Guitar, Piano, Singing, Violin, Cello, Flute, Music Theory, Opera Voice
I have been first trained as a professional opera singer as a child in Korea. For many years, I have performed on stage. When I came to America, I have continued to pursue education in voice (and piano) at Troy University and at Baptist College of Florida while seeking other degrees.
In addition to my main focus on vocal training, I am professionally trained to play instruments such as piano, guitar, flute, and violin. I have learned to play piano and guitar to initially accompany my own singing, but I have continued to study these instruments to this day. I have been a main church pianist, wedding pianist, collaboration pianist, and etc. For flute and violin, I have been a member of ensemble groups and orchestra (and symphonic band) and performed on various occasions.
These training has allowed me to start a music academy in Korea from 1990-1996. There, I have taught all the instruments I have learned: piano, violin, cello, flute, guitar, and voice. It started small, but it grew rapidly and before I came to US in 1996, I had over 250 students. I had hired 6 more teachers, one for each division. My students came as beginners and would leave as educated musicians, who entered competitions, performed in public events and at concerts, and sought degrees in music.
In US, I had a small music studio for many years in Alabama. My students have entered AMTA competitions for state of Alabama, sonata competitions, and many others. Some have won, and others have lost. Those who won smiled and those who lost cried, but all returned with good experiences.
Now in Georgia, I am starting to teach again. I hope to offer my new students same amount of care and education borne out of experience that I have provided for many, many years.

I have enjoyed teaching and helping students of all ages for 22 years in achieving their goals in learning to play their instruments. Educated at Columbus State University with a Music Education degree, I teach many instruments including piano, guitar, including Classical style, banjo, saxophone, clarinet and flute. If you would like to start on the trumpet or trombone, I can help you as well. I specialize in working with the first time beginner, giving them a solid foundation in instrumental technique and musical knowledge, as well as helping those who have some experience on their instruments and who are looking to advance.
Piano, Flute, Music Theory
I have been a professional music teacher since 1987. I taught general music in the public school setting for thirteen years and then as a preschool music teacher and private piano teacher. This experience has given me a strong foundational knowledge of how I approach music education. People respond positively to the excitement and beauty of making music whatever their age. Every piano lesson allows me to better understand my students' learning style. This enables me to provide the language and skills they need to transfer their understanding to playing and reading the music we are studying.
Life experiences provide context for style, mood and expression. These relationships with music help make a more attentive and expressive player. I enjoy pointing out this context for students' benefit and hearing how they already relate a piece of music to previous experience.
My piano studies began in the first-grade. I joined the band in middle school learning to play the flute. I was in the band through high school and continued my piano studies. I went to the University of Mississippi on a Music Merit scholarship with piano as my principal instrument and choral music as my ensemble group and graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education.
After graduation, I went to Japan for two years as a conversational English teacher and Christian missionary. When I came back to the Atlanta area I began my music career as an elementary school music specialist. Teaching general music helped fill my music library with American folk music, multicultural folk music and lessons in the art of active listening. (Most of us enjoy listening to many styles of music when we are actively engaged in the process.)
My mission is to bring music to life in my lessons and my students' lives!
