I first realized I wanted to be a drummer when I was listening to Rush with my older brother. We were already rocking out with a collection of shoeboxes out on the floor as a makeshift drum kit, and then the ultimate drumming song came on- Tom Sawyer!

I wanted to learn how to do what I heard Neil Peart doing. Fortunately, I had parents who were nice enough to buy me a drum kit (and nice enough to put up with the noise!). I first started on a cheap, beginners set, and then I eventually welcomed a nice 5-piece set of Pearl drums at the age of 11.

Since then I have been playing in various bands, both in school and in garages/basements. I have also done a lot of theater, which has given me the opportunity to network and find work as a popular musician/composer for local musicals around town.

Hello and welcome!!! I'm a 29 year old percussion instructor at Clark Atlanta University. I've been teaching private lessons in the metro Atlanta area since 2008. I teach every aspect of percussion from marching to concert and even drum set. World percussion is also included!!! I hold a BS in music from Bethune-Cookman University and a MM in percussion performance from Georgia State University. I have over 20 years of combined education and experience performing and teaching percussion and piano. I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Percussion Performance from the University of Alabama,with Piano as my secondary instrument. I hold a Master's Degree in Percussion Performance from Indiana University, with a Cognate in Jazz Studies. I have taught private percussion, drum set, and piano lessons to over 100 students. I performed for 10 years as a contract percussionist with the Savannah Symphony Orchestra, the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, the Macon Symphony Orchestra, and the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. I have performed in orchestras with accomplished musicians including The Moody Blues (Chastain Park), Judy Collins, and Henry Mancini.

I'm a freelance drummer and teacher working in the Gwinnett County area. I have been playing in and around Atlanta since 1979 and moved here in 1981. I have been teaching for the Gwinnett School Of Music since 1997 and currently have 25 full-time students. I continue to perform on a regular basis with several local acts and work a few months a year with a local middle school percussion section. I received an early education in marching and symphonic music under band director John V. Mazza and had the privilege of marching with the 1st place trophy winning Prince George High School Band of Petersburg, Virginia in the 1969 Tournament of Roses parade in Pasadena, California. During the 70s I toured throughout the southeast and midwest with a variety of bands based out of Panama City, and Miami, Florida.

Gabe has been playing the drums for twenty years and has been teaching students for about twelve years. In that time he has played with numerous live acts as well as studio work. His experience mostly lies in jazz, funk, blues, latin, and rock. As much as he loves playing these styles he loves to teach them. Gabe's music education began in grammar school and continued through high school. In college he earned a non-music bachelor's degree but never stopped studying the drums. With the help of his own private instructors and continued playing experience, he now considers himself a self-taught musician and uses this experience to show his students how to do the same. I am a native of Atlanta, Georgia who has been studying music for 17 years. My first instrument was the piano at age 6, and I began playing percussion in my middle school band when I was 11. My deep love of music drove me to pursue a Bachelor of Music Performance degree, which I earned magna cum laude from the University of Georgia in 2012. In college, I studied percussion with Tim Adams, retired principal timpanist of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, and Dr. Arvin Scott, former Berklee College of Music instructor and founder of the Drumming for Success Program.
