About Me

So you’ve mastered Guitar Hero and/or Rock Band and you’re thinking, “how hard can the real thing be?!?”

The answer is: as easy or challenging as you want it to be… That’s the beauty of the guitar and bass. Learning a few simple chords or patterns can quickly lead to extremely satisfying results, yet ask even the most accomplished players, and they’ll tell you they’re still learning…

My name is Brian. I've been a professional musician and educator for over 20 years teaching both guitar and bass. I've been fortunate enough to play with (and learned from) some of the finest musicians around, and I look forward to sharing that knowledge with you. My goal as a teacher is to help you get to where you want to be in the shortest amount of time possible.

Let me help you on your journey and let's uncover your inner musical genius!

Every student is unique. Preparing an 8 year old to be the next great guitar prodigy requires a completely different approach than helping a recent retiree finally fulfill his dream of getting that blues band together. As such, I don't have a set curriculum. My first job as a teacher is to find out what your goals are, and then develop a plan to get you there ASAP. Blues, Jazz, Rock, Funk, R&B, Metal, Country, Latin or all of the above - whatever style most appeals to you is what we will be focusing on while also learning proper technique, ear training, reading, improvisation, and the theory necessary to tie it all together. I believe the best way to learn music is to have fun with it - that's what keeps you engaged and coming back for more! I provide and nurturing and motivational environment to inspire and cultivate your musical growth.
You've got the dreams - let's make the reality!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will bring my guitar or bass (and amp) and I expect student to have the same.

*** Specialties ***
*Teachers marked as a Student Favorite have taught a minimum of 25 lessons and have received the highest feedback rating from students. As I've taught students from 5 years old to retirees (who refused to give their age!), I've found that every student is different and thus so is the approach in teaching them.
My goal is to first find out the students goals and build a curriculum around achieving that goal asap.

About Me

University educated composer, song writer, and instrumentalist.

With a lifetime of experience on the guitar, and years of progressive experience on the Drums, Piano, and Bass Guitar, I offer beginning-advanced instrumental instruction of all ages.

In addition to instrumental instruction, I offer a thorough, but fun, course in song-writing and composition for Singers and Instrumentalists alike.

Now available at the Murrieta classroom: Full service recording lessons. Learn the details of audio recording while creating your own songs for less than the cost of many studio rental rates.

Fall 2012 University of California - Riverside graduate in music with extensive focus on music theory, composition, and song writing.

My experience:

My first job was as an accompanist for my high school's music department. With a strong background already in music theory, it was here I crafted my sight-reading and analytical music abilities. This job allowed me to perform live for thousands of people as well as I accompanied the school as well as the other high school's in the district. Post high school, I spent several years working as an audio engineer for resorts in the area including: Legoland, Sea Life, and L'Auberge Del Mar. These opportunities gave me a chance to further increase my technical knowledge of music, focusing on both live events as well as recording technology. After this time, I was contacted by a former college professor of mine from MiraCosta College in Oceanside to fill the position of accompanist for his two Jazz Choirs. From this point forward I studied music within all genres and include Pop, Rock, Jazz, Country, and Classical styles within my repertoire and the music I teach.

In addition to teaching with TakeLessons, I teach Music within the Murrieta Valley School District and have recently been offered an interim position as an ensemble instructor at the University of California Riverside during the Fall school year. I look forward to continuing to work within the music education field and continuing to grow as a musician and educator as I do.

*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons should be a fun experience that results in the students enjoying playing their instrument while also building important musical skills, whether learning the fundamentals for the first time or fine-tuning a newly acquired skill as an already advanced player. Each lesson I teach will be based around the student's current ability, both on their instrument as well as their understanding of the instrument. It has always been my thought that students progress further and faster when they are having fun, and the best way to achieve this is by learning through playing pieces that students enjoy to play while simultaneously working on their technical proficiency on the instrument as well as knowledge of the theory behind what they are playing. When a student leaves a lesson after playing a song, I feel they will not only be able to play the song, but understand what they are playing as well which will then allow them to apply what they have learned to other songs.

For instrumental students looking to augment their playing ability and advance to the next level of musicianship, I also teach courses in music theory which can be taught through your instrument. For many people, music theory and written music seem the same. This can initially be as intimidating as attempting to learn a new language. However, with an approach that will allow you to apply it directly to your instrument, it can be a fun process that can propel you towards your musical goals.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Murrieta location: Full service DAW Studio (incl. Computer, Multitrack interface @ 24bit/96hz, on-board mixer) Blue Baby Bottle Studio Condenser Microphone, Keyboards & Digital Pianos, Acoustic/Electric Drumkits, hundreds of Guitars, Basses and other instruments available to record.

