About Me

My career as a trumpeter and composer has taken me all over the world, from the peaceful vineyards of Italy to the bustling cities of China!  I have performed in professional orchestras, brass quintets, Jazz bands, and cathedrals, and my music has been heard at concert series, universities, and music festivals at home and abroad.I have taught private trumpet lessons to students of all ages, from elementary beginners to college undergraduates.  Currently, I teach students in Washington, D.C. area music stores and high school band programs.  I previously taught privately for the Plainwell High School (MI) band program and in the trumpet studio at Western Michigan University.Education:MM, Trumpet – Western Michigan UniversityBA, Music – St. Mary's College of Maryland

About Me

I am a jazz vocalist, spoken word artist and brass player, all of many genres. I also play percussion in a West African drumming ensemble. I have been teaching in public schools for 9 years and I am happy to call Washington DC my new home. I have been teaching private lessons on trumpet, euphonium, trombone and tuba for 12 years and jazz voice, guitar and spoken word workshops for 6 years. I have earned a BA in Music Education from the University of New Hampshire and a M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from Lesley University. I have experience singing in clubs and in choirs, playing baritone for church and community bands, playing trombone for the Portsmouth Symphony Orchestra of Portsmouth, NH and performing with the Bele Bele Rhythm Collective. Music Lessons are goal oriented and fun. You will never leave a lesson not knowing what you've learned or how to practice for the next one. We will build good habits for technique and practice, learn a standard repertoire for your genre and/or instrument, and will gain confidence in becoming the musician you want to be. Whether your goal is to sing in church or sing in a band, play an instrument in school or prepare for college auditions, I will help you attain your goals. I have had great success with students ages 5+ and have experience with teaching children with autism. I can't wait to make music with you!

*** Lesson Details ***
Each lesson is set in a laid back atmosphere that is goal oriented. Students are expected to practice between lessons to ensure that their goals stay within their reach and are ultimately attained. Curriculum is selected based on the student's experience, prior repertoire, needs and goals. After your first lesson, you will have an idea of what you can accomplish in 2-3 months. After short term goals are achieved, new ones are set as the long-term goals are constantly revisited.

About Me

I grew up on Long Island New York and am currently studying music education at George Mason University. I have been playing flute for 12 years now and it's time I share my experience and love for music with others!

To me, music is an outlet and it's important that my students fall in love with music while also learning about it.

A typical lesson with me will be structured like this:
Emphasis on basics (scales, studies, tuning, etc)
Sight Reading and Ear Training
Learning techniques through pieces

I had a lot of bad habits that developed over years I didn't have proper teachers, it will always be my goal to make sure this isn't the case with my students. Playing music should be fun, never too hard or painful. I will put a big emphasis on posture and building proper habits from the beginning.

My recommended length of time for a lesson is one hour. 30 minutes is not enough time once a week to really develop habits properly and really get into the heart of the music we will be working on.

I am really looking forward to acquiring more students!
