Hey there! I'm here, happy and ready to be guiding YOU through the path to your own sound. I believe everyone has an innate ability to be able to express themselves musically - they just need to find it.
I discovered my true passion when I started playing guitar at age 13. Ever since then, I've branched out to other types of guitars (Acoustic, Electric, Sitar, Banjo, Ukulele) as well as many different genres (Rock, Blues, Hip/Hop, Metal, Classical, Reggae, Progressive, Ambient, Folk, Experimental, Punk, etc.). The importance of songwriting, melody crafting, harmonic arrangement, and lyrics came to me when I discovered the true talent of groups like The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Jeff Buckley, Simon & Garfunkel, and Pink Floyd. I taught myself how to sing and how to play the piano about 6 years ago.
On May 2012, I graduated from UMass Amherst with a Bachelors in Marketing/Psychology. I decided not to attend college for Music because I wanted to learn more, musically, on my own experiences playing by myself as well as with others. Essentially, I didn't want to learn the same material as everyone else. Nevertheless, I played guitar, piano, and sung every day of the week - before/after and between classes. It's my true calling.
I've been teaching guitar for 8 years, vocals for 3 years, and piano for 2 years. Always extremely patient, I want to completely understand the student's goals and aspirations as a musician. I will help you get there. A keen listener, I'll always be recognizing your improvement.
Bass Guitar, Drum, Percussion
I am 25 years old, who has a strong desire to teach, I have the ability to explain music in many different ways, I work well with people, I have a lot of patience, ability to communicate, highly adaptable, always look at the positives, and very energetic. I have a Bachelors Degree in Media Communications with a Minor in Music from Anna Maria College. Over the past 14 years I've played drums/percussion for every type of band from concert bands, to jazz ensembles, to christian rock bands, etc. Also for the past 3 years I've taught private lessons to students of all ages.
Drum, Music Performance, Music Theory, Percussion
First and foremost, I'm a professional touring/recording musician. I wrote, recorded and toured internationally with a rock/punk/hardcore band called Defeater from Boston, Ma between 2005 and 2012. I'm currently the touring drummer for indie/pop group Hellogoodbye.
I studied snare drum, drum set and percussion at the Rivers Music School in Weston, Ma from 1988 to 2000 (yes, I have actually been playing drums for almost my WHOLE LIFE!)
I studied privately with several Berklee College of Music instructors, including my Mentor, Dave Dicenso. I also studied Jazz improvisation at the New England Conservatory and music theory at Skidmore College. I earned my BA in Psychology at Boston University in 2008 and I've been teaching professionally and for fun since I graduated.
I cater my lesson plans to the desires of my students, though no music lesson would be productive if there wasn't some hard work involved. I work with my students to develop a strong background in rudimentary principles of drumming while still making it fun and keeping it interesting. For my intermediate and advance students, we focus on becoming a more technically advanced and musical drummer. We may be drummers, but we're still musicians and the most fun comes in writing great drum parts for great songs.
"Steven is very professional and extremely helpful. He always has a smile on and is serious about helping you phrase the music. I would highly recommend him to anyone."
"It's been really exciting so far! Jordan has been so helpful, so knowledgeable. I could not have found a better instructor and I'm getting better and better every day."
"My daughter's wedding was weeks away and I had never been able to dance a step. With Jenny's help, I came further than ever before in such short time in any subject."
