I am an enthusiastic teacher who loves to help students explore and enjoy the process of singing. Singing and music can boost your confidence and can be an activity that is both challenging and enjoyable. Singing is also personal and I believe it is important to see lessons as a collaboration between teacher and student.

I am also an active performer with a focus in opera and musical theater. I currently singing with Minnesota Opera and have performed such roles as Suzuki in Madame Butterfly, Alisa in Lucia, Marcellina in Le Nozze di Figaro and the title role in Carmen. I believe that a great teacher has experience they can share with students. I understand the challenges of singing because I face them professionally everyday. I strongly believe that anyone can learn to sing, and my goal is to dispel the myth that only a select few are "gifted" with beautiful voices. Singing is like a sport; it is about muscular coordination, which with practice and focused instruction, is something that anyone can improve! It is my job as a teacher to help you choose repertoire and to give useful feedback which will build your voice and your confidence.

My teaching experience encompasses students of all ages and abilities, some as young as 10, to those well into adulthood. I am a professional Opera Singer, new to Minneapolis from New York City. While that's my "job title," don't let it fool you. I have also spent a number of years touring with jazz, blues, and rock and roll bands as a pianist and guitarist, so my style comes from everywhere. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Vocal Performance with a minor in Piano Performance from Hope College in Holland, MI, and my Master's in Vocal Performance comes from The Ohio State University. I am a professionally managed singer, and have worked on a number of international operatic stages as a baritone. I have been on faculty at NYU-Tisch School of the Arts, and the New School for the Performing Arts in New York City. I have also worked in Musical Theater as a performer and more recently, a music director/conductor.

Hello! I'm Justin, a classically trained Baritone with an emphasis in operatic singing. I have earned my Bachelors degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Wisconsin- Stevens Point, where I have appeared in various operas, and performed many recitals. I am currently pursuing my Masters of Music degree at the University of Minnesota. In addition to a semi-regular recital schedule in my undergraduate work, I have played the roles of Papageno in The Magic Flute, Marcello in La Boheme, Judge Turpin in Sweeney Todd, and Marco in Gianni Schicchi. Mark H. has been a professional teacher, musician, and singer for over 20 years. He has taught Voice, Guitar, Acting, Bass Guitar, & Music Theory to students of all ages in various settings ranging from private lessons to college classrooms. He is a fun, experienced, passionate teacher willing to work with students of all levels from beginners to professionals. Mark absolutely loves helping all his students achieve their individual goals.

Mark has performed in musical groups that have played locally and toured nationally. He has opened for national recording artists such as Eddie Money, Blackfoot, Kenny Wayne Shepard, Molly Hatchet, and Shooting Star (to name just a few). He has extensive songwriting experience and has composed original songs for various local bands. He has also produced musical scores for theatrical productions at the University of Minnesota, Harmon Place Players, and the Rhombus Theater Company.

A love of music began in the third grade. I started on a silver metal clarinet and have not stopped playing. I am a musician, composer, arranger and performer. I hold a B.A. in music and have taught in the schools for 22 years. I bring extensive knowledge and humor to my teaching.
