About Me

Music is my passion, and when you've found your passion, you've found your purpose!

As a singer and a teacher, I specialize in Rhythm and Blues, (R&B), Jazz, Pop, Gospel and I am able to help students excel in these areas. I am very easy going, patient and excited about strengthening the voice and how the voice works.

At the tender age of 3, I was the youngest to sing with the adults in a concert. Since then, I knew that singing was something I was going to do for the rest of my life. At age 7, I started playing piano and guitar. At the age of 12, I formed a group in high school and started teaching the group about the importance of learning different harmony and using the vocal chords. At ages 13 through 16, I took guitar and voice lessons and I have been mastering the art of teaching voice lessons for many years and ear training.

Being a resident of New York for many years, I taught vocal lessons from 1992 to 2003 to kids, teens, main choir and a group of 12. I have sung all over the tri-state area in New York and our group have sung at many different events from the songs of the late great Whitney Houston, Adele, Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey and much more. I will teach you the joy of having the art of the great singers, but simply, being yourself.

Even though, I pursued both my Undergraduate and my MBA in Finance, I never lost my first love. I was always strengthening my voice and teaching the art of music at church or with friends.

As a current resident of Florida, and the Vocal Director at my local church, I am excited to bring the very best to my students and to take their voices to the next level through breathing support and vocal techniques. Whether you just want to improve on your vocal ability, or just as a hobby, my goal in teaching is:

"If singing is your dream, then you should make it a reality!"

About Me

Born in Atlanta, GA, I began performing vocally and on saxophone, at the young age of 7, and it has taken me all over the world. I discovered a joy for teaching music through creative and fun methods at Lee University in Cleveland, TN (2004-2008)

I currently live in the Orlando, FL area and am outgoing, funny, and optimistic. My experience, as a finalist on American Idol, in 2007 ignited a passion to not only perform but to teach. With over 8 years of private teaching experience, I understand that learning happens differently with everyone.

Whether you are just beginning or are wanting to reach the next level in your musical career; I am here to help motivate you and give you the tools to reach your personal goals.

*** Lesson Details ***
My teaching method is laid back, friendly, educational and motivational.

In the first lesson I will get to know the student, their goals, personality, and learning style. This enables me to customize a plan that allows students to flourish and learn at an accelerated pace.

Whether a voice student is wanting to have more control, power, and extend their range; or just wanting to be more comfortable performing in public, with work and dedication, these are all obtainable goals that, amazingly, can be reached within the first 3 to 6 Months of Lessons.

I prefer to teach students not just through learning scales but through applying vocal principles to the songs and music that most interests them. Whatever their favorite style of music we will be learning to apply what is taught in lessons to the actual songs of their choosing, in any genre. This makes learning fun and helps to keep focus and interest alive.

Many of these same principles also apply to learning how to play the saxophone! In These lessons you can expect to learn how to read music, develop a solid tone and even improvise by ear!

All lesson plans are tailored to get the student making music as quickly as possible so lets get started!

*** Travel Equipment ***
pay for students music tracks and books

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in contemporary Vocals (similar to Speech Level) as well as Classical styles of voice such as Bel Canto. My strength is building curriculum based upon the students goals and abilities to enable them to perform the styles and Genres that they are passionate about. Whether It's teaching a student to just match pitch or helping a performer connect with a song to make it a more musical performance. I truly enjoy motivating and educating so that the students obtain the proper tools to accomplish goals.

About Me

I received a Bachelors of Music and Business Administration at Stetson University in Deland, Florida. I accompanied my music degree with courses also in Finance, Economics, Business Law, Accounting, and Statistics. I was a scholarship student of internationally renowned pianist Michael Rickman(also a friend of her latest piano teacher). I was also a William E. Duckwitz Talent Scholar and a Stetson Piano Scholar.

As a piano soloist, I have performed on and off the Stetson campus and for special events in Central Florida, as well as in the masterclass of the late distinguished concert pianist Richard Cass. My repertoire includes works by Schumann, Schubert, Shostakovich, Debussy, Beethoven, Bach, Haydn, Mendelssohn, and Chopin. As a vocalist, my career involved taking lessons starting at the age of 6 and participating in choirs, theatre productions, and recitals. I was a member of the Stetson Chorale, who was invited to perform at the March 2010 Southern Division American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) convention in Memphis, Tennessee.
As a collaborative artist, I have appeared in recitals with vocalists and diverse instrumentalists, and served as accompanist for Spruce Creek Presbyterian Church in Port Orange, Florida for 2 years.

