Tenor Sergio recently received his Master's degree under the tutelage of César Ulloa at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where he also holds his Bachelor’s degree. This past summer he was an apprentice artist with the Des Moines Metro Opera program. This summer he will be performing the role of Albert in Britten's Albert Herring with the Green Mountain Opera Festival and in the spring as Vaslav Nijinski in Danse Russe (Paul Moravek's One-Act Opera) with Kentucky Opera. He will return in 2014 to Kentucky Opera to sing Benvolio and cover Tybalt in their production of Gounod's Romeo et Juliette. Hey, and thank for visiting my profile! My name is Lance, and I am a Professional Session Drummer and Educator from San Francisco, CA. I have had extensive training studying music privately under Los Angeles Studio Musicians, Berkeley Jazz Musicians, Renowned Bay Area Jazz Educators, at The Jazz School for Music and Performance, and have worked with many artists performing at venues such as The Viper Room, House of Blues Hollywood and Slims as well as recording drums for sessions at Prairie Sun Recording Studios, Hyde Street Studios and 4th Street Studio with top industry professionals including working alongside Los Angeles industry professionals.

I am a passionate musician, and drums are my dialect. I have been performing for 12 years, and teaching for 7.

I came to San Francisco to study at San Francisco State University under Andrew Speight, Michael Zisman and Akira Tana. During the 4 years before I received my BA in Music Performance there, I performed over 300 gigs, shows, and concerts, spent nearly 30 days recording in studios for rock, jazz, and latin groups, became the drumline instructor of Archbishop Riordan High School, and joined the notable Fil Lorenz Orchestra - a highly professional group that takes all shapes from a jazz quartet to a full sized big band ensemble.

I've come to love teaching as well as performing probably because they both, in some way, convey the knowledge, philosophies, and skills I've gained throughout the years in either entertaining or educational contexts.

I've done a wide variety of things in my musical life. I've got a degree in classical guitar, I have formed a bluegrass band, I study the music of Jimi Hendrix, trained extensively with San Francisco Opera, have sung Opera in many part of the globe, have been the solo guitarist/singer on the major Mediterranean luxury cruise ship- Seabourn Quest , and love to teach what I've learned from years of experience and great colleagues. I love to teach music and look forward to new adventures in lessons. I really enjoy the process of self-discover that comes with learning an instrument or singing beginning with fundamental technique. While it's true that I trained as an Opera singer and look forward to sharing, I'm a big fan of popular music as well. I have a degree in guitar from the University of Evansville and a degree in voice from the University of Minnesota. I have been playing guitar since I was 10 and loving music my whole life. I have been in numerous rock bands, high-school jazz band, classical guitar duos, trios, chamber ensembles, and even played mandolin in a bluegrass band. I received my Bachelor of Music at Guilford College as a student of Kami Rowan. During my third year of study there, I was nominated for the Guilford College Art Award as the outstanding student and performer in the music department. In February of 2010, I had the honor of being a member of the guitar orchestra during a performance of Shingo Fuji’s Concierto de los Angeles, alongside soloist, Grammy winner, William Kanengiser. I recently completed my Master of Music degree at the Cleveland Institute of Music where I studied with Jason Vieaux. I've been teaching now for 10 years and I have never had more fun with it. I love sharing the things I've learned from all of my various experiences whether it be from my classical guitar background or from one of my various rock bands.
I am a working musician and I still learn new things every time I go out to play. It could be classical music at weddings, Jazz at clubs, or Rock and Roll at rowdy venues. There's a lesson to be learned from each. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced musician the sharing of experiences to benefit another is what it's all about.

I began playing the guitar at the age of 6 when I received one from my parents for my birthday. It was a Fender Jaguar copy purchased along with a Harmony tuck and roll type solid state amp in blue (that picked up radio stations almost as well as it amplified guitar) from Columbia Music and Electronics on 7th and Market St. After receiving my guitar, my parents enrolled me at Tony Conti’s school of music on the corner of 27th and Geary St. I had an hour lesson every Tuesday at 7. Tony was primarily an accordionist and mandolin player but he also taught beginning guitar. He had a small studio with 2 rooms and a waiting area. This was the winter of 1974 and I began playing in earnest in conjunction with Mel Bay Modern Method For Guitar Book 1. I took lessons (working through the Mel Bay books) with Tony for a couple of years until he closed his studio. From there, I went through a succession of music schools and teachers (Larry Paul, Yamaha Music school, Joe Deloro amongst others)....

Hey there! My name is AJ and music is my life. Whether its composing, performing, studying, teaching or just listening, I aim to fill my days with music. Nothing makes me happier than sharing my love of music with others, especially when it means helping someone discover music making for themselves. To me, music is a source of endless joy, excitement and fun and I seek to show that to all of my students.

Background - I studied jazz, classical and electronic music at UC Santa Cruz. Received a B.A. in music in 2006. I've been a professional music teacher for 10+ years, including teaching at various Bay Area music schools and acting as band director for youth rock bands. I have also been actively playing in various bands in the Bay Area for the past 10+ years.

I have taught piano, chamber music, theory/aural skills and composition for 24 years and have taught all ages and levels. I use a variety of method books for piano instruction, depending on the student's personality, reading level and attention span. I encourage analysis, sight reading, composition, transposition, as part of learning the piano. I perform regularly myself and encourage students to attend concerts regularly. I use YouTube to demonstrate various techniques, styles of playing, interpretations of current and prior masters of the instrument. I do the same for composition students.

As a teacher my years of experience and study with a wide array of teachers has given me a unique perspective on the process of music making and how everyone can benefit from the act of music making. As a professional musician with a diverse background, I have years of performance and teaching experience to offer my students and to help them overcome any musical difficulties with ease.
Positions in professional orchestras I have held include Principal Bass with the Amedeus Operenensemble in Salzburg, Austria, Assistant Principal Bass with the Northern Symphony Orchestra (MN) and St. Peter's Chamber Orchestra (Redwood City, CA) as well as with the Boise Philharmonic. I am also an avid chamber musician, composer and improvisor, a founding member of the San Francisco Bass Quartet and the Argentine Tango group Tangonero. I have also worked as a session player at San Francisco's Hyde Street Studios and most recently collaborated with Third Eye Blind and Jherek Bischoff.

I've been singing, performing, songwriting, and studying voice for 17 years. I have an Associate of Arts degree in Music & Voice/Vocal Performance, and have studied at Musician's Institute and Berklee College of Music. I work with a wide range of vocal styles, with an emphasis on rock, Americana, blues, soul, country, folk, and pop, and I also play percussion and Autoharp.
