About Me

Born in Queens and raised in Tokyo, Japan, I started performing at the age of nine. I made my stage debut in the ensemble of Tokyo Theatre for Children’s production of Cinderella where my mother played the Stepmother and my father was also in the ensemble. Upon moving back to the U.S. in the eighth grade, I started performing in my school’s shows in Northport, NY. By the end of my junior year, I made the decision that I wanted to pursue a degree in theatre. After my freshman year in The Ohio State University’s Bachelor of Arts program, I decided she wanted to dive deeper and transferred to The University of Arizona where I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre in December 2011. At the U of A, I had the privilege of playing my dream role of Anne Frank as well as Marcy Park in Spelling Bee and Mary Lennox in The Secret Garden. I was also a proud member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. During my college years, I worked each summer with Texas Family Musicals and RWS & Associates.

After graduation, I made the big move to NYC. I lived in the city for about three months before receiving my second contract with RWS & Associates as Company Manager at Idlewild & Soak Zone in Ligonier, PA.

After my contract with Idlewild & Soak Zone I plan to continue my career as a performer and cannot wait to see what is in store for my future.

As you can see I have a great deal of experience and expertise in many areas, and I look forward to sharing all of this and more with my students.

*** Lesson Details ***
My biggest goal with my students is that I want them to feel confident and I want them to have fun.
For my singing students, I think learning music theory and growing an appreciation for the classics are extremely important, but it's also important to sing the songs you want to sing! Once we've sung through and mastered a song I pick for you, I have you pick a song for us to work on.
For beginning singing students, I will thoroughly go over the basics of breath and music theory and for more advanced students, I will go through style and performance techniques.
I would also like students to know that although I am able to play basic piano, I cannot fully accompany my students. I like to utilize tapes and CD's and am able to have the songs their singing recorded by a professional accompanist for an extra fee.

For my acting students, I also think that learning the classics is just as important as studying modern pieces. We will go through all the fundamentals in learning a monologue and I will help your child develop a great monologue repertoire!

I specialize in college audition coaching. Thinking about majoring in theatre but don’t know where to start? Don’t know which schools to apply to and what the difference between BA and BFA programs are? Well I’m here to help! I applied to over 15 schools and know all the ins and outs and do’s and don’ts of college auditions. I offer a comprehensive one on one program where I’ll help you choose schools to apply to, help you put applications together, and coach you in each and every aspect of the audition.

*** Travel Equipment ***
For singing students, I will provide warm-up tapes for free and can provide piano tracks for songs they're singing for an extra fee. I would prefer my students have a piano or keyboard, and if not, access to practice rooms or music rooms in their school.

For acting students, I will provide all the materials needed. Students may choose to purchase their own monologue books or plays.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in college audition prep for high school juniors and seniors. In addition to song prep, I also do monologue prep and help with college applications.

About Me

I am a full-time pedagogue/performer with eight years' experience teaching private lessons in voice, piano, and acting to a range of ages and levels of students. Although the majority of my students are young adults, I have worked successfully with children, teenagers, and adult students (twenties to senior citizens) of both genders; I tailor my approach specifically to the goals and interests of each student; no two people learn the same way.
I hold a Bachelor's of Music in vocal performance from West Virginia University (summa cum laude, WVU Outstanding Senior, Honors College J. and C. Nath Outstanding Senior, Rhodes and Marshall Scholarships candidate). I regularly perform as a soloist in opera, oratorio, concerts, and recitals and completed training through the Ezio Pinza Concil for American Singers of Opera in Italy, the American Singers' Opera Project of North Carolina, and the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria.
As a teacher, I completed a year-long vocal pedagogy course with Cynthia Bess which provided me with a thorough understanding of the anatomy and psychology of singing, as well as a systematic approach to the correction of vocal faults. In the spring of 2010, one of my students, a teen-aged boy, was selected to attend Eastman's summer program for high school students. Several of my students have performed leading roles in school, community, and university musical productions.
I hold a full voting membership in the National Association of Teachers of Singing, am a Licensed Kindermusik Educator, am employed as Director of Music Ministry for a fairly large church, and was recently awarded the National Pastoral Musician's organ certification. I was also a teaching artist at Propel East Charter School for Greensburg American Opera and directed the Old Economy Singers (a twenty-voice historical choir) for six years.

*** Lesson Details ***
I provide professional, knowledgeable, and individualized instruction in a supportive and encouraging environment. During the course of study with me, I expect voice students will improve vocal technique and sound quality, alleviate physical tension which may be interfering with phonation, expand their range, learn new repertoire, increase confidence, and grow as performing artists.
My vocal teaching method focuses on correct breathing and resonance; I also incorporate some activities from Barry Green's "Inner Game of Music" technique. Although my teaching is grounded in a scientific approach to the process of phonation, I also believe singing should be a fun experience for the student. We sing to communicate! I believe that a thorough technical foundation is necessary for free and healthy singing in any genre of music. I am willing to work with students in the vocal styles that interest them most; although my professional performance experience is in opera and musical theatre, I have also successfully worked with students whose interests included jazz, pop, rock, folk music, contemporary Christian music, and choral singing.
My piano pedagogical method matches each student with the right curriculum-- Alfred, Schaum, or Piano Adventures-- plus supplemental technical exercises such as scales, arpeggios, and Czerny and Hanon exercises. All students are exposed to theory through worksheets, games, and other applied activities. As soon as possible, I introduce "real" repertoire from master composers.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Grand piano, electronic piano, music library, photo copier for copies of repertoire, music stands, Sing and See software.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide copies of music and exercises. If I am teaching at a student's home, I expect him/her to provide a keyboard instrument.

*** Specialties ***
I believe that a strong technical foundation emphasizing correct breathing and placement will allow voice students to sing in a healthy manner in any style of music. My professional performance credentials are primarily in opera, but I also have musical theatre experience and have successfully worked with students whose interests include opera, musical theatre, jazz, pop, rock, gospel, Irish folk music, and choral singing. In piano lessons, I emphasize technique and musicianship through a balance of exercises, repertoire, and theory activities.

My main goal is to make everyone feel like they are at home. So I have a studio that offers that. It's a small space for now) I will be expanding soon. But we make it work. :)

If you are seeking the big baby grand piano and stern Voice teacher this may not be the place for you or your Child. I believe Music can be a very organic and wonderfully fun process and teach it that way. While instilling excellent work ethics and creating all types of Music and Strong Technique in Healthy Singing.

When I teach children I teach them Music theory using colors. The formula I use is called the "ROYBIV" Approach. While it is a new idea to society as I very recently had it copy righted, I have been using it for three years and it really works. "ROYGBIV" has has helped make music theory more applicable and fun.
