About Me

Music became my life when I found a dusty guitar in the storage room at age 10. I owe a lot of really cool experiences to the guitar and so many of them center around learning. Teaching is fun and rewarding, but it is also my way of thanking the great teachers I've had.

*** Lesson Details ***
The best lessons I've ever had were lessons in which I walked away saying "Man, I never KNEW that!" and it's my goal for you have that experience, too. Whether its how to play that chord or write a melody, how to get the best sound out of those stomp boxes, or when genres like shoegazer and post-rock were invented and what they sound like... there's something to be learned in every lesson.

The most important benefit of taking lessons from me is my experience. I started teaching casually as a teenager and have followed every opportunity since. My passion for music has allowed me to teach private lessons (10+ years), middle school guitar class (including a guitar ensemble), and college-level music theory classes. Extensive experience in writing, recording, and performing has only helped that passion to grow. I've developed a method to blend theory with practice every step of the way, and make the journey fun!

About Me

We learn by teaching. That is why I love to teach, because I love to learn. I have made many great connections while teaching music to people and one of the ways to do that is to work together on a common goal. I started teaching music because during my own studies I have discovered many quick learning strategies that make playing music fun. I teach from my home studio as well as via skype. Many of my strategies I've discovered on my own. Now I want to share these ideas with you.

Scott is a multi-instrumentalist loop master whose music spans a wide range of sounds and genres. With an education in music performance and a reputation for having a good time this laid back musician is no amateur to the music scene. Scott has performed hundreds of shows and numerous festival appearances, including 10,000 Lakes Festival, Wakarusa, Harvest Fest, Solstice Shakedown, Dogstock, Bela Luna, Camp Euforia, etc. Great stage presence and crowd interaction are a couple of things this guitarist is known for.

We begin each lesson by tuning our instruments. For beginners we will learn the anatomy of our instrument. Next we will start will a 5-10 minute warm up. Following that we will take 10-15 minutes to review our previous lesson material to indicate whether or not the material has been learned. If so, we will build from the previous lesson in order to maintain progress. The remaining 10 minutes of each lesson we will summarize what we covered in the lesson and assign homework for the week.
Lessons with me are always productive and fun. I am a laid back passionate musician who can give you the tools to be a confident, competent player. Together we will learn your favorite songs and the theory behind them. All music involves theory so don't be afraid of it. Instead grab it by the horns and take charge or your musical experience. Beginners will learn chords, scales, modes, instrument anatomy, history, and western musical theory (the language of music). Intermediate to advanced players will learn: alternate chords inversions and voicing, advanced ear training, altered scales and chords, chart reading, etc.

Evan K. Arvada, CO

About Me

I have been playing lead guitar since 2004 (bass guitar and drums since 2006) and have invested my life into the creative process. Over the said amount of time, I have been applying my technique to genres such as heavy metal, jazz, blues, funk, classical, and anything in between. I have written over 30 original works which include guitar, bass, drum, and vocal scores. Once the work is completed, I would proceed to creatively construct in a one-on-one or group scenario. I have also been student teacher and guitarist for the Standley Lake High School jazz band. The jazz band at Standley Lake regularly played clinics in which professional jazz musician's would critique the group on a particular set. This would include breaking it down to the single musician's parts and pin pointing strengths and weaknesses. As far as classical music, I am currently composing a series of string trios and quartets among many other chamber music. This greatly expands my perception and knowledge of pure music in general. I have done extensive research on multiple composers and their various techniques and subtle nuances. This sharpens my theory and composition knowledge and allows me to apply it to any genre. I can bestow these techniques upon my students and help them to understand the universality of music theory.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a very easy going person with the ability to inspire healthy drive and ambition. I have developed an original theory technique as an expansion to my deep knowledge of traditional theory. By working with me, you will learn good posture and technique in regards to physically playing. I will help you develop an advanced ear for music and to recognize unique genres and style. Once you are comfortable with that process, we will dig deeply into the infinite world of theory and composition. The simplified goal would be getting you ready to play in a band on your chosen instrument or simply composing and enjoying your own music.

I have a passion for a wide range of music including fingerstyle acoustic, classical, jazz, heavy metal and funk. I'm currently in the internationally known metal band Allegaeon, on Metal Blade records. I've been called accomplished composer, some songs of which have been released on Fragments of Form and Function¬Ä¬Ě (2010), a record some critics have hailed as one of the best metal records of 2010, and one inews called "one of the greatest debut albums of all time". Our follow up record "Formshifter" broke at no. 2 on iTunes, and reached 3 Billboard charts, and our latest Elements of The Infinite, which debuted at no. 1 in Canada, and no 3 here in the States.
