I love exchanging ideas through music, whether I'm the teacher or the student, or just playing with people. But helping others expand their playing is a special treat. I have 18 years experience as a performer, songwriter, and producer, and in diverse genres including jazz, rock, reggae, metal, hip-hop, electronic).

Education: UC Berkeley B.A. Physics, Music Minor. Current projects include The Illness, a San Francisco based hard rock band, El Reporte Illegal, a Latin Hip Hop band originally from Mexico City, and Chickenhead Johnson.

As a teacher my years of experience and study with a wide array of teachers has given me a unique perspective on the process of music making and how everyone can benefit from the act of music making. As a professional musician with a diverse background, I have years of performance and teaching experience to offer my students and to help them overcome any musical difficulties with ease.
Positions in professional orchestras I have held include Principal Bass with the Amedeus Operenensemble in Salzburg, Austria, Assistant Principal Bass with the Northern Symphony Orchestra (MN) and St. Peter's Chamber Orchestra (Redwood City, CA) as well as with the Boise Philharmonic. I am also an avid chamber musician, composer and improvisor, a founding member of the San Francisco Bass Quartet and the Argentine Tango group Tangonero. Born in Racine, WI but raised in Grand Rapids, MI, I received my first electric guitar during the summer I was 12 years old and took lessons the whole season. The following fall, I was playing with the junior high school jazz band. After about year of playing electric guitar, my parents bought me an acoustic guitar. Then, I learned how to finger-pick classically and I learned how to flat-pick to some bluegrass stomping music. I continued learning to play electric and acoustic guitar until I graduated from high school and then I moved to Durango, CO. I started playing with my first rock and roll band. After 2 years of living there, I moved back to MI because I missed my family. I started playing with a few musicians, but the only ones I knew were guitarists or drummers. I resorted to playing electric bass. I disliked playing the bass, because I thought it was boring.

Pacifica Piano Studio is a space devoted to the pursuit of virtuosity. All ages and ability levels are welcome to study here. Although every lesson is tailored to fit the needs of each individual, the concepts and principals needed to organize each practice session and master each performance are constantly reinforced. If you or your children have a desire to learn piano basics or perhaps embellish your current skills Pacifica Piano Studio is the place to be. Typically the curriculum will focus on mastering the skills needed to attain a Certificate of Merit issued by the Music Teachers Association of California. I have been playing with classical ensembles and rock bands since 2001. Even though I started on classical trombone and rock guitar, I have come to expand my repertoire to a variety of instruments and genres. During my time in college I performed with the University choir, orchestra, and band. I also have organized, composed and arranged for, and performed with a variety of bands in my home state of New Mexico, as well as Japan and the San Francisco Bay Area.

Since 2006 I have been an active teacher. This profession has taken me everywhere from working with classical guitar classes in New Mexico high schools to Elementary students in Japan to a variety of private students of various musical instruments and genres everywhere I've been. Hello, my name is Chris. I am currently a Jazz Studies major at San Jose State University. I began my musical journey at Dartmouth Middle School. I played saxophone, and was only mildly interested in music. I stayed in music in high school, but remained only mildly interested until my Sophomore year. I discovered the trumpet and began to listen to Louis Armstrong, and became obsessed with jazz and mastering the trumpet. In just 2 short years, I had studied enough trumpet to travel South America with the San Jose Youth Symphony Philharmonic Orchestra. After my South American tour, I decided to teach privately and share my talents with the world. I won a scholarship to San Jose State for music excellence in 2009, and joined the Spartan Marching Band.
