About Me

I'm a friendly and patient person who strives to be really encouraging towards the student's education. I believe a good teacher will make a huge difference in the learning process. I was born and raised in Northern California. I first began studying guitar with Musicians Institute alumni Scott Allen. After three years of private lessons, I attended and completed my training from Musicians Institute(G.I.T) with a certificate in guitar performance. At the Musicians Institute, I was instructed by Keith Wyatt, Ernesto Homeyer, Scott Parker, Al Bonhomme, Greg Harrison and Daniel Gilbert (just to name a few). Along with learning the standard curriculum of Musicians Institute, I performed in many styles such as Blues, R&B, Pop, Rock, and Metal.

My teaching style is very laid back. Music should be fun!

I like to find out what my students want to get out of their instrument. Weather it's being able to play along with what they hear on the radio or becoming the next Slash. My job is to set you on the right path and make goals to get you to where you want to be!

The fundamentals and basics are very important but it's also good to just be able to jam! I try and make lessons a good mixture of the two so you never get bored with playing scales and theory.

Let the fun begin!

Kevin B. Sacramento, CA

About Me

Hello everyone! My name is Kevin and I am a pianist, vocalist, and instrument connoisseur. I have been playing the piano since I was 10 and taught myself how to play by ear. Growing up in a church environment I first taught myself gospel and later jazz. I personally love jazz, and this is one of my areas of strength. It wasn't until I was about 16 years old, while attending my first college, that I started exploring music in depth and as a potential career. As I started to delve deeper, I began to compose and have had some ensemble groups perform my pieces. I have arranged pieces for choirs and accompanied them as well. I also play guitar and bass guitar. As a well rounded musician I can teach you how to play the piano, how to learn music theory, how to compose and the beginning levels of guitar and voice.

I've been teaching and tutoring music students for about 5 years now. I've always loved and enjoyed music, and want to share that same joy through teaching. I started teaching by tutoring my peers in college and realized how rewarding it is. I then started to include students of all ages while continuing my education. I have a knack for music theory as well, this is typically a challenging area for most people, and I find it extremely important for a growing musician. I've been teaching choirs and bands in multiple school districts over the past 2 years, and I love working with children especially. I have conducted my community college choirs, along with their concert band, and orchestra. My true passion lies in conducting as I am a classical pianist with an ultimate goal as a conductor in my future.

I am currently attending college to obtain a bachelor's degree in music, with my emphasis on collaborative piano, conducting, and composition. I have been taught from coast to coast, while gathering much more in between. I previously attended Bard College at Simons Rock (Great Barrington, Massachusetts) at the Age of 15, then moved back to California at the age of 17. I currently attend Cosumnes River College and have plans to transfer this fall to a major four year university to complete my bachelors degree. Presently, I work for the Sacramento Unified School District as a Piano Teacher and Choir Accompanist.

*** Lesson Details ***
In first meeting with a student I like to establish realistic short term goals, along with an overall goal in mind. Say nothing and teaching them everything. I like to promote a learning style of self-found knowledge. The best way to make something stick, is to discover it yourself. I like to see the "light bulb" effect in my students. Children seem to learn best when a lesson plan is catered to them, and when teaching is shown physically. Adolescence and adults tend to learn from a more technical stand point, with the emphasis on "how it works." My goal is to fuel a students thirst for the instrument and music as a whole. Depending on the student, and their goals, we can have a lesson ranging from really fun and easy going lesson to something a bit stricter that will keep up their progression and focus. I am a very patient person and have experience with ALL ages and ALL types of people.

I use a lot of different materials during lessons. Typically each of my students will have about 2 books at a time, one for the instrument and technique, and the other for theory. Though I love to cover many bases and provide the most knowledge to each of my students, it is also a priority to make sure that the knowledge is affordable. For that reason, I try to stick with more commonly used, easily accessible, and affordable books from publishers like Hal Leonard, Alfred, and G. Schirmer.

Within 2 or 3 months my students can look forward to having clear knowledge in the basics of their instrument(s) along with the theory behind the music. I will continue to keep an open line of communication with my students to ensure that I am meeting their goals, encourage questions, and ensuring their progress forward.

About Me

I'm Esther, a very enthusiastic musician. I started out teaching myself piano and singing in a choir at the age of 9. I moved to the U.S. in 1992 and studied music for 10 years receiving my B.M. & M.A. in music at California State University of Sacramento. I studied and trained with Claudia Kitka & Jackie Victorino for voice and Kirsten Smith, Joan McDe, & Angel Mamn for piano. I have performed many solo concerts in the U.S. as well as South Korea.

I find a student's strengths and weaknesses using various ways to encourage each student. I am very patient, kind, flexible, and enthusiastic and I love working with children as much as adults. I strongly support basic skills: sight-reading, pitch and tone.

I have 26 years experience teaching kids and adults private piano and 6 yrs voice coaching (early period to contemporary). I speak fluent Korean and English.

I emphasize basic skills, good sight-reading, and Solfege skills (Do-Re-Me...etc), vocal technique, vocal performance, and Alexandria technique. Students participate in their own recital and show their musical talents.

Lessons are held at either your home, or mine using composers from various time periods that speaks to the individual student.
Also,I do prefer to work a weekly student.
A beginner lesson may be 10-15 min. for warm-ups and scales, 10-15 min. theory and 10 min. playtime. In three to six months the student will be able to read sheet music and should be able to perform simple songs.

An intermediate lesson is longer, 45-50 min., with more focus on music from a specific chosen time-period. A specialty is preparation for voice and piano auditions for entering college.

I enjoy teaching children from age 5 up to adults. I also can teach beginner oboe and beginner guitar.

Raquela B. Elk Grove, CA

About Me

I am an all-round Singer-songwriter, vocalist and performer. I teach from my humble small home here in Elk Grove, CA. I grew up right here in South Sacramento where I started singing solos in church choirs, playing guitar and songwriting since the age of 9. I studied opera (at BIOLA University) for 3 years then receive my B.F.A. in Music and Theatre from California State University of Irvine (Southern California). I moved onward and upward playing several leading roles on Broadway (New York City) for 18 years. Before that I performed in Japan, Brazil and all over parts of the Caribbean and South America. I also sung and performed at Universal Studios Florida and Disney World. My extended biography consists of being a 5 time Billboard Dance music charter, a voting member of the Grammy's, a Former Miss Orange County (Miss California/America Organization), I'm also a 12 times "Best Actress" Off Broadway/Regional/Stock (NYC) and I am a recognized Obie Nominated artist for writing the "Best Electronica Musical". I am also a member of ASCAP and AEA.

I teach One hour lessons, once a week only.

I believe that only some people on this earth were born to sing and that gift should be guided carefully, but I also believe that EVERYONE should learn to sing no matter what. Like getting good sleep, exercising and having a good diet, learning to sing is a must if you want a healthy, full life. I am NOT a coach. I am a teacher. Yes, there is a difference. I am very good at breaking down the voice and identifying the student's strengths and weaknesses using various exercises. I prefer to work with the students voice first before working on their performance skills (presentation of song). I am very patient, fun, enthusiastic, high energy and I love working with children as much as adults. I strongly support the basic skills: sight-reading (pitch and tone) and vocal control (posture/breathing). I have about 10 years of experience in teaching kids and adults privately.
C'mon! Lets sing!
