*** Travel Equipment *** I would bring my guitar, metronome, pen, etc. The students should have their own guitar and amp if electric. They should also have the appropriate books - mel bay note reading and a blank music staff and tab book. *** Specialties *** My method focuses on learning scales, chords & arpeggios and then showing the student how to apply them through knowledge of music theory. They will learn how to create music on their own as well as understand the music they listen to. I will also show my students how to play various popular songs and how to improvise. My areas of expertise are in rock, pop, blues, rockabilly, metal, country and jazz. I also teach note reading, fingerstyle and classical guitar.
Acoustic, electric & classical guitar lessons.
Early Guitar Studies & Pit Orchestra Performances (1995-2002) I began taking guitar lessons at the age of 11 with blues/jazz guitarist Tom Castonzo, a frequent performer, bandleader and teacher in and around the Chicago area. My studies with Tom lasted for many years and covered various musical and technical aspects of many different styles ranging from jazz to classical and everything in between. In 2002, I began performing in pit orchestras for various musicals including Jesus Christ Superstar, Les Miserable, The Wiz, Little Shop of Horrors, and Seussical the Musical. Music has always been my passion since I was young. Even before I played any instruments I was always glued to the radio, eager to hear the next great song. Not only am I passionate about music, but I am passionate about helping others learn and to achieve a similar relationship with music that I have. Patience is my biggest strength in teaching, and with it I am sure I can deliver the best possible atmosphere to help you learn! After playing guitar all through high school and playing in its jazz band for two years, I realized I really did want to make music a career. I attended Loyola University Chicago and studied guitar and music theory, earning a BA in Music and graduating Cum Laude. I was awarded the Departmental Award for my performances in ensembles, and for my Senior Recital, ...
Classical guitar is the style of playing in which I am most fluent. It is what my degree is in as well as my primary stylistic focus. Ever since I was 15 I have been a freelancer, playing at weddings, art shows, churches, restaurants, and more. Let me help you learn the technique, the reading, the theory, the history, and expose you to the richest music written for the guitar.
My primary goal for my students is to cultivate a love for the instrument every step of the way. I know I have become the guitarist I am today because my former teachers kept me inspired and having fun from the very beginning. Passing this on to my students means that each lesson entails a balance of playing, listening, technique, stories, and laughs! The best way to learn is to create an environment where you, the student, looks forward to picking up the guitar, and smiles every time you do. If you enjoy playing, improvement will come with more facility than you could ever imagine.
