Music and education are the driving forces in my life. From as early as I can remember, I found something in music that lit a fire in my soul. This fire is a passion for expression, communication, and creativity. This is a passion that I hope to pass on to my students.

There are two basic principles that guide both my musical approach and teaching philosophy:

- Maintain a consistent regimen of study that is vast in style, instrumentation, and performance potential

- Continually build on a foundation of learning that incorporates eclectic methods and perspectives

I graduated, from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music (percussion emphasis), a minor in psychology, and a MD state certification to teach K-12 education in music.

I was born in Charlestown West Virginia. My musical career started at age 3 when my parents placed a pair of drum sticks in my hands. I started playing drums in church and then progressed to play in middle school were I was apart of the jazz band and orchestra. With some very early lessons, I begin to blossom into a skillful drummer. I then continued to play in bands in high school and, in addition, became apart of the Milford Mill Academy Marching Band. In my sophomore year, I became the section leader of the drum line were I played the snare drum. I have 2 degrees in music theory from Deer Park Magnet school and Morgan State University. I have performed with many bands from different musical genres such as gospel, funk, pop, jazz, blues, rock, latin, reggae, and r&b. I presently am a certified Maryland public music teacher. I was a full time traveling musician for 20 yrs. Maine-Florida, Midwest, USO tours top forty bands , country acts local and national, single act as a lounge act. I have a BS degree in music education and was a student of John B Southard for about 15 yrs. This type of background in performance allows me to teach students the importance of using your aural ( listening) skills as well the music theory needed to perform when needed. My experience with different styles of music include Blues ( New Orleans) jazz, Rock, country, as well classical.

I have been teaching private lessons for close to 10 years and have been an active performer for even longer, playing in all different types of groups, from rock bands and jazz groups to orchestras and brass bands. I studied music at Frostburg State University (Bachelors) and the Peabody Conservatory (Masters). I can teach just about any age and skill level and cover anything you are interested in learning; whether its a certain style, genre, technique or song.

Steve is originally from the Binghamton, NY area and began studying drums at the age of 12 with local jazz musician Tony Monforte. He participated in the All State Orchestra and was placed on the Pro-Mark Honor Roll for young, up-and-coming drummers. Steve received a Bachelors of Music in Jazz Studies from Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY where he studied with Gordon Stout, Steve Brown, and Robert Bridge. He was selected to participate in the Henry Mancini Institute where he worked with some of the leading jazz, film, and classical musicians and composers from around the world including Terence Blanchard, Bud Shank, Christian McBride, and Jerry Goldsmith. He has also studied with Steve Houghton, Greg Fields, John Vidacovich, and Harold Jones.

Hi my name is Aleksis, know by thousands of students as "Mr B." I'm 33, happily married with a one year old daughter and five year old son. I have been teaching music for over twenty years now. I have been performing locally and nationally since 1992, solo and with a band, at hundreds of venues across the country as a singer/songwriter guitarist and keyboardist. I am currently recording my fourth full length album, with several albums selling on iTunes. I own my an independent record label, working as an audio and video producer at my home studio and on the road recording live shows as well as with my students in their homes that are working towards a professional music career like mine.
