About Me

Soprano Jordan E. has sung operatic repertory throughout Chicago and internationally. Ms E. has been featured with the DePaul 20+ New Music Ensemble, and has sung the roles of Female Chorus in The Rape of Lucretia, Musetta (cover) in La Bohčme, Polly Peachum in The Threepenny Opera, and Nannetta in Falstaff.  She has been an active cast member in Lake Geneva’s Music by the Lake where she sang Adele in scenes from Die Fledermaus.  In 2011, Ms. E. was an emerging young artist at OperaWorks. In 2013, she sang concerts throughout Italy including a solo performance at the Cagli Opera House. She won first prize for the Chicago NATS competition, was a grand finalist in the Dayton Opera Guild, and most recently was a featured soloist on Chicago’s classical music station, WFMT.  She looks forward to rejoining the cast of Music by the Lake this summer where she will sing Baby Doe in a preview of The Ballad of Baby Doe. 
In addition to singing Jordan is an accomplished pianist. She was thrilled to close the year 2012 with several solo piano and voice performances for Ohio Governor John Kasich and the Ohio State Senate and Legislature at their private holiday events.

Ms. E. received her Bachelor of Music in voice performance from Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois. She graduated in June 2014 with her Masters of Music in voice performance from DePaul University School of Music, where she studied with Julia Bentley.

About Me

Lydia started her musical journey at age 8 with piano and later adding harp when she was 12. She wanted to share her gift of music with others and started teaching piano and harp lessons when she was 17. Lydia was hired on as a teacher with a local professional music company and worked there for 4 years. During that time she continued her education and received the necessary training on how to effectively teach students of any age.

Currently Lydia is a full-time professional harpist and music teacher. Lydia has performed well over 800 times in Columbus and the surrounding areas and has recorded 3 CDs of her beautiful music. She is the principal harpist for the Cardinal Health Chamber Orchestra and also plays with the orchestra at Northwest Bible Church.

Lydia enjoys sharing the gift of music with others and seeing their joy from being able play for themselves.

I am a piano performance major at Capital University entering my senior year. I have had a variety of performance experiences including solo and duo piano performances, instrumental and vocal accompanying, and playing with chamber and large ensembles. I also have some experience playing jazz and feel comfortable teaching this style at the beginning level. About Me

Hello music makers! I have been teaching music lessons since 1992, and involved in music and performance since 1983.

After working with hundreds of students I have one major take-away: music lessons have to be tailored to each student. When we do that, every child (or adult student) can learn. My job as a music teacher is to be creative and make sure that each lesson is as fun or serious, challenging or relaxed, classical or pop, technical or big picture, short or long, and upbeat or laid back as it needs to be.

I started piano at 3 yo, and also studied violin, flute, piccolo, guitar, dance, voice and theatre as a child. I studied Suzuki piano until I was 8 yo, when I then changed to a college professor with whom I studied until I was 20. I also studied Suzuki violin and flute, both with professors from The Ohio State University. I was accepted into what was then called Columbus Symphony Children’s Chorus, today called the Columbus Children’s Choir, where I spent several years learning the Kodály method under the direction of Dr. Sandra Mathias. In addition, I advanced to second chair, first violin in Columbus Junior Strings under the direction of Dr. Gillespie. I played piccolo and flute in the Columbus Symphony Cadet Orchestra, where I was first chair. I have performed with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, won competitions and received numerous honors for piano, flute, voice and songwriting. I performed in several choirs, including show choir, and accompanied (piano) for musicals, soloists and choirs. I composed and recorded a full album at 17 yo.

After high school, I was accepted at The Ohio State University to major in piano and voice, after declining a full scholarship for piano that my childhood professor offered to me. I also studied musical theatre at Belmont University, and took courses focusing on the Kodály method at Capital University. I lived in Nashville for some time, and have performed everything from rock to classical music to audiences as large as 10,000 people.

Also, I have been involved in the Piano Guild and also the Ohio Music Teachers Association, sending students to events and adjudications with wonderful results.

I really love to teach, though. That’s when I have the opportunity to pass along all that I've learned, and “pay it forward” so to speak. Working with students one on one, getting to know the parents — that’s what makes me smile, and I pass that sparkling personality right along to the students!


Music lessons should be fun. And with every student — child or adult — being unique, every lesson is different. Throughout our relationship I will learn more and more about what it takes to help a student succeed. I really have a heart for helping each student on his or her own level, whatever that may be. I have worked with very advanced students preparing for college auditions, and 3 yo beginners. I have been successful with all of them by tailoring what we do. One thing is for sure, I never get bored that way! Neither will the student.

In addition, I believe in well-balanced lessons. We will learn technique, ear training, how to read music, playing or singing with dynamics and emotion, and much more, all of which make learning and performing music fun, engaging and interesting! I also like to incorporate technology whenever possible, including software, various websites, iPads and tablets, games, and other tools.

Piano: I offer Suzuki piano lessons for very young students, ages 3 yo and above. Even adult students can learn the Suzuki method. I offer a Suzuki and traditional blend starting around 6 yo or first grade. When the student is reading to learn in school, usually around 9 yo, we can start a student with the traditional method. I really like the Suzuki method, however, and I make sure that all students learn how to read music in the process.
Voice: If a young child loves to sing, we can add 15-minutes on to a 30-minute piano lessons for 45-minutes total. Otherwise, I start 30-minute voice lessons usually around 10 yo.
Adults: I work with adults, as well, and can be flexible for adults who cannot make their lessons weekly due to work and travel. Just let me know your intentions for scheduling.
Songwriting: I also teach music theory and songwriting. Having recorded an entire album at 17 yo, I can teach a student about the musicality of songwriting, music theory, lyrics, rhythm and even help with software such as GarageBand. A student does need to have a basic understanding of music notation in order for them to work on songwriting.


Every family has their own “thing” — sports, music, academics, traveling, church, or something else they all love to do together. As a result, every family has a different amount of time available for practicing. Perhaps the young student in your family doesn't like to practice, or it’s nearly impossible for mom or dad to practice with the student. All of these are things that we will work around. At the end of the day, we just want the student to enjoy music lessons, so sometimes that means we have to do things a little bit differently from one child — or adult — to another.

I always tell the story about how I absolutely hated to practice. In fact, it’s part of why I have such a good ear today. I would listen carefully to the recordings on my way to the lesson, and somehow fumble through. I practiced just fine as a little girl and then again in high school and beyond, but my early teenage years were not great practicing years for me. I was taking piano, flute, violin, guitar, dance and voice lessons all at the same time, too. Had I had a demanding, nasty teacher, I would have quit (in fact, I did quit one of my instruments just because of that). My piano teacher was especially nurturing, and we did theory, sight reading, ear training, and “practiced” during my lessons. Sure, progress wasn't as fast as it could have been, but she kept me going, and I love for her that. After she passed away, I knew that I wanted to be sure to share that same love, patience and encouragement with my students, and I strive to do just that.


I teach lessons out of my home in Golf Village in Powell. I have a comfortable studio room with space for a parent to sit in and watch the lesson. Students have their lessons on a very nice cherry wood upright Yamaha (pictured on the left), and then every so often we’ll wander in to the great room to play on the Kawai grand piano. I also offer lessons online for people who do not live nearby, and online lessons could also be used as a make-up or when a parent cannot get a child to my home for an in-person lesson.

You will also be offered opportunities to come over to my home and play for a few other students from time to time, which can be a great help for making friends, finding duet partners and getting out those nerves. Sharing your music through performances can be an important motivational tool, so I provide these outlets as options for everyone.