My musicality was acknowledged at the young age of 5 when I began taking piano lessons. It was not until I began playing for school plays, churches, and my teacher's student recitals that I realized I loved everything about music and really wanted to further my musical studies. At the age of 14, I was playing for my middle school's production of "Oklahoma". In high school, I accompanied the production "Alice in Wonderland". I have had multiple teachers and experienced a variety of teaching styles. As a student of Mrs. Nancy Shackelford during my teen years, I received three consecutive years of superior ratings from the National Guild of Piano Teachers/American College of Musicians. At 16, I was hired by Steinway & Sons to perform holiday music at the Millenia Mall in Orlando, Fl., and became a pianist at the Marriott Downtown. I have also competed in various competitions and scored highly because of my musicality.

I have been vocally trained from the ages of 6-20. I began taking private vocal lessons at age 6, and performed in many recitals. My experience ranges from broadway to classical. At Stetson University, I was a singer in the highly distinguished Stetson Chorale and Choral Union. I studied and memorized vocal work including masses from Beethoven and Mozart's "Requiem".

As a teacher, I have experience with ages 5-74. I always make my lessons interesting by throwing in surprises and working on music the student likes as well. I am able to get along with ALL personalities, and I cater the lesson to each student. I am here for the student for any advice, questions, concerns, no matter what their level of seriousness is.

I will be able to benefit the student by:
1. Developing a consistent, steady plan of action each lesson
2. Effectively addressing any student obstacles
3. Provide a comfortable, yet fun and exciting learning atmosphere for the student
4. Tailor each lesson to that student's needs
5. Provide ongoing support for future development

*** Lesson Details ***
The student can expect to have a serious, yet fun(and challenging) learning experience. Music is not always meant to be serious, it can also be exciting, challenging, and fun.
For piano beginners, I prefer to use Alfred's curriculum that is grouped into Performance, Lesson, and Music Theory collections. For more intermediate to advanced levels, I use the same but I like to throw in music from prominent composers such as Mozart, Beethoven, and Chopin, for a challenge, and to stimulate their minds. I expect the student to practice at least 30 minutes a day, twice a week for beginners, and I increase the time, of course for more experienced players. For intermediate to advanced students, I always incorporate finger exercises, scales, chords, arpeggios, etc. because those are the building blocks of music and have been proven to increase talent and skill. Beginner students who are not able to read music should expect to have more written work than actually playing until that skill develops on its own. I always encourage my students to never give up and keep practicing because skill will come with time. I am all about taking things slow and making sure the student is comfortable. One last thing I would like to mention about my piano teaching is that I use popular memorization and learning techniques that also enhance the way the student learns the music. After 3 months, depending on the level of the student, they will have learned either to be able to read music proficiently, learn fingerings, play something challenging they have not before, or begin memorizing music. After 6 months, beginner students should be able to read notes, sing while playing, count rhythms, and be more comfortable playing in general. Intermediate to advanced students will gradually build their repertoire with more challenging music, feel and interpret music accordingly, and increase finger strength and stamina with exercises. Each student will develop his/her own "touch" as well as technique.
Singers/vocalists can expect to practice their own exercises as well. The level of music I give them will continue to increase as they get older or as their voice develops. Proper breathing, posture, and vocal technique is very important to me. Beginner singers can look forward to singing modern music, theatre, or less demanding songs. Once they improve, they can expect to sing more demanding songs including parts of an opera, or Italian(arias) art songs.
Overall, students will achieve their goals by learning to memorize music, practicing consistently and efficiently, and becoming more musically literate. As far as the learning environment, it will be completely comfortable, creative, interesting, and open. Warm ups and exercises will comprise 20-30% of each lesson. I am open to all different levels and ages. I encourage students to make mistakes, because that is one way to learn. I currently have 4 years of teaching experience, and I am a recent college graduate. I am looking forward to enriching people's lives with the joy of music!

