About Me

Music is my life and air. I started playing the drums when I was 12 years old. I played in every band and music ensemble I could throughout junior high, high school, and college. I have played in bands outside of school with music styles ranging from Rock, Punk, Hardcore, Metal, and Hip Hop. Since 2008, I have been teaching private drum set lessons and marching percussion to students of all ages and backgrounds, including Special Needs.

Recently, I attended the University of Texas at Arlington where I furthered my education in music teaching, music theory, performance, and percussion. I am also an experienced Djembe and Didgeridoo performer. Teaching and encouraging others in music comes naturally to me, and my degree in Music Business supports knowing how to prepare lessons and curriculum so students succeed.

About Me

Hello, I'™m Thomas, but most people call me T. I started taking private drum lessons when I was 6 years old from Lucy Flohr. Ms. Lucy was one of the most influential and important people in my development not only as a drummer but in life as well (she's the lady in my profile picture). I met her at 6, and we'™re still friends 30 years later.
After Lucy I started lessons with professors at UNT (which in those days was NTSU). My glam band, Skin Deep, was getting major record deal offers, but it was 1992 when grunge took over. So under guidance of our attorney we didn'™t sign any offers. With my high hopes deflated and a musically defeated heart I had to make a change. So instead of going to UNT to study music which I had been being groomed to do, I chose to go to Austin and attend UT. I graduated from UT in 1997 with a degree in psychology and decided to move to Los Angeles to follow my dream. My band broke up about a month later, but I formed a new one (Milkweed, which morphed into a blue grass band after I left, now called River Rouge) and got an indy record deal. We released "Milkweed....For Breakfast" on my birthday in 2000, and we did lots of regional touring for the next 3 years. Then I moved back to Dallas and joined JackAcid. We released "Life Through a Crazy Straw" on another independent label and toured regionally for a few years. Next was Crossing Ellum, which was fronted by Matthew JC (Founder of Emmy winning Small Guy Music and œMatthew JC and the All Stars). I spent several years playing with a heavy rock band named Social Jab that unfortunately ended before we released our CD titled S3V3N Years... I currently play in Marquis of Vaudeville.
I started teaching classmates in 7th grade and continued through high school. Then I took a hiatus from teaching with just a student here and there during college and my touring days. Now I'm back to teaching more than I'm playing, and I love it! I believe music is a phenomenal gift to us all in every facet, from listening, to learning, to creating, to performing, and it'™s an honor to be able to share my knowledge and experiences to help others learn to appreciate the blessing of music.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are catered to each individual student. If you want to learn theory, we will start from the beginning. If you just want to learn how to play your favorite songs, then that's what you'll learn. Your personal goals for drumming determine how I teach you.

*** Studio Equipment ***
In-home music room w/ two drum kits (if needed) and seating for parents. Piano, guitars, bass, and recording equipment.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will provide any manuscript paper necessary for first lesson, then I would expect students to purchase a blank manuscript book along with any books chosen to study.

*** Specialties ***
My lessons are catered to each student's goals.

Presley M. Southlake, TX

Subjects Taught

Bass Guitar, Drum, Guitar, Music Performance, Songwriting

About Me

I started playing guitar in 2001 with my youth group worship band. I would learn the chords I needed for that night, and play them through a guitar that no one could hear.
I played with that worship band for 4 years, and we had the opportunity to lead at our church camp in the summers.
For a while in 2010 & 2011, I led worship for my church’s youth group, and now I play lead guitar with the Dove Worship Team every Sunday!

I spent 8 years playing in bands, setting up, tearing down, booking, promoting, practicing, and practically never sleeping.
During that time, I led the Groove Band and traveled with Live Nation putting on stadium events for a nationally touring show. Among other things, I do all of the web design, graphic design, and video work for my church as well as one of DFW’s top rock bands.

In 2012, I got married to a beautiful girl named Gail. Gail is in charge of the children’s ministry at our church as well as putting on all the events at an apartment complex in Fort Worth. Gail is always helping out, so you’ll get to meet her.

With the best of what I know, I hope to help each student grow musically, artistically, socially, and spiritually!

*** Lesson Details ***
Curriculum can vary from student to student, but every student is urged to perform and find opportunities to use their talents at church, school, and with their friends. Soar is application minded, and our students gain priceless knowledge, setting them up to be invaluable parts of a team.

*** Studio Equipment ***
All you need to bring to lessons is your guitar! We have books, picks, stools, stands, & more!
