I've been teaching both piano and voice for almost 40 years. I taught elementary vocal/general/choral music in our local public school system for 32 years. I added teaching privately about 10 years later. I work with students ages 3 and up for piano, and ages 8 and up for voice. I welcome students of all levels of experience from the earliest beginner to the most advanced. The lessons are largely focused on technique, theory, and developing skills, and can be adapted to incorporate each students goals. I encourage my students to perform in various talent shows, and other avenues as they become available. We have a Recital every May, and all students are guided through the development of their selected music to take it from the beginning stages to having it ready to perform.

Don grew up in Indianapolis, and began his musical interest in church as a 9 year old. "Most everyone sang the melody during the song service, and I wanted to be different. So I started picking out parts to sing by ear." His first formal music began in the fifth grade when he took up the trumpet. From there he became involved in band and choir in high school and went on to major in music at Tennessee Temple College in Chattanooga. Later he earned a master's degree in music from Butler University, and studied voice and choral conducting at Pensacola Christian College for 2 summers.
He has traveled across most of the eastern United States as part of a college ensemble from 3 different colleges. He has performed in and directed numerous church musicals as well as ...

At that time I had two great mentors, John Miller of the Indianapolis Symphony and Joylyn Hague at University of Indianapolis. I hold a Bachelors degree in Music Performance in French Horn and a Masters degree in Music Education from the Indiana University School of Music. At Indiana University I studied with celebrated horn players Philip Farkas and Michael Hatfield and received certification in K-12 instrumental music as well as Kodaly Method certification while continuing to study classical guitar with Joylyn Hague at University of Indianapolis and Brent Terrell at Butler University.