Riverside and San Bernardino locations: Guitars, Basses, Drumkit, 88-Key Digital Piano.

*** Specialties ***
Beginning methods and techniques that I teach are unspecialized, however once students reach a level of comfort on their choice of instrument, I will approach it from a style based on their personal interests in music along with augmenting their interests with others which will help them grow in terms of overall musicianship.

About Me

At the early age of twelve I began beginner guitar lessons through a privately owned guitar shop near my home in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. By fifteen I expanded my guitar know-how through lessons with virtuosic guitarist Trey Alexander. These lessons with Trey introduced me to playing blues, rock, jazz, and metal styles of guitar. Around seventeen years old I began classical guitar studies with Skip Redding and piano lessons with Michael Schmaldienst through Penn Manor High School. I also sang in the high school choir and played guitar in the jazz band. To prepare for musical studies in college I began advanced theory and composition lessons with Dr. Simon Andrews at the Pennsylvania Academy of Music. I decided to stay near home for college and I was admitted to Millersville University for a B.A. Music Performance degree with a concentration on classical guitar.

I continued to sing, play piano, write songs, learn drums, bass guitar, banjo, mandolin, and further my musical theory studies. At one point, I was in two local rock bands, singing in choir, assisting my guitar professor Marcia Englar with guitar ensemble, and working on my solo classical guitar repertoire. Diversity in music has always been important to me and I pride myself on knowing a wide range of guitar and other musical performance practices.

After I earned my undergrad in Music Performance from Millersville University I auditioned at the University of Redlands here in Redlands, CA. By August of 2012 I was packing my car with all of my guitars and hitting the road for Southern California. My experience with music at the University of Redlands has has been phenomenal. I take lessons with Stuart Green and Bob Bozonelos, assist undergrad students in guitar, music theory, and history, and sing in the University choir. I love where I live, I love music, and I want to share my knowledge and experience with the world.

My goal as a guitar instructor is to teach YOU what YOU want to learn. Whether you want to lean chords and play guitar at church or learn jazz tunes and play in a jazz band. I can teach electric guitar, acoustic guitar, but my classical guitar skill is very advanced. The more specific your musical needs the better! I also have great experience with kids and teaching beginners if the students desire with the instrument are not specific yet.

I am very much a laid back guy, but I believe in doing homework and CONSISTENT practice. This does NOT mean a demanding "six hours a day" practice routine but rather a very focused brief practice period 4-6 days a week. Every student is different and I want everyone to have fun and enjoy the best instrument in the world. If the student has fun and keeps focused I firmly believe in noticeable improvement almost immediately!

With respect to guitar I have multiple books and literature in my library students may use. These guitar books cover beginner to advanced techniques. When it comes to bass guitar, banjo, or drums I mostly teach off book but I am more than able to introduce literature on these instruments as well.

I live, breath, and think music all day everyday and it would be my utmost honor to share my musical skills with you!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Two classical guitars, one acoustic guitar, one electric guitar, one guitar amp, one electric bass, one electric bass amp, one ukulele, one mandolin, one banjo.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect the student to provide the instrument. I can provide everything else except for a drumset.

*** Specialties ***
Classical guitar, folk guitar, songwriting, music history.

About Me

Hey, I'm Michael! I'm 22 and I've been teaching modern music to students of every age and skill level since 2007. I've also been performing with all types of amazing musicians right here in the Inland Empire since I was 10 years old. I've gained valuable experience touring up & down the west coast in a variety of productions. Along the way I've been lucky enough to work alongside some of the most talented musicians, producers, promoters, songwriters, performers and teachers in the music industry today. Now, with a mastery of a wide variety of instruments and unparalleled experience performing in every type of musical act imaginable, it's my goal to pass on my knowledge to the next generation of modern musicians.

For your first lesson we will assess how much skill you already have on your instrument of choice. We'll discuss what types of bands & artists you already enjoy listening to and what type of musician you'd eventually like to become. Right from day one we are going to dive right in and start making music!

From there we will put together a custom tailored lesson plan that's as unique as you are. We will focus on what you will enjoy learning most and mix in some super fun and challenging exercises taken right out pop-culture's most exciting and famous tunes.

Students who learn the music they know and love are proven to learn faster, retain information longer and have more fun compared to students who attend "ordinary" music lessons which focus on book work and boring exercises through repetition. Custom lesson plans assure the best possible chance of success in the ever-changing modern music industry.

Students are required to have enough equipment to be able to successfully practice on their own... how else can they get better? However, for those who are just starting out or are not sure what to buy yet, I do offer consultations for students individual needs as part of their first lesson. Get custom recommendations from an industry pro about where to get the best deals on the best products.
