a friendly, patient, compassionate person who will always make you feel comfortable while you learn. My journey started at the age of 8 when I began private lessons for 8 years. I then studied Afro-Caribbean and Brazilian styles of drumming at the prestigious Drummers Collective in Manhattan. My fascination of these particular genres lead me to a renowned teacher by the name of Richie Rodriguez, who refined my hand drumming skills and advanced reading concepts. These ...
I have been playing drum kit and percussion for over ten years and teaching for about seven. I've played a little bit of everything - pop, rock, punk, hip-hop, ska/reggae, blues, jazz, and even musical theater. In addition to drum kit, I can play and teach hand drums (djembe and conga) in contemporary or traditional African, Latin, American styles. I'm happy to share my skills and expertise with drummers of all ages and skill levels.
I studied music at UCF (Orlando), focusing on classical and jazz guitar, but I also have years of experience playing rock, blues, folk, hip-hop, and musical theater on both guitar and drums.
I have been teaching guitar, drums, and piano for about eight years to students of all ages. Music is what I'm passionate about and it's what I enjoy. I want to inspire that same passion into the hearts and minds of others.

I am a laid-back teacher, fun, and I focus on the needs, abilities, and ambitions of the student. In turn, students must realize that learning an instrument takes a lot of work and dedication. One can't expect to learn very much if s/he only practices or thinks about the instrument during the lesson. If the student is willing to put ...
I offer a working musician's perspective on personalized instruction and insight for drumset and complementary hand percussion. My experience ranges from being a middle school drum student myself way back when, all the way up through presently gigging, teaching, touring and recording regularly as a career musician. Over 10 years of professional gigging/touring/studio and teaching experience and over 20 years of playing the instrument have helped me figure out a lot of lessons that I wish would have been shared with me many years ago as a student, but never were. I try to be the teacher for my students that I wish I'd had when I was at their stage of music development. Not only do I offer first class instruction in hand/foot technique and style, but I also incorporate the real life application of the skills we develop through lessons as well as some of the other important aspects of the music business that are worth considering for more advanced students. For my novice students I work ...
My goal is to offer the tools, training, and inspiration to my students so that they may exercise their own creativity while becoming technically proficient and capable drumset players. Of course, I like to make sure to have a good time too! I'm willing to travel beyond the 10 mile specified "limit" that TakeLessons has set. If I'm traveling to you, I ask that students have a drumset and a place to play it where we won't disturb anybody or be disturbed during our session.
I have over 20 years of playing experience and over 10 years of teaching experience with students of all ages and proficiencies. I owe my teaching technique and general lesson plan to my first great teacher and mentor Don Perlman, founder of Westchester Percussion Studio with whom I studied ...
