Rachel holds a Master of Music, M.M. in Vocal Performance from the University of Northern Colorado and a Bachelor of Music, B.M., from San Jose State University. She recently re-located from St. Louis, Missouri to the Hartford area. While in Missouri, she served as an Adjunct Voice Instructor/Lecture Professor at East Central College, a Private Voice and Music Instructor at St. John's School of the Arts and opened a private voice studio through Takelessons.com. In addition to her teaching experience in the Missouri area, Rachel was a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Northern Colorado where she was an assistant instructor for Music Survey and Music and World Cultures classes. As a professional actress, musical director, producer and vocalist, I have seen how the Broadway and concert community work first-hand. I have been teaching voice and piano privately in NYC for over 20 years, with a number of clients currently on Broadway and in National tours (Jersey Boys, Lion King, Spamalot, etc.). Singing and playing piano have always been a huge part of my life. I love to perform everything from opera and sacred music to music theater and jazz, and have been performing since I was very young. I earned my Bachelor’s of Music in Vocal performance DePaul University School of Music in Chicago. It was there that I fell in love with teaching, when I taught my first student as part of a course in vocal pedagogy. Originally from Saint-Petersburg, Russia, I studied violin, piano, voice, and music theory at the Glazunov School of Music since the age of 5.
After relocating to the US, I continued my musical training at the Eastman Community Music School in Rochester, NY, along with studying privately. Due to my broad interest in music and general curiosity I picked up playing the trumpet, began to dabble in various genres of music and composition.
I am a graduate of the University of Denver with a Bachelor of Music dual-degree in Classical Violin and Jazz Voice Performance. My college experience was filled with lessons in jazz piano and violin, composition, classical and jazz voice, participation in string chamber groups, symphony orchestra, jazz big band, bebop, hard bop, modal, latin, standards, and fusion jazz combos, with which I sang, as well as played violin, piano, and trumpet.

I have been making music since I first picked up a recorder in the 4th grade. Over the years, I’ve played flute, trumpet, and piano, and sung in choirs, cabarets, musicals, and operas. I recently received my Masters in Music (Vocal Performance) from New Jersey City University where I studied classical voice. Although I am trained classically, I love performing all genres of music, including Broadway, folk songs, spirituals, and jazz. In fact, my Masters thesis explores the convergence of opera and musical theater – these two genres have more in common than you might think!