*** Studio Equipment ***
At the moment, the student must be able to provide their home and a piano. I will travel to their home for convenience. All students should posses a metronome. If not, I can provide assistance so they can easily find one. More advanced levels will need to have their own music dictionary for personal use. I can provide these during lessons, but it is the student's responsibility to have them readily available for home use. I will also assist in providing necessary books and materials for the student, but that will be their financial responsibility.

*** Specialties ***
I ensure my students have proper technique and training. This includes encouraging the practice of either Czerny or Hanon exercises as well as scales, arpeggios, chords, etc. to complement their daily practice regimen. For singers, vocal warm-ups and exercises are definitely included. I specialize in a wide range of genres including but not limited to Classical, Contemporary, R & B, and Pop.

*** Lesson Details ***
I was five years old when I discovered my singing voice. My youthful curiosity soon blossomed into a passion for musical expression through voice, violin, piano, and guitar. Now, my mission is to share the musical exploration that has enriched my life by fostering my students' desires to express themselves through music.

As a teacher, I focus equally on formal technique and artistic expression. Mastering correct form provides the foundation upon which a student’s capacity for the latter may grow. Techniques used during lessons are designed to develop a holistic understanding of music through aural, visual, and tactile cues. These include ear training, sight-reading, improvisation and using touch and visualization to navigate the instrument. Progress is evaluated by developing a set of goals specific to each student. I find that allowing students input in originating goals facilitates a cooperative learning environment and allows me to tailor lessons to a student's interests, strengths and learning preferences. Providing students with a plan to succeed inspires a drive to learn and sense of achievement. I encourage students to play their instruments daily. Through consistent practice, students will benefit from increased discipline, patience, creativity and self-esteem. Students are rewarded with the chance to share what they've learned at recitals held biannually. My philosophy is that mistakes are opportunities for improvement. For the duration of our lesson, my students are in a private, nurturing zone of free expression. Join me in an exploration of personal talent and creativity!

About Me

My name is Tara. I am a singer/songwriter and vocal teacher. I've been passionate for music my whole life and am very enthusiastic about it. I feel music brings people comfort and joy and is always inspiring. I have been blessed to work with so many wonderful teachers/vocal instructors specializing in various genres of music since I've begun studying voice. I began being classically trained, and then ventured on to study every style of music from jazz to pop to musical theatre. I have studied vocal performance at Berklee College of Music in Boston, as well as musical theatre at West Chester University in Philadelphia. I'm grateful for everything I have learned and have loved sharing my knowledge with all of my students for the last 10 years. I've also had the pleasure of teaching voice to a small group at a music camp in Pennsylvania. It was truly a wonderful experience for all of us. I have a BS Degree in Elementary Education as well, and have worked with elementary students at schools in Pennsylvania, Florida, and California. While in PA, I traveled to a Preparatory School where I would teach vocal lessons to elementary, middle, and high school students. In CA, I also taught private lessons. I specialize in children, young women, and adult women of all ages for vocal training. I strive to create a comfortable, positive, and fun atmosphere where my students are able to learn and grow, exploring all of the wonderful elements of singing and vocal performance.

*** Lesson Details ***
The most important thing I remember when I sing and teach is to always have fun! Music is a wonderful gift and is meant to be enjoyed. I am very open minded when I teach my students, knowing that every student is unique. In a typical lesson, we usually begin by warming up our instrument with various vocal exercises. These are really great, as they strengthen our voice and improve technique. I will teach you proper posture and we will work on breathing from the diaphragm. It's always good to work on technique and warm-up to get ready for the fun stuff...singing songs! I have a huge repertoire that I've collected over many years and have sheet music, books, tracks, and my computer to pull any song we'd like to work with. They include all different styles of music. It's very important for me that my students are enjoying themselves, so I encourage them to always bring in anything they'd like to work with and we are free to work with styles they are interested in. I remember being a vocal student myself, and studying music that I like always motivated me to learn and practice more and more! We will also discuss vocabulary terms such as, range, pitch, tone, and talk about how they apply to our vocal studies. I hope to work with you soon!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I would provide music books, sheet music, background tracks, cd player. I would need my student to have a piano at their home.
