My experience consists of singing and songwriting for over 5 years, avidly studying the methods of various world-class vocal coaches for over 3, and direct one-on-one training from one of the best vocal coaches in the world—Jaime Vendera.
My students learn about proper technique, how to take care of their voices, how to extend range, and much, much more!
My highest note used to be G4, but is now soprano A5. With the right techniques and amount of practice, you can do the same with your voice.
I have been tutoring math for over 2 years and realized along the way that within me, there is a very strong passion for sharing knowledge and working with others one-on-one. Recently, I have starting directing this passion towards teaching voice and it has been rewarding to say the least.
I was trained in the classical bel canto stylel of singing, which is all about singing with ease and connectivity. With younger students, my focus is on basic diction, sight singing, ear training, posture, stage presence and confidence. Once students are in high school, I begin to focus more on technical exercises and slightly more advanced repertoire. All lessons consist of a warm up, technical exercises and singing through assigned repertoire.
I earned my BA in music from Hood College and studied voice with acclaimed mezzo and pedagogue, Elaine Bonazzi, in NYC from 2003-2010. I currently coach with former Peabody faculty member, Ruth Drucker, in Baltimore. I have taught voice and piano at Mid-Maryland Performing Arts Center (2004-2008) and voice in Hood College's preparatory department (2007-2009). Along with currently teaching general music, voice, piano, drama and choir at a K-8 school, I also stay active as a professional operatic singer. Recent engagements include the title role in Donizzetti's "Daughter of the Regiment" and Mabel in "Pirates of Penzance" with Maryland Concert Opera, and soprano soloist in Hood College's annual "Messiah."
I teach voice and ...
I have been teaching lessons since I graduated from High School in 2003. I plan each students lesson to help meet and exceed their personal goals and expectations. All students will work on diction, intonation, reading and understanding music/rhythms, breathing, and posture. I am very laid back and positive and try to make my students feel comfortable with their voices and singing in front of other people.
I have been singing my entire life and teaching since I was 18. I am very passionate about private instruction, as I have personally found the most success through this method of learning music.
When I am not working, I can be found singing in my church choir, playing saxophone and/or bassoon in our Sunday School Orchestra, singing and playing bass in a 5 piece classic rock band, and spending time with my husband and our families and friends.
I will do my best to provide as much of the music as possible, as I know that can be a huge added expense to private lessons, but there may be a couple of books or sheet music that you will need to purchase personally. I will tailor your lesson plan to help you meet your personal goals. I look forward to working with you/your child.
"Steven is very professional and extremely helpful. He always has a smile on and is serious about helping you phrase the music. I would highly recommend him to anyone."
"It's been really exciting so far! Jordan has been so helpful, so knowledgeable. I could not have found a better instructor and I'm getting better and better every day."
"My daughter's wedding was weeks away and I had never been able to dance a step. With Jenny's help, I came further than ever before in such short time in any subject."
