I started my musical training as a pianist at YAMAHA institute at age 4 in Japan. I was selected to enter perfect pitch class. It was designated for students who have perfect pitch and potentials to be professional musicians.

I enjoyed playing piano and electric piano and won the 1st prize at Kitakantou Electric Piano Competition hosted by YAMAHA institute. Because of the intensive training, I have been accompanying my students' recitals and performance exams.

As much as I enjoyed playing piano, I discovered that I also love singing, so I started to take singing lessons and majored in vocal performance during my college days.
Since I have graduated, I have been performing opera professionally. I am a graduate student in classical music studies at NYU. I am trained in opera, jazz, and musical theater styles. My mission is to present a healthy, natural, and powerful sound for all voice types and music styles.

I also have instructed beginner and intermediate levels of alto saxophone. I was a tutor for my university, helping students with Musicianship (sight singing melodies and rhythms). I feel that anyone can become a skilled musician if they put forth the time and effort needed.

I grew up just south of Nashville, TN and have been singing for most of my life. I began as a boy soprano in the choirs at church, then youth choir, middle school choirs and shows. Then during high school, where I was really bit with the singing bug, I was in every musical I could audition for, and I sang in the select choir for all four years. I have performed at multiple venues in New York City, including Carnegie Hall and Off-Broadway. I studied opera performance and musical theater at Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ and acting at Primary Stages. Along with these qualifications, my positive spirit and belief in my students has yielded outstanding results in their musical accomplishments.

I am a classically trained singer and will share with you the best techniques and exercises available to help you sing comfortably and freely, and more importantly, to have fun! I have two Masters Degrees, one of from the New England Conservatory and have taught voice for over 16 years. My teaching environment is safe, supportive and geared to helping you learn complete breathing, proper placement of the voice, ear training and dramatic interpretation. I made my Broadway debut with the original cast of Disney & Cameron Mackintosh’s hit musical Mary Poppins and became Broadway's second Mary, flying over the heads and into the hearts of Broadway audiences for over 100 performances.  I left that production to join the original cast of the highly acclaimed Broadway revival of Ragtime.  

I continue to cross the country representing Walt Disney Productions in national concert appearances. I have also has appeared on The Today Show, The View, the 2007 Tony Awards Show, and the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. After graduating from Ithaca College with degrees in Vocal Performance and Music Education I spent three years teaching music in public schools. During that time I taught Kindergarten - 4th grade, as a long term substitute, and then 6th - 8th Grade Chorus to 430 students. During my time teaching my program grew at a rate of 30% annually compared to the band and orchestra who struggled to gain 5%. I attribute this success to my style of teaching which is accessible to everyone.

No matter the age, I will find out about what you are interested in besides music and use that as a hook to help you understand what's going on in our lessons. Although I am tough, because I want you to get the most out of your time, I am positive and love to laugh.

I am a classically trained singer living, working, and teaching in NYC. I have a degree in vocal performance from The University of Maryland at College Park. While in the D.C. Metro area I performed as a chorister and soloist at The National Shrine, Metropolitan A.M.E Church, and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. My exposure to a wide range of music, from baroque to contemporary gospel and musical theater, has strongly influenced my teaching. Stephen made his operatic debut in the title role of Gluck's Orfeo in Santa Barbara, CA. Other roles performed in the United States have been Oberon in Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream, the title role in John Eccles' The Judgement of Paris and Sesto in La Clemenza di Tito by Mozart. Among the roles sung in Europe were Orlolsky in Fledermaus, Bertarido in Rodelinda and Oberon in Sommernachtstraum. He has been a soloist in many Churches and Synagogues in the United States and Europe. Highlights have been Messiah, Elijah, St. Mathew Passion and Cantorial soloist for the Jewish High Holidays. I fell in love with teaching music while a student myself! I am an alumna of the University of Michigan, where I received Masters of Music and a Bachelors of Music degrees with honors. While there, I began teaching at my private vocal studio and studying vocal pedagogy. Since graduation, I have maintained a private studio in New York. I love what I do. I find it very fulfilling to give my students the tools that they need to succeed and watch them achieve their goals.
