Beginner classes are an introduction to the basic movements of belly dance, with emphasis on technique, combination steps, identifying and dancing to the various Middle Eastern rhythms, finger cymbals (zills), and short dance routines. For any age, height, or weight, it's a great way to stretch and tone Egyptian style. No previous dance training is required. Proper attire for class is comfortable exercise clothing.
Students in the intermediate/advanced level class will continue to build on their knowledge of the dance. Saroya emphasizes techniques such as layering movements, perfecting isolations, special props including veil and cane, and using zills as an integral part of the dance. Students will begin improvisation to short pieces of music as well as writing and performing their own routines.
Are you a Middle Eastern dancer or student who wants to concentrate on a specific area of study? Are you someone with no Middle Eastern dance training who wants to create a dance for a special occasion? Are you sponsoring a social function and would like to include a short class that will be lots of fun for the participants? Saroya's private and personalized classes can help you.
Saroya offers private, one-on-one coaching to Middle Eastern dance students of any level. In these classes we work on parts of the dance that the student would like to improve or on new things the student wants to master. Saroya tailors the content of each private class to the needs and wishes of the student.
If you want to do something special for a birthday, anniversary, or other occasion, Saroya accepts commissions to create and teach individual choreographies. You do not need any previous dance training, as Saroya customizes each routine to accommodate the performer's ability. Previously commissioned dances include a high school talent competition, a birthday celebration, and an anniversary gift.
For those who would like to include a short group class as part of a social or educational function, Saroya is happy to help. Again, no previous dance training is required. Saroya will travel to your get-together, bringing music and costume items, and will teach a dance to the group.
These private and personalized classes are available by appointment. The cost varies but is always reasonable. For more information and to schedule a class, please contact Saroya directly.
