I began playing electric bass in 1984 performing in rock bands in the late 1980's to the present. When I began my formal education in 2006 I realized the importance of understanding chord structure/theory and began a love of studying guitar. Studying music theory and music composition/arranging completed my understanding musical concepts and how they apply directly to the instrument.

I like to understand my student's goals and their musical preferences so they get a lesson experience that is tailored to their specific needs and wants. We discuss technique, scales, song form, chord progressions, famous bassists, and more!
Hello! I'm Shannon, and I would love to teach you about music! I have an extensive musical background in both performance and education. I attended George Mason University and the world renowned College of Music at the University of North Texas. I am also an award winning bassist and singer, having performed at such venues as the Kennedy Center, Blues Alley, Rams Head Tavern, and more. I specialize in teaching contemporary styles (pop, rock, jazz, musical theater, etc.). I have taught many successful young vocalists and instrumentalists and believe in a positive, fun, confidence building approach. My students learn music theory, warm ups, and technique in conjunction with songs so they can apply musical concepts in a practical way.
Jan is a private instructor with nine years of experience teaching students of all ages and abilities. He believes that any individual can become an accomplished musician, with training and experience. He strives to understand each student and give them individual instruction rather than using the same dogma for everyone. This creates a unique and rich learning environment that accommodates diversity. He has also had success teaching other instruments like the accordion and vocal training.
Jan grew up playing music on the piano, singing in the local Methodist Youth Group Choir, and playing various instruments. He also studied formal music theory at the Washington Conservatory of Music. In middle and high school, he continued to participate in choral singing and played saxophone in the school jazz ensembles. Jan continued to study music theory at the collegiate level, was in three choral ensembles, and took formal vocal training. He began to learn the guitar during this time as well, and shortly after graduating in 2005, started guitar instruction. Since then, he has participated professionally in many local ensembles ranging in styles from modern rock to jazz and blues. He recently finished up an original music project, The Booby Traps, which performed locally and ...
