About Me

My career as a trumpeter and composer has taken me all over the world, from the peaceful vineyards of Italy to the bustling cities of China!  I have performed in professional orchestras, brass quintets, Jazz bands, and cathedrals, and my music has been heard at concert series, universities, and music festivals at home and abroad.I have taught private trumpet lessons to students of all ages, from elementary beginners to college undergraduates.  Currently, I teach students in Washington, D.C. area music stores and high school band programs.  I previously taught privately for the Plainwell High School (MI) band program and in the trumpet studio at Western Michigan University.Education:MM, Trumpet – Western Michigan UniversityBA, Music – St. Mary's College of Maryland

I have had great success with students ages 5+ and have experience with teaching children with autism. I can't wait to make music with you!

About Me

My interest in music began when I was about 8 years old and learned to play the piano. A few years later, I joined the middle school band and fell in love with the trombone. I've played the trombone almost everyday for 17 years and I'm now a member of the prestigious US Air Force Band in Washington D.C.

I have a passion for teaching that is rarely matched. I love seeing the light bulb turn on when a student begins to understand specific concepts that unlock the next level of musicianship. This inspires me to keep inspiring the student! I'm one of the most patient teachers, not minding if a student is working hard but has trouble grasping something. I'll work through it many different ways until it clicks.

I taught freshman level music theory and ear-training at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music while getting my Masters Degree in music performance. I've also studied with teachers at Juilliard and have played under the baton of the most famous conductors of our time while I was a member of the New World Symphony Orchestra in Miami Beach, Florida.

*** Lesson Details ***
I enjoy a creative learning environment where I approach difficult technique from many different angles, boiling it down to the most simple form when needed. I enjoy having fun in lessons while accomplishing the goals I set out. I expect students to practice as I teach them to, and present any problems they are having at the beginning of the lesson so I give them the guidance that they need to overcome them. Lessons are most effective when the students are enjoying what they are learning and welcome new challenges. Learning a new instrument is difficult, only when you aren't having fun!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Full sized keyboard with weighted keys.
Trombones
Pedal Harp
Professional Microphone and recording equipment.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will provide sheet music for each student

*** Specialties ***

About Me

I grew up on Long Island New York and am currently studying music education at George Mason University. I have been playing flute for 12 years now and it's time I share my experience and love for music with others!

To me, music is an outlet and it's important that my students fall in love with music while also learning about it.

A typical lesson with me will be structured like this:
Emphasis on basics (scales, studies, tuning, etc)
Sight Reading and Ear Training
Learning techniques through pieces

I had a lot of bad habits that developed over years I didn't have proper teachers, it will always be my goal to make sure this isn't the case with my students. Playing music should be fun, never too hard or painful. I will put a big emphasis on posture and building proper habits from the beginning.

My recommended length of time for a lesson is one hour. 30 minutes is not enough time once a week to really develop habits properly and really get into the heart of the music we will be working on.

I am really looking forward to acquiring more students!

About Me

I earned a Bachelors in Music Education as a percussionist in 2006 at Mansfield University. I took lessons for 8 semesters with three different teachers, so I have various teaching styles I can choose from. Also, as a music ed major I took classes on flute, clarinet, sax, oboe, bassoon, trumpet, french horn, trombone, baritone, tuba, strings, and multiple piano classes.

I then went on to be a band director for 6 years. During that time I was able to give my students private and group lessons on their instruments. In addition, I had a couple private students on guitar, drums, and piano.

I left the classroom to pursue a Masters Degree in Instrumental Conducting at Mansfield University. I played in the marching band, wind ensemble, and orchestra while working on my masters degree. I took more percussion lessons, which were geared towards teaching my own private studio. I was also the percussion instructor of the marching band. In July 2014 I taught a percussion summer camp at Mansfield with students ranging in ages from 10-18.

I have played guitar and bass guitar since 1999, and have also taught piano classes in public schools.
